how does disonance work?

and could i apply it to guitar?

oh jeez...hmm. where to start.

research dissonance and dodecaphony on wikipedia.

chromatic scale is essential. use of dissonance within this is based upon the minor second, its inversion the major seventh, and the augmented fourth/diminished fifth.

Yeah, you should start building a dictionary of discords in your head. It's quite handy for dissonance. Lots of add(9-) and maj7 voicings.
