Um, as its own thing, no. As a poweramp for your POD/V-amp/Tonelab SE, i've heard it's great for that, and that's more its intended use...

I got one about 2-3 months ago. I must say I was pleasantly surprised for the price. It doesn't have a really high distortion Its just got sort of a Marshall overdriven chunky crunch. I like it because its not really sterile like most SS amps. It gets a good death(band not genre) tone but mostly I just use it as a poweramp for my GT-8 or a backup amp.

I couldnt see it as a main amp, ever. I mean it seems like a good option for a cheap, decent sounding power amp, but thats about it.

About 10000x better.
The Crate Powerblock is like a distortable single channel tube amp. Get a boost pedal for 50$ and you've got a screaming metal head for 250$ ( okay, its not a Framus Cobra or anything, but you can hardly beat its price ).

So, should I rather get this crate powerblock + cabinets instead of a marshall mg 100 HDFX head+cabinets?
Atm I have a boss DS 1 distortion pedal and the digitech death metal distortion pedal!

Powerblock + Avatar 4x12. Can't beat the price.

I plan on getting a 2x12 once I start gigging, that is IF I do.

Use the DS1 with the Powerblock, which will be many, many, MANY times better than the Marshall MG. Understand this early on : The Marshall MG is a shitty amplifer. The Marshall MG is a shitty amplifier. The Marshall MG is a shitty amplifier. The Marshall MG is a shitty amplifier. The Marshall MG is a shitty amplifier. The Marshall MG is a shitty amplifier. The Marshall MG is a shitty amplifier. The Marshall MG is a shitty amplifier. The Marshall MG is a shitty amplifier. And its corresponding cab is also shitty. Here's what you do if you're on a tight budget :
Buy the Powerblock. 200$.
Buy a Legion by Madison 4x12. About 250$.
For under 500$, you've got what is in practice a single-channel tube amp ( its not tube at all, in reality. But its sound behaves disturbingly like one ) that you CAN get a very good sound out of.

Well the samples on MF sound decent...but try it out yourself. If it doesnt fit you, dont buy it.
Honestly before buying ANY amp i'd recommend THOROUGHLY THOROUGHLY THOROUGHLY researching your options. There are a lot of sleepers out there...
