1960A

Just curious does anyone know the specs on this amp? Woods, Speakers, or anything else that makes it so popular? Thanks in advance for any info you have.

www.google.com for the specs and everything else.

it's popular because it was the first mass produced 4x12' that was just by most rock bands back in the day. And it sounds great too, even these days I prefer my 1960B to an Engl 4x12 with v30's or v60's. I've heard them next to each other through my powerball and a blackmore, the engl cab just sounds less lively. Deep but it just doesn't quite cut it IMO.

They're also good value for money, there's heaps around used because there's just so damn many of them around. Guess that's why they're a populair choice for guitarist too, they're easily available used, for good prices.

I've noticed alot of people are saying that it sounds much better with Vintage 30's installed. How does this affect the tone?

Well it'll sound more like a v30 equipped cabinet just listen to a stock 1960 and a v30 equipped cab, like a mesa boogie cab. they have more 'mid-honk'

However, it depends on the cabs too. the mesa v30's are very good examples. the engl v30 cabs don't do the v30 justice IMO. they sound too undefined, they have great lows but that's about it. my 1960 sounds much more clear too. the engl v30xxl is a different world though. Same goes for Diezel v30's and the Bogner cabs, those are good cabs with v30's.

Any clue what a good wood would be to make a cab out of that would go well with V30s?
