I'm thinking that if places were repeated so it went a, b, c, b, a it might round it off. It keeps the end from just being the end abruptly. It's not too bad, but like you said it's from a age time frame when standing on the soapbox declaring the rights and wrongs of the world is popular. Been there, done that.
