Good topic GD, I'm also interested in doing something around music.
Are there any courses which do Music Production for a Bachelors Degree?

I've wanting to do the same thing, as next year will be my senior year of high-school. I was looking at Berklee, and Hollywood Musicians Institute that has a good guitar program (or so I've heard from people). Someone was telling me like Univ. of Indiana is good for music or something, but I dunno I'm still undecided. I have to wait for all my academic shit to pass through first.

I go to the University of North Texas. Other good Texas universities that have good music programs are: University of Houston, Rice University (private), Texas Tech, and Baylor (private).
Indiana is as good as UNT, but I think UNt has the better college of music.
arvina, I'm sure most colleges use steinway, but yeah you're right they're the leading one, UNT uses 'em too.
Curtis Instutute of Music is the absolute best from what I've heard.
Depending on what instrument you're going to do also depends on the college. Here at UNT, we have Jeff Bradetich(bass), Julia Bushkova(violin), conductor(violin soloist) Anshel Brusilow, and conductor Eugene Corporon(haha, who conducts the King of Thailand's jazz group.... )
If you go to Indiana, the only famous person I know from there is the principle bassist of the Boston Sym, Ed Barker.
This is what I'm majoring in right now.... http://www.unt.edu/pais/insert/ugnst.htm

the thing about bereklee is affording it and affording to live in boston, its impossible to do without financial aid and the school costs alot.
i took drum lessons from a bereklee grad he was around 35 when i was taking lessons and still lived with his parents making fucking chump change as a teacher, so i suggest if you are thinking of going to really think about it,bereklee makes sense as a music school in terms of wanting to be a proffessional studio musician or a proffessional classical musician and it has a bunch of other stuff thats more pertinant to mainstraim music industry stuff. so if your really into making.you know, television commercial music or being part of a outfit that does movie soundtracks, a mercenary for hire under a conglomerate like time warner, a guy who records big money bands or the guy to protools the next big boy band bereklee is for you
a thing i have to tell you tho that studying anything there is about the same as studying psychology anywhere in the US, there is too many people for just about every field of study, and alot of people who go end up in the sticks giving lessons at guitar center after incurring over 50,000$$ worth of education,so its a gamble. dont take this post as a negative to dissuade you i just know people from bereklee and been to their campus many times and looked at all thier stuff. its all industry orientated and is ripe with ego and seems like a very competitive enviroment, to me. im actually thinking about taking lessons from another bereklee grad here in RI becoz the guy actually has a resume of bands and projects and has actual got out on the road and seems to be skilled and has proffessional experience, but then again i dont like the music on his website<he filled in on drums for david bowie and a bunch of gone nowhere post grunge acts> hes a mercenary studio musician
another thing i want to ad is this, from living around boston for years ive yet to see a bereklee band ever play anywhere, metal bands and the bands form labels i know of in boston arent bereklee grads, thats just wierd and is very telling coz the music scene i know in boston worth a damn is Umass and mass art students, bereklee contributes zero, its just people following the industry in NY or LA hoping one day to fill in bass guitar for john cougar melloncamp or some shit, the classical music aspect of it is the only redeeming factor in my opinion coz the the boston symphomy is suppose to kick ass and has a high standing reputation, im sorry this post seems negative but studying music is like study any other art, it can become a big fucking exspensive waste of time, so think about it wiegh all other options of things to study in a college that may be more practical.

The Guys from Dream Theater all went to Berklee. My guitar teacher also went there. His name is Boby Koelble, he used to play in Death. Amazing fucking guitar player, but I doubt that he's making any serious cash. He's also got a band, they play a mix of reggae, latin, metal, and a bunch of other shit. Great band, they're very popular on the local scene, but I doubt they'll ever really make it big.
So, yeah, going to Berklee will hardly result in making any cash whatsoever, let alone serious cash. Unless, of course, Jon Petrucci were to meet an unfortunate accident, then you might have some hope.

I only really know of HS's but the most prestigious ones in the US are Interlochen in Michigan and Idyllwild in California.
