meh nothingface, don't like them at all.
most original metal band, good one, I guess in real metal Obituary, they are original in their style, not too technical but no-one ever copied them exactly, they allways have a cool groove in their songs which is why they're one of my favorite bands of all time.

For most original bands i would have to go with Haggard and Artefact, it's pretty hard to explain how they are so original in their sound. You have to hear them to understand where i am coming from.

You must be kidding they have way too
many Celtic Frost influences to be considered original!
I'm not saying that they are not good but they are
certainly not original.
Haggard is quite original. Also Thorns , Celtic Frost ,
Dodheimsgard

they may have other influences, but I do think they are original in their own genre, they're not too technical, more on the simple side with grooving riffs and drumwork, their style hasn't been copied often, well bands tried, but nobody comes close IMO, they just have a whole copyright around their style or something.
either you like them or don't, but I do think they're pretty original.
ok, Nile is way more original, Haggard too, but like I said, I had a brain fart.

well, yeah. they're not gothic, they're not power, they're not thrash, they're not death, they're not doom, they're not black, they're not grind.
what's left? i mean, opera style vocals with metal tunes on the background. some call it symphonic metal and i've never heard any bands like them, especially in the Secret of the Runes album.
there might be more bands like them, but i don't know any.

Death in a lot of ways, became original after the first few albums. I don't know a single band that's really similar to them.
Gorguts were quite original and experimental too.
And let's say... Cynic, for the strange (and ugly IMO) synth voice and the riffs, still more technical than a lot of the stuff that is made today.

and add Manowar as well.
to quote the BNR site:
"It's amazing that, after all this time, Manowar still has a sound that really isn't like anyone else, highlighted by Eric Adam's excellent vocals and a pounding rhythm section led by bassist (and chief songwriter) Joey DeMaio."

I agree about Gorguts and Death
I'd also like to add Watchtower

Hm, yeah I guess you do have a point there, I saw them live once and I didn't think they where any good, they looked mostly gothic to me but the music wasn't all that gothic I guess. their old work was more deathmetal like, but the newer stuff like ''Lepacca kliffoth', 'Theli', 'Vovin', 'Deggial' en 'Secret of the ruins' is just way different.
