I get this mental picture of Jezus trying Ran guitars for the first time. He chunks out some heavy riff and says, "Holy sweet baby ME, this is a great guitar"

Hey Def, I was just wondering, have you ever had a custom guitar made for you before?

for me? no man, no way. I don't think I'm such a good guitarist that I really need one, but I can't find any guitar that exactly suits my needs. I had that with amps for a long time, but well when I found the Engl... haven't ever had something like that with guitars, some came close, but it was allways 'no dice'
I've progressed a lot in my playing the last 3 years though, I've been playing a lot and bands really create an opportunity to learn a lot and be more motivated. I can play a lot of technical metal stuff and melodic stuff, I love technical riffs and fast stuff, but I'm not much of a solo guy. I can't pull them off if I want, but I'de rather play a really impressive technical riff then a lame solo. I guess its because I'm more of a hardcore guitarist then a metal guitarist, it's where my roots are you know?
I heard about your jackson man, what specs did it have and stuff?

Well, I think you are going to be happy with this guitar because I don't think Dariusz has even taken this long to make a guitar for someone, not to mention the unknown cost. I have been keeping in touch with Dariusz myself lately and he is set to make your guitar the pride of Ran gutars for 2005. I envy you Def. You said something to Dariusz to inspire him. That's a great thing to do to guitar builders because they will always remember you.
About your guitar playing. I see you as a player that will learn what he must and finds useable. I to have root in hardcore music, but love leads when I have the chance to show off. I'm guessing that your Ran is made for heavy riffs without any trem involved... Hardcore sustain basically!
That brings me to my Jackson KV-1. The guitar didn't have a trem and was made for tone. It had the following specs:
Jackson KV-1
Neck thru
Maple neck
Poplar body
24 fret, 6100 jumbo size, ebony fretboard, MOP sharkfin inlays and MOP jackson logo, 25 1/2" scale
1 11/16" graphite nut
LSR tuners
White binding on the fretboard and headstock
Black pearl finish on body( beveled edges on the body ), neck, and headstock
SD JB4 on the bridge
SD Jazz on neck
Kahler 3300 fixed brdge
2 vol, 1 tone, 3 way switch
Dunlop flush mount straplocks
Basically the same thing that Dave Mustaine used but with 6100 jumbo fretwire. I loved that guitar but it was very front heavy. If you let go of the neck it would take off to the ground. I wished I know where it was today.

Hey, I got the Stephen Carpenter ESP (not LTD) and its got the Seymour Duncan SH-4 (bridge), ESP LH-200(Middle) & SS-120(Neck). I'm not new to pickups...but what do you think an EMg 81 in the bridge, EMG 60 in the Middle, and a EMG SA in the neck would do for me......the duncan is nice but I know how much bite those EMG's have...cus I got the 7-81 in my seven string....

I wouldn't know. The thing was near perfect when it left me
I wouldn't get Poplar again though. I like Mohogany much better with, *gasp*
EMG's. I got Poplar and SD's cause I thought that if Dave used that then it must be great... well MY taste turns out actually different.

Yeh, poplar has about the same tonal "qualities" as plywood..

Or sun bleached crate wood.
FYI, Poplar wood sucks for guitars.

Wow, did he tell you about that? that's really cool to hear, I told him it was finally a chance to combine all the guitars I owned and wanted AND liked. it's like a dream come true, so thats what it should look like too
I gave Dariusz some space to do some things himself with the design (like the letters on the 12th fret, I told him to come up with something lol, I bet he'll come up with something!) same goes for signatures, I asked to put signatures somewhere of all the poeple that worked on my guitar. It's probably going to be somewhere on the case, since the guitar is really darkblue and theres hardly any space for 3/4 signatures at the back of a dinky headstock.
I know its going to look cool, though it's more important how it plays, but I'm pretty confident in that after hearing Ran stories, I though I couldn't go wrong there, so I took up the chance. It's really cool that Dariusz will put in some extra effort, he said it would be a cool project! I might even see my Ran on those photo pages and shit!
Ah, on another note, two of my friends, our other guitarist and another guy I know, are also interested in buying a Ran. they're allmost certain but they are waiting to see/play mine first. which is a good idea, ofcourse. One of them is allready in touch with Dariusz, see how his advertising works? it's all personal pass-thru traffic, and thats the best kinda advertising you can have!

Aah Ramón! Welcome to metaltabs!
there's only one rule! 'Don't be a cunt'
Steffan (Kwint...) is allready in touch with Dariusz, did you know about that?
I forgot to mention you got it for 1400 in the end, americans can only dream of such a deal on Engl gear since it's absolutely rare over there...
If you want to read on about Ran guitars, just view through the thread an search for SoulInsane's posts, he was the first one to get a Ran over here, and the first customer in the USA.

Ive kept up with this thread since its creation and after reading about it and all the praise (especially Soulinsane's adventure), I have come to the conclusion that next year, or as soon as I get more funds, I will be ordering my very own custom Ran guitar .
This thread has been an invaluable resource and I want to thank everyone again.

When are you going to get your Ran H8? Also, Fritz said he doesn't like where the input jack is at under the lower wing. I don't know if you talked with Dariusz about where to put the jack on yours, but you might want to ask him about it if you want it somewhere else and still have time to change it.

In the Jackson RR and KV 1's it's on the bottom side of the upper wing just under the strap button. On the other jackson RR models I think its on the bottom side of the lower wing just like Fritz's. I got mine on the top side of the lower wing, just like most other V's. I hope that all makes sense.

Thanks for that pic. That really clears things up in my mind now. I was wrong in my last post about his jack being on the bottom side of the lower wing. It's on the top part of the wing now isn't it. Thats where I got mine too and angled jacks work great on it too. I like it that way myself.

Hello Ran guitar friends!!
I'm new here but I'm a friend of 'Def'. He pulled me in the world 'Ran guitars', and I''m already certain to order one this year!
I've heard great stories about Ran guitars, and it's even better he works in Europe
Here are my specs

I'n choosing for the S serie body of ibanez, because it's so slim en not heavy, really love that body. The twilight blue finish is amazing. The first time is saw this color, I fell in love with it, and made a appointment with myself, my next guitar will be in that color http://www.unearth.tv/photo/37.jpg
The headshape will be from esp ltd mh1000, just like it very much. But how does Dariusz get al that information? About body shapes and stuff, does he get measurements or something, how does he work?
greetings from Rhenen, The Netherlands

Cool! The S body with 24 frets will be neat, and ESP headstocks kickass!
As for your question, im sure he has measurments of the headstocks and bodies, and if he dosent he most likely either contacts the maker or takes a trip to the guitar shop and gets the measurements off ther exact guitar.
Its pretty easy to come across such things, if a retard like me can find out that info im sure a luthier can.

Hey Quinten!
welcome on metaltabs man, don't forget to read up on everything posted here in the thread! I think that'll be a fucking ace guitar right there, I can imagine the S body, neckthru and EMG's working really well all together!
he gets his measurements from somewhere... he could make a stagemaster body too and thats even more complicated, I think. He can get the dimensions of the internet I reckon but I'm sure he can copy it off pictures too for a fair bit. Luthiers know their stuff and from experience I can tell that Dariusz definetly knows his stuff!

Hey Quinten, about your question about the shapes and mesurments(SP?) ussually custom guitar places like ran have stencils of a guitar shape, like ive seen places sell exact outlines of almost every guitar model and headstock shape ever, they just place it up on a block of wood, mahogony in your case, and route it out. pretty simple.

I've heard you can give your guitar a name, that sounds great, stupid Def didn't want to tell me about his name
I thing I'll put my initials or something, like that part above the nut (don't know the name in english).
Somebody suggestions?
greetz,
Mr. Kwint

Yea fo sho, Im gonna sell my shitty glx212 and buy a 1x12 roland cube cause they sound better and are cheaper, then save up for a pearl export and some cymbols cause i wanna start drummin, then ill prolly buy another ran, if i like how this RR turns out ill prolly get another RR ran with a Tunomatic stop tail bridge or whatever its called, and locking tuners and my guitar collection will be complete (but ill prolly get more rans after that just cause they own, (like a custom invader)

if i were to get a ran guitar id probly end up getting the RR3 model, but id have to change the neck so its 24 frets, and i need bigger frets. that way its not completely expensive, cuz im a poor shmo.

For Ran, most likely.. but their's no way Jackson or B.C. Rich could get a guitar done that quick.
And since the original ran guitar thread will now be lost since it isent sticky

Atif said he was going to make it a sticky, but only went through and edited all the post. Wheres the Ran sticky? What happened?
Anyway, for anyone new here wanting to know more about Ran guitars or just see lots of good pictures make sure you read the last ( very edited ) Ran guitar thread, which BLS was just kind enough to provide a link to for your convenience.

Uh, no. There's enough fucking stickies in this section alone. If i keep putting up someone's favorite thread as a sticky we'll have a whole first page of stickies.

The last Ran guitar thread has over 11,000 veiw hits and is gaining about 200 a day now. Thats more veiws than any other thread on metaltabs and growing. Many poeple, including non-members, use this forum to learn more about Ran guitars as we are THE definitive source of information about them. I think that might qualify for the title of sticky. The problem is that there are 4 threads about Ran as of right now and it would be crazy to make them all stickies. 2 of those were strarted by guitar zone mods and the post counts are raising fast in this one. I guess it's best if we just start another Ran thread at 300 post so the server doesnt freak out though, so skip the sticky ideal.

I feel that a good guitar is what is needed to learn advanced guitar. You need a guitar that will respond properly and sound the way a guitar is suppose to sound and feel like. It helps you to focus in on yourself instead of fighting with the guitar to do what you need it to. If you live to be 80 years old you will still be learning something new on guitar. Thats what makes it fun. There are no limits on guitar. Even a master guitar player will tell you they don't feel they know half of what other poeple give them credit for. Those dudes that get to a point and feel they know all there is and stick it in poeples faces are just lieing to themselfves and will never get any better.

Exactly what I was thinking Soulinsane! I have my Bronze Warlock now, the frets arent very good, not intonated, the pickups arent the best and the action is kinda fvked, but anyways, with a Ran I thought I might be more inspired to learn, to improve and practice. With the Warlock i try but its like an untamed animal that doesnt do what I want it to do, get my point?

Yes. You will never know how a good guitar is suppose to play, sound, and feel if all you use is junk forever. You will not get better if your guitar isn't a well made. It's a tool and you need it to work perfect without slowing you down.

I'm beginning to give in....I think I want a ran too. I'd love a BC, but they are being very difficult to work with....and too much cost right now too. You think ran could make me one with the Beast headstock? Or should I try moser?

Ever seen how a Fender has a rounded fretboard end toward the body of the guitar? Thats the difference. Squared is more B.C. Rich, Jackson, Ibanez, metalish looking.
Sounds like just a bad ass guitar but why the maple non-flame top if the whole thing will be blood red? Is it for tone perposes? The maple in the Neck should give enough top end bite. Mine has a Maple neck and Mohogany body wings and it's just perfect.

I know what you mean. Once you play one of the custom shop Rans you will never want to pay to play another custom shop guitar again. Our kids will be telling their freinds, "My dad has a custom shop Ran."
Freind, "WHOO, Can you sneek it out of the house?"
Your kid, "You must be out of your mind! Dad sleeps next to it like it was his rifle back in Iraq."

I heard on another site that since 87' Dariusz has been making guitars on and off, but didn't start getting lots of customers until he had a Ran guitar website. This year alone has been crazy for him.

Thats true. Dariusz has send me many thanks, but that man is the one doing all the work and I just love guitars. If I can help someone get a Ran guitar then I need to do no more because after they get it then they to will be believers like me. Ran is the best Guitar company to date.
I looked for a year to find a guitar company that would make my Soulinsane custom for less than $3000 after I got back from Afganistan. I found Ran guitars and decided to take a risk on them. Shortly after I found Metaltabs and fell in love with this place. After I joined I found that there was a Ran guitar thread and started posting about them. Now I seem to have started some revolution. The guitars speak for themselfves, but I think it just took one dude, me, to get one and make sure the metaphoric waters were safe.
I was scared as hell when I first ordered because I didn't know what the hell was going to happen.

Well, with the ideal of a Maple top on the body and binding on both sides of the body, I would say 1200-1300 Euro max. I could be wrong, but I do know that it will not cost more than $1600 USD total with US Customs Office charges included for a custom made guitar from Poland.
Edit: Mine all together with the parts cost I sent Ran for installation still cost me less than $1600 USD with shpping and US Customs.
I had a Kagler 2300 bridge put on my Ran, but I bought it seperate and mailed it to Dariusz.

no idea. not too many I hope, don't want them to become to populair now do we
as long as this thread is in use it won't go down, don't worry.
the banner thing might be cool for Dariusz, hope Nomad can arrange something, Dariusz said metaltabs is the shit though!
I'm glad I found out about Ran because I've been spending about a year trying to find the guitar that's right for me. just couldn't find it, now I mixed all my favorite guitars into one with unique looks too! it's going to kick serious ass!!
can't wait till march! I have the right amp to use it with too
