My action wasn't perfect for me until I adjusted it for myself.

My guitar came with slightly bent neck, so just a little turn of the trussrod and the action was perfect. Btw...the flight case is not so good what comes with the guitar - the end of the case where the body lays should be stuffed that the guitar wouldn't move inside. Have to make the mold cavity myself

The guitar is ready for completing, so we should ship it on September, 24.

If you order a Ran, do'nt you have to wait a year to get it?

when I ordered they told me "8 months minimum". now its finished and it has been a year pretty exactly, yes.

they seem to be really busy with orders. the guitar would have been finished earlier, but they also have quite a big backdrop in the painting-area. that was the longest wait-time as far as I get it

it arrived yesterday. spent the whole afternoon with it and also took it to band rehearsal in the evening. what can i say? its just great

I really get what everybody has with mahogany-bodies now, it REALLY sounds great. you know I'm a "crunch" guy normally who loves that Meshuggah-kinda sound but I also want some warmth and this axe totally does it! both!
it has all the agressive bite and attack but has a smooth, singing voice at the same time. much fuller sound then my RG for example. it also sounds better unpluged. louder, warmer, more natural and responsive. PUs (X2N7 and AN7) were a great choice! on an amp it bites, growls and sings, it cuts through the mix better than my 7620, too. it improved my sound at band-rehearsal, too
it even makes my old little Marshall G30RCD combo sound much better (best home-practice-sound I ever had without the Powerball)

love the neck, too! its thin and fast, but not TOO thin. frets are a bit taller than on my RG and smoother of course (havent been used so far, right?), it plays real great. I guess the 26.5"-scale helps a bit here, too. bends feel quite a bit smoother and that makes them sound better, too. also I can now tap better on the highest frets cause there is this tiny bit of extra space between frets

from all I can tell its really well made. found no flaws at all so far. great woodwork, painting and all

overall I can say she really looks, feels, sounds AND plays quite a bit better than all other guitars I own!

another great thing is that I now finally have 2 7-strings so I always have a backup without having to ask my friend (who plays in a different band) if he can borrow me one of his 2

did I mention that I love it? well, I do!

well, to be fair I think I should list the few negative things I noticed, too:

1. I had ordered it with PU-rings and it came with direct mounted PUs instead. actually I prefer those nowadays so this is no problem at all for me, but...

2. one of the switches was supposed to be a 3-way, switching the neck-PU series/split/parallel. its a 2-way switching series/split as far as I can hear. those are the 2 options that were most important to me and I dont think I'll use the feature very often, so its ok, but still...

3. a setup would have been nice!!! well ok, I can do that myself, and its not such a big deal on a guitar that is as well made as this one, but I think a new guitar SHOULD come with a setup (maybe with slackened strings for the transport but still set up)!

I also wrote all that in a mail I sent Dariusz yesterday, gonna see what his answer is

but anyways: I totally love this axe!

and now, the part you have all been waiting for: PICTURES
here are the pics that Dariusz sent me last week cause I havent made pics of my own yet and these are pretty cool and show what a beauty she is:

Looks great man, congrats

Funnily enough, i had the opposite pickup ring problem with my Ran- i ordered it without, but they put them on! And originally i'd asked for 3way toggles too, but he said his supplier didn't have any in stock, so i went with standard on/offs, no biggie really.

It's all about the 7 string guitars!

got an answer from Dariusz. he said they were unable to get PU-rings for 7-string PUs so the just mounted them direct. like I said earlier I'm fine with it, but they could have told me

about the switch for the different neck-PU configs: he says that option wouldnt be possible, so they used a 2-way switch and a push/pull-pot. the funny part is: I didnt even notice the pot was a push/pull before I read that mail LOL

so its pretty much all fine now, I just need to fine-adjust intonation. will use it for a first gig this saturday

Yeah, for Decapitated and Crionics. One of the reasons to choose Ran was "decapitated play ran", and a year ago i couldn't imagine that 1) they will come to lithuania 2) we'll be opening for them 3) i'll have a ran too

I think my ran is a little envious of yours hexer. Just give it time, it only sounds better and better.

EDIT: I overlooked that your guitar is a 26.5" scale. How is that in comparison to a 25.5 for ya? I've played my friends schecter...but it was kinda poo because of the string spacing.

hehe

well, the additional 1" isnt much of a difference when fretting so it doesnt really make things more difficult to do in my opinion. I find it easier to tap on really high frets now cause there is this tiny bit of extra space between frets so its easier to hit the notes right (so they dont go dead). I also love the guitars very clear sound and I think the slightly extended scale at least plays a part in that, too
hmmm, what else...? well, I like it and I dont feel much of a difference to 25.5, so...
if you have any more specific questions about it, just let me know

I was gonna say, if you have another guitar, try out the same tuning (however low you tune) and just compare.

Ok, it arrived a few hours ago. After an hour of fucking with floyd (i'm tuning a step lower) i raised the volume a bit...
The guitar is the best i've ever played. The sound is so clean that you can't make any mistakes at all. Sustain lasts forever, and even when playing on first three frets of the 7A string every note is easy to hear and understand.
I can die in peace now.
Praise Ran (although 13 months of waiting are too long still :P )

I have decided that I definately wan't another Ran, bjut i'm going to wait till i've got laods of money so I can order one for me and one for my teacher which i've been meaning to do for a year now...

I might order two for myself one hardtail and one with a floyd allready got a few designs one being pretty simple the other having glow in the dark graphics pickups and knobs and logo....

Should turn out pretty cool for all three...

My order/s shall be going out at the end of January, and February.

Mines going to be a Cruiser witha reverse headstock I havent decided completely on specs other than it will have two duncans(Custom Custom TB14 is it? and jazz) and an OFR and maple fretboard, I'm not sure weather to go neck through or all access.

The first or second Ran will be a Tonally versatile hardtail vision with hivision psuedo strat headstock for my guitar teacher...

I don't think I will be able to wait for either of them...

I do have parts coming to make a guitar in the mean time...

I didnt like the cruiser at first but it's grown on me and I think the forearm contour is kick ass, so i'm going to be very very tight over the next few weeks...

Tomorrow I shall send Big D an email for quotes and hopefulyl get thigns moving toward getting more rans!!!

do you think this would look cool? Either an RR or a king V, with a reverse B.C. Rich 6-on a side style headstock. And for a paintjob I want like a jackson crimson swirl but black and white......does that paintjob sound cool. Or do you think it would come out odd.

Ran guitars setup

Hi guys,

A complaint about RAN guitars setup!
When you wait one year to get your custom wings, i think
they could spend more time on their guitars setup.
Mine got action too high and need several adjsutments to
play as it had to.
Ok RAN guitars finish is very well done... but it is as if they don't
have the time to do a good setup. I think they need to really
improve this step if they want to reach the quality of Moser guitars
(for instance).

This wasn't only for mine, several guys got the same problem
with theirs...

If its a new guitar your gonna haveto set it up anyways, esp if its travelling countrys. Mine were both fine though.

It's not always true: with high quality guitars, you only need light adjustments
1 or 2 years after you got it.
Here with RAN, complaints are from the day you receive it...

By experience, i can assure that even if the guitar travelled from the US to France, if it's well setup in the factory, you don't need to adjust when it
arrives. This was true for guys i know who bought Moser or ESP custom shop
guitars.

Anyway, i'm really satisfied with my RAN, this is a brutal personal axe, very
reliable.
It's a great pity that, in some cases, their setups leave a lot to be desired...

unfortunately I have to agree with that. when my RAN arrived it was not set up at all. the trem it seemed was still in factory state, no intonation-adjustment or anything. I did the setup myself (after all on a guitar of this quality its easier than on a cheaper axe) and now its all fine, but still I think they could have done a setup before sending it (slackened the strings for the transport maybe, but...)

Setup is something that differs from player to player; some like it high, whilst others like a really low action. Unless you specifically said that you wanted it setup in a certain way, there isn't really an issue. The guitar will still be bedding down too, so you'll have to make little changes to it for a while. Guitars also adjust with temperature, so there will be a change from where it was shipped in Poland, to where you are.

The techs I use will generally give every guitar that comes through their workshop the same optimum setup assuming it's not broken, warped or the hardware limits it in some way. They get lots of people saying "My guitar teacher says the action is too high" and they check it and it isn't.

Some people like guitars set up badly!

Also, I'd like the strings to be completely slackened off when shipping. When I buy a guitar, I generally expect to have to set it up properly.

Mine wasn't set up as well, i fine-tuned it myself, but i suck at this, so i think it could play better than it it is now.
I need a good setup manual. For complete idiots.

Both of mine came in intonated and nearly in tune...

I had to retune the vision and restring the RR as a string snapped...

Both had fairly low action I could understand some liking really low action i've got mine set up high for shred standards...

Reverse truss rod?

Hi all,

I've just adjusted the truss rod on my custom Ran to straigthen the neck,
and i was surprised.

Usually, on all other guitars brands i've owned, turning the key in a
clockwise direction will tighten the truss rod, which applies a downwards
force on the neck and turning the key in a counterclockwise direction will
loosen the truss rod, allowing the string tension to pull the neck upwards.

But, on my Ran, It seemed that turning it counterclockwise straighten
the neck whereas on all my other brands guitars, it’s the opposite.
Moreover, the truss rod was very easy to turn and seemed to move.

Has someone noticed the same things on its custom RAN?

I thought it was opposite on mine to, but I wrote it off as me being a dumb ass at first. It was easy to adjust but didn't "move around" any. As long as the neck relief stays good that is what matters.

ok thanx. So it's a real trap: if you don't know it... you can really damage

I had to adjust the RR a year or so ago when i switched to 10-52's it needed doing anyway's but the relief is still ok as is the vision which is nearly a year old...

anyways I forgot to add that I can't remember if it's reverse of the normal turns, infact I may have an email from big telling me it was I adjusted it in small turns then went the other way till it was right...

Yes i agree! But unfortunately, i'm sure that a lot of guys bought a custom
guitar without knowing anything about a good setup...
Moreover, in my opinion, a good guitar player should know a lot about
it, and should be able to setup its instruments by its own means (after a few
attempts on cheap axes)...

I could not agree more on this one. With few cheap axes you'll learn the basics how the relief and the bridge is set Here's few really good sites for adjusting the neck and the bridge (FR):
