Dude, this sounds stupid, but I never really thought about it. What do they mean by fret size like extra jumbo? Do they mean the size of the metal frets, or the size of the space between the frets?

haha the size of the actuall frets, if you changed the space between them that would fuck the innotation and notes up.

Yeah, Iīve heard people saying that. But I donīt know īcause I donīt really know what fret size Iīm used to. Donīt know what the BC Rich KKV got and Iīm not really sure what my other guitars had. I had a Neck Thru NJ Warlock for a while, a Neck Thru Jackson King for a year or 2, a NJ KKV Tribe, they all felt great. So does my Ran. Iīm thinking of my third guitar that I gonna order, if I gonna go with medium or jumbo... Medium seems to work but jumbo might be even better?? I gonna ask on the BC Rich forum if anyone knows if the BC Rich KKV got jumbo frets or not...

Well some peoples definition of jumbo and medium and all that are differant.
I would ask what the exact fret size is, Dunlop 6100 fret wire is extra jumbo i think, just ask what jackson considers jumbo (what # fret wire it is) then tell dariuzs to use that size fret wire or the closest to it.

Dear Jesse,
the Vixen guitar in your specification costs 1680 euros /a Kahler 2300 bridge included/.
Best regards
Dariusz Kuczynski
That's about $2,106.02 USD according to XE.com. Not too bad considering my options on it.

god k13m............ i just splooged.
Those specs are soooo sexy. I love quilted maple, and the burst affect would be sweet with that beautiful black see through. That no paint satin wood one is also very very badass. Either one would be so awesome.

i think its gonna be the satin wood one, cuz i think the black seethru is gonna be a lot of money, i thinkthat one wil be around 1700 or sumtin :P but thats just my guess, but looking at the price that rat13 had to pay i think mine wil be even more.
+ i have to egt a backup axe for in the mean while, i think just a cheap 200euro axe, i still have my sd pickups from my jackson wr1 so, might aswell use those

Glad someone sees what I mean. I didn't mean to be a dick to the other guy...I just don't see the point in saying I should get something else because he doesn't like the shape of mine.

DAMN, i cant make up my mind bout 1 thing, pickups.
emg 81 /85
or passives, i dunno, i actualy want some nice cleans, and i read that the dimarcio x2n, i rilli high output, and just as good on harmonics as a 81, so i might get that.
damn, decisions decisions

id go with the 81/85 because theyre reliable and i kind of like their cold cleans. get a junky guitar and have passives in that one , if your main playing is gonna be in metal

yeah sounds like a good idea to me rilli
ive never played or heard the x2n, only passives ive played are sd invader and fullshred, and dimarcio tonezone and pafpro.
the sd were muddy, and the dimarcios didnt have enough output for my preference.
i did played 81 and 85 in my wr1, and i kinda liked those so
ill guess ill stick with that.
damn time goes slow while waiting, (i just sended the email a few hours ago maybe im inpatience ) well i know i am

What about 81/60's?
Those are supposed to produce a nicer clean than the 85 isnt it? and you would still have the grunt of the 81 at the bridge.
I think if i get emg's ill get the 81/60 setup

ive never played a 60, and im not gonna play clean a lot, think iof it as sleep terror, or cryptopsy, sumtimnes there a few little clean parts, but 90% of it is gonna be distorted.
i did playn the 81 85 combo, wich csounded pretty good to me.
but im stil thinking bout a X2N and some high outtput neck passive pu.
im still waiting for the prices so

It's nice to know that Ran is using Kahler now. They will make the cost jump up on Rans a bit but are worth every penny imo. The one with steel rollers and cam ( 2300 ) have a sharp bright attack while the one with brass parts 2330 ) has a darker smooth attack. The combo ( 2320, I think ) is the one that slayer uses and has steel rollers with a brass cam. Kinda a mixer of both tones, but the one draw back of steel rollers for me is corrosion. Brass doesn't rust so that is why I like them better. The steel rollers are not paint coated for better tone so they require more work to prevent locking up and rusting.

isnt the 2315 the one slayer uses??
from the site:
The KahlerŪ 2315 Special features a 360HH Brass cam and 303 stainless Steel rollers for that unique heavy edged sound sound of Slayer. Chrome model comes in 3 hole cam only.

the ran plan got changed (mostlikely)
my dad knows a guitarbuilder in holland, a good one, he builds guitars for a shitload of famous dutch bands, and eh can build me a guitar, like i want it aswell, thats
warrior, neckthru, maple neck, alder, body, kahler2315 trem, sd pickups, neck and headstock binding, 1 volume,5way switch. for 1300
also, its gonna take him bout 3 or 4 months to finish it.

1300 euros (do note that thats without a finish, im getting the whole thing oiled)
another note, he has a 2 year waiting line, but since my dad knows him rilli weel, he is makign an exeption (he builded 4 or 5 custom guitars for my dad before)
i have a little kahler question though.
can i just raise and lower the thing, like a floyd, to change the action??
how does it work, ive never seen a kahler for real, but everyone tells me its the best, even the builder says so.

i have a little kahler question though.
can i just raise and lower the thing, like a floyd, to change the action??
how does it work, ive never seen a kahler for real, but everyone tells me its the best, even the builder says so.

Yes, You can. I just did that to my KKV with Kahler. I didnīt do it myself īcause I donīt know how to but itīs possible. You could probably do it Yourself but Iīm just really lazy...

from what ive heard from the guitarbuilder that im getting my axe now, hes paying around 200 /250 euros for a kahler
and theyre 360 usd, so i mean, he cant pay more than 300 euros for 1, unless they rip him off

Ran are getting a lot more orders now days so of course the price will go up. I gonna order my next one really soon before they get even more expensive. Maybe the word expensive isnīt right when talking about Ran Guitars... They make great guitars to a great price!
And some news about frets... They got all kinds of frets now. Here is from the last mail from Dariusz:
The frets by Ran are as follows:
standard - Gotoh - 2,70 mm /width/ x 1,10 mm /heigth/
medium - Gotoh - 2,70 mm x 1,20 mm
extra jumbo - Dunlop 6100 - 2,79 mm x 1,40 mm
But from now, we offer also Dunlop frets: 6000, 6105, 6110, 6130, 6150 and 6230.
The dimensions you can check out on www.jimdunlop.com
There You go... But I still donīt know what frets I gonna go with on my next gutiar.. Iīm thinking some kinda extra jumbo but...

what i did is i measured my frets, i measured the hight and width of the crown (top domed part of the fretwire) and compared it to the size chart on dunlops website. it turns out i have 6100 frets (extra jumbo), and theyre great, absolutely perfect for me. i think theyre better for people with big hands and want to shred.
i guess it depends on the size of your hands and what you feel comfortable with. but if your comfortable with your current fret wire size, then why take the risk of chosing a larger size. by all means test out a jumbo fretted guitar but just make sure that your ran isnt going to be the first guitar you try with jumbo frets.

Yeah, Youīre absolutly right. I donīt wanna end up with a guitar that I donīt really like. Iīm triyng to find out if i got jumbo frets on my BC Rich KKV, but i still donīt know. I gonna find out tomorrow when I get it from my local music store. He knows, if he donīt he can measure it for me. Than Iīll see which is best when I can compare them at once.
Sometimes there are too many options... Woods, pick ups, Kahler/Floyd, fretboard wood, fret size, neck profile, neck width, paintjob, inlays and the list just goes on and on...

Yea my second.
I ordered it ageeees ago. December/January I think.
Anyway, yes I sold my first one. I needed to sell a guitar and it played the least well out of the guitars I had at the time. That's the way it goes.

I wanna see more Thunderbirds and plain V's(not RR's, I don't like em as much). People need to look into getting cooler paintjobs like that grey flamed top on a USA Jackson Warrior someone posted in another thread....

That was a normal V (white/red bevels) I believe, the wings looked symmetrical to me.

YEP , not the black seethru though.
just a warrior, jackson headstock, kahler trem, no bindings like i wanted before, just all wood basicaly, finished with oil to make the wood darker.
im not completely sure bout the pu's yet, i still have a sd invader and fullshred at home, i think im gonan use the fullshred for the neck, and then order a X2N for the bridge.

If you can wait for about six months, I can do you that favor. I just don't know, if you like the result, compared with all the beautiful axes seen here, it won't "look metal", I'd assume.

I kinda like it closer to my hand as opposed to the top of the body. Do you have a better suggestion for toggle placement?

Hey guys...I was wondering what's the usual "completion time" for your custom Rans?
My parents are going to Poland for the holidays and I can avoid customs shipping charges if he can have it available by Christmas/New Years.
Think if I paid a little extra he'd speed it up? I realllllly want a custom Ran and it's a very very very strong possiblity, i'd only have to pay a 1/3 of the cost..my parents are being very generous this christmas since the last few ones we've had to be stringent due to not much money coming into the house, and now that my dad has a source of income we can afford something like this for me. but I dont want customs to KILL me...
if it's impossible to have it ready by then, how much is customs gonna cost me?

actually you can't avoid customs charges cause when your parents come back from the border they will get nailed for some duty, having said that though yes you could aviod the shipping charges, but its the duty that kills mang
oh and how much will customs cost you? most likely A FUCK OF ALOT

They might avoid tax duties all together, depending on the laws. Somethings are duty free. If duties do have to be payed it would not be much more the $100. I would claiming I brought one with me or not claim it at all. You come in with 1 guitar, you leave with 1 guitar. I don't know if that would work but as long as Customs doesn't look to close I'm willing to bet it would work. Most times they will never even check your stuff. If it all goes wrong just say, " oh yeah, I forgot about that guitar, sorry"
I've got a ton of stuff passed Customs by myself, some things not allowed in the US ( foriegn moneys, foriegn stamped silver and gold bars, Cuban cigars, booz, ect ), but if it is shipped then there is no way to get it by them. There is an invoice to see. Getting it by as personal belongings is far easier.

Read the whole thread, people ask that question all the time.
Would you rather wait a year for an ESP or Jackson custom and pay twice as much? The reason people get these is not because they look good (its custom, you can make them look like whatever you want) its because its full custom and inexpensive, and they play good. Even Soul thought they played better than his previous jackson customs. This has all been stated throughout the thread many 'o time.

Well, Dariusz said it's impossible for a christmas completion time...and my custom guitar is gonna cost 1080 Euros, or 1296 dollars + customs .
I'm gonna talk to my parents tonight, hopefully they're feeling good and generous. If I can get $650 (half cost) and then cover whatever customs costs us, I should be all right.

Do you guys really need a custom guitar? Why can't you just go for a good one? No offense, just a thought....

thats an interesting point, and the answer can be 100% EITHER way. no, you dont really need a custom les paul, but something like a 24 fret rhoads with say a maple fingerboard cant be found

Having a guitar that is completely and totally your own is worth the price tag. Oh yeah, I officially ordered my Ran on July 5th and Dariusz has told me that its gonna be ready (hopefully) on December 5th...so that's about a 6 month wait time...to whomever asked that question.

you and 104912830 people on this world.
my ran is a one-off. nobody has a guitar like it and there's no guitar for sale that comes close. that's what's so cool about customs, you can get any specs you want and make it as original as you want.
do I need a custom guitar? no, I have 'regular' guitars too. but there was no guitar for sale which had the specs I wanted so I had one made. it wasn't even that expensive if you compare it to regular guitars but you really can't beat hand-made guitars. the fretwork and neck just feel soo much better.

basically;
-great sustain and tone (mine is neck-thru mahogany with a fixed lp bridge)
-mine has emg 85 for leads (in the neck pos) and an 81 (bridge pos)
-neck is fast but you can get them in any profile you want, I basically copied a wizzard I neck.
