Yeah, I actually read a bit about that story on the first twentysome pages. Was much too lazy to do the rest though. Anyways I guess it's just the typical uncomfortable feeling when you're paid really lousy on your job, which you're gonna loose the next year anyway. But since I'm neighbours with Poland, I guess if it comes down to it I could just hop in my car and "visit" Dariusz if it came down to it. And get the crap beaten out of me with a custom warlock while trying something funny. Hm .., come to think about it, simply trusting the man seems wiser.
EDIT
Okay even though I don't like the more "drastical" shapes ... that guitar kicks ass. Gratz man.

US Customs Office and the shipping company were my only problems but those are fixed now. Ran did everything they could for me. I got the guitar but it took time.

It doesn't make sense because I made the same transaction about 4 months ago...now they are being fucking dumd. Maybe it is the heat getting to them...or just bank of america.

One thing that bugs me and I wanted to ask for ....
Has anyone of you guys experiences with basswood body w/ maple tops? I included that one for a price quote but mainly for cosmetical reasons. To be honest, I've never played that wood combination actually and was wondering if the maple top would change the sound of DiMarzio Evolutions on basswood body drastically.

Not really. Potatoes would be shitty as body material, basswood is fine. Potatoes would also be a hell of a mess when it comes to mounting pickups into it. You also get zero attack from potatoes, they sound rather muddy. You could probably fix that by frying them, but again you'd have to do that on a regular basis like every few weeks or so. And then you'd get cancer from playing guitar. That's rather a con imo. You definitelly won't have that issue whith basswood. In conclusion basswood comes pretty close to being the perfect body material.

In comparison of other woods? Now that comes as a surprise!
Okay, listen, I let you in on a secret. But you mustn't spread that, I'll take your word:
You can't use potatoes as the body material for a guitar. Hope that wasn't too much of a shock for you.
Okay now go out and ask the first person you see to teach you some manners. And then ask him about that mysterious new thing you've discovered today. Which is called 'sarcasm'. He might help you. You'll feel better, trust me. Go, do it!
Back again?
Nice.
And now, right from the start. I'm gonna put it simple.
When it comes to tonewoods, to some degree it's a matter of preference. So, basswood isn't shitty, there are people who like it and there are people who don't like it. Some prefer alder, some prefer mahogany. Some prefer basswood. I actually prefer basswood. You should try it, it sounds quite good, I'm not kidding you.

It looks great imo, i assume it would play real good too simply because of the build quality, i don't think you can go wrong with it

Tranny, if you like the looks and the specs, then it'll play the same as any other Ran: excellently.
London's alright Evo, obviously some people are shook up, but it's relatively calm over here.

Basswood is not like alder, its got more lows and highs and less mids than Alder which is a more neutral tonewood. Vai uses guitars made out of basswood so I can't see why it would be bad to get a guitar made out of it and if you get EMG's sit wont matter much anyway.

To be honest, Vai's Jems are the reason I'd stick whith basswood and Evolutions instead of EMGs.

no, they will make your guitar without telling you how much it is then they will demand 1 million dollars in excahnge for your guitar right when its done being built.
But if they dont do that, then yes, he will tell you the total, shipping+case+guitar, then you send payment and he will start building.

As far as I know Ran use a synthetic mop for normal complicated inlays mop for dots and custom inlays.
Floran's dragon EXP has a painted red Dragon I think it's painted anyways?
But most of Rans inlays are that inlays either mop abalone or synthetic mop..

I just try to be funny, you have to take everything too far.
Man, that was a good one.
Anyway, I just wanted to check a few things I'm obviously unable to find out on my own.
I.e. fret size Extra Jumbo, this one is similar to jumbo sized frets in most modern strats, ain't it? And Clear Satin neck finish, that's more ore less the same which is used for most Ibanez RGs or ESP M-2s, isn't it? Just wanted to ask since I'm not too sure about these points.
However, got my price quote today and since I'm pretty confident that I'm going to order that baby this year, this might be interesting to someone. Or at least funny, there's basswood.
Quote:
The RG guitar in your specification costs 1220 euros /custom logo and clear
satin neck finish included/.
The prices of additional options are as follows:
- fading black see-thru finish + 70 euros
- matched headstock + 20 euros
- Ibanez tremolo...sorry, we don`t offer these parts
Best regards

I don't see how that guitar would be much different then a stock Ibanez RG. You might be able to buy a Ibanez and have it modified for cheaper.

Extra jumbo=6100 for dunlop fret wire. I love the stuff but everyone is different. I'm sorry I suggested it back in the day to you
At least you got them fixed the way you like them now

Yeah, I see your point. I got a Jem555 next to me and from my experience, Jems seem to be the best guitars for my preferences. I've asked myself the same question, why order a custom then? There are just a few tweaks which aren't that easy to come across. I.e. I had the opportunity to play a JEM90Ham w/ ebony fretboard and the ebony boosted my playing through the roof. On the other hand these cost a fortune. Same whith the PU selector, I had a 77 modified once and due to the way it's buildt, that wasn't cheap either.
I'm surprised by the low price, so I don't see a RG modified to my needs that much cheaper, though I'm not sure, I'll take your word on that. And I think putting on a maple top afterwards wouldn't do the price tag any good, either.
I see it like this: many aspects of that guitar are going to be similar compared to stock guitars, but I played them, loved them and I know what I can expect. I think, the beauty lies in the details, the price tag and the one-of-a-kind custom logo on the headstock.
Hm ... as far as I can remember, 6100 would be fine. Too bad, that isn't really far.

Sorry guys, desperate times call for desperate measures. I've got my first Ran on Ebay. It's a lefty thou I'm afraid.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
Please don't ask why I'm selling it, I just need to get on top of money you'know. The guitar is perfect in every way, it's a real shame.
I know that I lifted alot of stuff from another Ran auction but he just wrote some damn good stuff.
So yea, if you know any lefties, please spread the word.

The no metal thing is just for auctions sake, i don't want to be all soppy on my auction say 'money troubles etc' I just find it easier. I'm no dork.
I have one more ran coming which is an explorer, which is mahogany and 24.75 which is MY thing TOTALLY. The Invader is amazing however it is alder/maple and 25.5 which is the only non mahogany 24.75 guitar I have. I need to sell a guitar I'm afraid so it has to go. I ain't selling my Les Pauls!!
