I'm sorry for being such a n00b but could somebody explain the difference between LSR tuning gears and ordinary Machine heads besides the difference in appearence...and that i never saw a machine head with a tuning ratio of 1:40...

They just operate better as tuning gears by design. They lock the string and have no slack. I would have them on all my guitars if they didn't cost $200 a set.

rattler... long story short... everybody (right?) loves ran... and think they kickass... they use active EMG's as stock, so they all sound generally the same... and you can get whatever the fuck you want from them, for half the price of a custom jackson.

I'm on the ball here eh? that is... unless somebody hates ran...

They are well made guitars and are the best deal anywhere in the world at the moment. They are made just as good and, in many cases, are better then US made guitars imo. Sure they look like Jackson and B.C. Rich's but I say thank God! It is hard to find a company that will make them close to those specs for less then $4,000. Ran does have the thinest neck I have ever seen on a guitar though. It gets thicker toward the heel a bit but nothing to bad.

I think the cost would even be less then a $100 difference. Go ahead and get them if you want them. If you are going to have to made for you then go all out and get what you want.

It would definately depend on what design inlays you ask for. Also, it'd probably cost more if you asked for like pearl or abalone, I think since the standard is plastic for them.

It is plastic but it is nicely inlayed plastic. I'm starting to like it better then MOP actually. Plastic is more even in color.

i just figured this out today. I havent gotten a reply email yet and its been like 5 days. the problem is that the website uses my computer's microsoft outlook to send it. So maybe if your outlook isn't attached to an email address or server, the email wont make it there... it will just sit in the outbox.

Oh yes, she graced my presence 5 minutes before I had to go to work yesterday....bummer!

Anyway, she is amazing, absolutly flawless. The craftmanship is perfect, everything....it's insane! The neck which I specified to be a Gibson '59 is a dream! It has a slightly flatter radius than I had hoped but it is my faulty for not specifing.

My only gripe is that I asked it to be set up in Eb with 10's but it came in E with I don't know what but strings heavier than .10s It's all good thou, a quick re string and adjustment and we are rocking.

I'm rubbish at reviewing but ask anything you wanna know and I'll do my best to anwser.

Fucking beautiful! I wouldn't worry so much about the setup as you might have to readjust it after a year anyway. New guitars take about a year for the woods to settle. Nothing major. It is normal for all guitars.

I'm not a fan of neck binding to be honest, Don't know why but I prefer the feel of an unbound neck.


Oh an 6-7 hours? More like 9! Work 2pm-around 11pm, it came at 1:45pm, took it out, played Dittohead once throu then went to work, got home about midnight and rocked it until 4am this morning.

I don't think anything is wrong with it. It is what you want. I might have gotten different specs but that is me. I like different stuff. Headstock does look mean imo.

dude thats fucking awesome, I know how it felt whne i first got my ran, it was kick ass, a very happy moment.

Right now mine is buzzing a little on the E string, it has 10's on it right now (SIT strings) i might change back to DR's, theres also a little backbow in the neck, i need to setout a day for a whole readjustment. New strings, clean it, adjust truss, and adjust floyd. Im still a young grasshopper at the art of floyding, but i am learning, I took a chance to have the first floyd/trem guitar i own be a 2,000 dollar custom shop guitar from poland but i like it. Im gonna get another ran within a few years for sure, right now i am strapped for money with all these car issues happening. Fucking M=L went out and drove my car drunk while we were partying and i was sleeping. He blew the whole engine and burnt the clutch out right before i graduate high school, and right after i quit my job cause im about to move to vail, colorado for a tech intern job im getting for the summer but now its delayed cause i have no car, and no money to fix it. But when i get back on my feet, and have a little saved i wanna get a Kahler 2315 and pop it into another custom ran, it might have to be an invader this time.

Okay I've read the little forum on Ran guitars and such. Now here is the possibly semi-retarded question. . . What is the big deal about them, whoever may answer just message me because I will probably not make it back to any of the forums on that or I will forget. I just don't understand what makes them so "great." Is it like they are just more affordable custom shop guitars or what. . . I mean, I play an ESP so of course I can't make fun of Ran, but if/when I get a high enough credit limit. . . PRS custom 24 ten top in tobacco burst. . . Yeah, people probably don't like those much around on this forum but eh, everybody has their personal preference. Maybe they aren't "worth the money" or as a Fernandes dealer told me once. . . lol, nice to hear that M=L is still around I would like to have another Ran myself, but I got another baby on the way instead. Have fun adjusting the Ran, but get yourself suspended first so you will have the time to work on it. It is actually easy to set them up because they are made good in the first place. I just adjusted my action and truss rod back when I was suspended.

Yes, it isn't a instant quote. Big D e-mails you an exact quote once he figures out what is going to take to build it. Some people ask for options that are not listed ( DEF ) so it could take a day to price correctly. Whatever he tells you will be the final price as long as you don't change you mind and want something else.
