It is the nerd way of spelling "cult". However, I don't think I have ever seen anyone spell it that way without being sarcastic.

Just cult? That's fucking corny. I thought it was some evil word in Norwegian or something. Just for that I'm bringing back all the corpse paint and black nail polish I bought today. Fuck this bandwagon.

Yeah, wtf is up with the French? for a country that's considered so pussy, they sure make the most vicouis, violent BM ever. You got the "Legions Noires", which included Mutiilation, Vlad Tepes, and Belketre (most violent BM band EVER), and you also have the greatness that is Deathspell Omega. Seriously, I don't think I've ever heard any black metal band that had the hatred in their music of the 4 I mentioned. Burzum sounds like playground music compared to the likes of Belketre.
Ukraine....not too farmaliar with, but I know Drudkh and Hate Forest come from their, as do Nokturnal Mortum, so I know they ain't no slouches.

Uhh...from what I have heard, Burzum seems pretty easy to handle anyway. I mean..... it doesn't even sound like metal. ::enjoys being a blasphemer::

if youre basing that on hlidskjalf or daudi baldrs its not metal, its keyboard instrumentation of old riffs he never got to record
otherwise listen to the vocals on Hvis lyset tar oss... some of the most intense vocals ever
other vocals are grim in black metal for sure, but few touch his level of insanity and fear

I've heard that it is all acoustic. I would like to hear it though, that guy can sing pretty well. But this will destroy whatever credibility they had as a black metal band.

wintersun isnt really black metal though, in my opinioin they are just part of the new gothenburg scene, like what in flames or dark tranquility used to be but faster and more modern. They are great though, love his riffs.

I see where the thing got offroad, people kinda think viking metal and black metal are very similar, that might have been true in the early days, and they sure share the same ancestors, but while 70% sounds kinda blackmetal-y, a lot of viking metal has gone a seperate path.
Wintersun sounds like non-sucky powermetal.

thats pretty hard. for one thing, i dont even know if you like keyboards, or what kind of black metal you like. if i made you a list of bands I like, it would be 98% melodic, and almost all have keyboards.

Power metal without the operatic vocals, which is a huge part of the genre. Thats like a black metal band with a Dragonforce-esque singer. Still a really good band though.

Well, consider 'epic' sound, riffing in major key, and lots and lots of lead and solo's.

Also, I'm tired of seeing people calling bands like Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir (even though their earlier stuff was bland borring black metal), Borknagar, Children of Bodom (ESPECIALLY CHILDREN OF BODOM) ect, ect, ect black metal when they aren't.

You must be one of those metalheads who wont accept anything but Norweigian BM as BM
CoB isnt even close to BM.I hate when people call them BM they are just your typical Metal band.Alexi's vocals suck playing-wise they are ok.
CoF used to be BM,then Goth Metal, and now some wierd shit that i still like.
DB is like Symphonic BM.

Well no, I'm not. I don't think that norway is the only country with "true" black metal. I enjoy black metal from Russia, Ukraine and France mainly. And for the other fellow, Borknagar may have been black metal at one point but now they're just a vintersorg clone and I have no respect for them. They don't deserve to be called black metal. They are Flower metal.

Shan't be too difficult then. and yes, people argue too much about what is, or isnt, black metal. but i cant complain too much on that because i am guilty as well. you liking Cradle will help here. listen to these bands:
Summoning, used to be black metal on the first album, the next was so keyboard driven and whatnot that it became more of "dark metal". later i see it as epic folk/black metal. just that its very slow most of the time.
Falkenbach, one minute its black metal, the next its viking/folk.
Thy serpant, switches between atmospheric synth to black metal guitars.
Graveworm, pretty gloomy synth, black metal. however, Nutopia is as dumb as its name, IMO.
Agathodaimon, gothish black metal with great guitars and keys.
Drama, if you like Immortal
Embraced, melodic death/black... i think id say that. um, tons of piano and synth, great melodic guitars.
Taake, viking black. some good moments.
Illnath, symphonic black. like Cradle of Filth's Midian and such.
Hecate Enthroned, like Cradle as well. (the slaughter of innocence and Dark Requiems)
Nokturnal Mortum, folk black. hear Goathorns.
Mourn in Silence, very melodic. calls themselves "extreme power metal"
Essence of Existence, symphonic black. great keys.
For doing that, you have to go hear all of them, now. you're welcome.

To be honest, it's most definetly not my style of black metal... It's good for what it is I guess... it sorta reminds me of immortal in a cheesy riff sorta way.... sorry... to say...
ps here's a sample from my upcoming demo.
http://rapidshare.de/files/37156414...nnamed.mp3.html say what you will of it. I enjoyed playing it and I enjoy listening to it.

im not fighting or anything dude, its great to have your own opinion and shit, and im not offended by it being compared to immortal or anything [in fact because they are one of the biggest black metal bands thats a compliment!] i just dont see alot of immortal influence haha
Anyway did anyone listen to Blakk Mass Murder, the Sad Ex cover?

INFINIYYYYYYYYYY! i was hoping youd respond to my suggestion on the spoken word over that killer riff... what did you think about the whole idea? honestly, man, that would be incredibly suitable, if you ask me. and yes, i did hear the other songs, but i wasnt into the cover one because ive never heard the original version, so it makes it hard to care about the cover, you know? and for the last one, well, to be honest i was still fixated on that KILLER riff on In the playground.

i guess not, cause i just heard "heart", and overall its better than "In the playground". i dont know if you realize it, but your riffs often come close to a Lunar Strain (in flames) vibe. moreso on this "heart" one. thats a good thing, IMO, but im sure it wasnt what you were aiming at.

Rofl nt on the flame attempt on my demo track infinity. I think I shall keep my drummer and I think I shall keep my style. And I listen to a lot more black metal then you do. (Seeing as I have about 46 gigs of black metal on my computer alone, not to mention the large collection of CDs/Tapes I own) I am influenced by mostly French NSBM bands and a bunch of ukrainian bands.

In response to Requiem's question, I think you should start with the first the first 3 mayhem albums, all of burzum's black metal stuff and move on from there. It's easy to find. I would also highly recommend Drudkh, not so much raw but probably the best black metal band out there. Seigneur Voland and Wolfnacht are recommend if you can tolerate a little bit of racism. Lutomysl is another solid Ukrainian Bm band. I highly recommend them. Pretty much anything in Blazebirth hall (Forest, Raven dark, branikald ect ect ect). Abyssic Hate is pretty fucking cool too, but they're not so much "raw" they have raw production but they don't have an "evil" sound. Von is pretty much as raw as it comes, I highly recommend them and if you like Von, check out Swine, it's pretty much a clone of Von. Deathspell Omega kicks major ass too. Start with those bands and if you like them I'll recommend more.

Oh okey wise guy if you listen to so much awesome black metal than why does your band suck and why do I have a better sound and better songs than you, I must be such a n00b, as it seems the older wiser and more black metal you listen to makes you worse, which is better than being good, and I suppose being influenced by the french oh that just puts you on a whole new plane YOU FUCKING WANKER.
Oh and flame attempt? Try constructive criticism you black metal fag.

Shit man. What bullshit. The only decent band from that post is Seigneur Voland (and 'yeh their cewl cuz there racist').
Oh yeah, Deathspell Omega does not 'kick ass'. That is why you shouldn't listen to it.
But heck, for people like you it's just a fase. In 5 years you'll look back at yourself, laughing 'hah yes, I was young then'.

You're an idiot. Your band sounds like 99% of the other trash black metal out there. It's steriotypical usbm. As for the other faggot who says that Seigneur Voland is the only decent band in there, you're a fucking idiot. I highly doubt you've even heard of or listened to any of those blazebirth hall bands. You're a fucking twat if you think that. And Infinity, don't even try to say you're more black metal than I, mr. blink182. I never once said my demo was awesome, I said I liked it and had fun playing it. I don't even know why I waste my time here, you kids are all fuckin' morons with no taste in black metal, obviously. And some of the best black metal comes out of france you fucking retard.

HA. It's cause Norweigians don't have access to the internet, so they cannot defend their precious black metal.

Silly BB, it's not paint. Black metallers are of a race that is one third pure evil, one third human, and one third zebra. Don't fuck with them, they might actually change the tempo on you.

What ever, so far everyone on this site has been an ignorant retard. I don't know about you timedragon, I haven't really talked to you but you seem to be the only one who isn't retarded, knows how to spell and has not tried to be offensive for the sake of being offensive.

Well regardless, anyone who enjoys peste noire/alcest should check out Amesoeurs. It's the side project of Neige. I highly recommend it to anyone who isn't an ignorant cocksucker and has a good taste in black metal... which pretty much discludes this whole forum... but what ever check it out anyways it's good.

missed this^one.
would have replied as: that could be because i dont quite visit here for music purposes anymore. back when i was here solely for music purposes, i would get mad and irritated when id read stuff that spoke unkindly about the music i listen to. so i just accepted i wont be discussing music much, here. people usually would leave, and not return. unless, of coarse, they too had taken a tad too much part in the chit chat area. oh and, yes, 'tis true that i am aware of the backspace key.

Why can't black metal threads ever just play nice? If 'everybody's a retard,' or otherwise incapable of understanding your pretty little insights (for example, if they're not true, or don't seem to know shit about the genre, or whatever), then don't argue with them. Save your arguments for the people you feel can get them and keep the thread clean of the stupid bitching that people like me always expect from these discussions.
