Bodom's best is Kissing the Shadows
Any Masvidal solo \m/

hehe...
1) Morbid Angel - Invocation of the Continual One. Unreal. anyone have a tab?
2) Theory In Practice - Colonizing The Sun. Mm..especially the part when one guitar plays fast sweeped arpeggios and other plays the melody.
3) Death - Flesh and the Power it Holds. A really psychotic one.

Almost every solo on Carcass' heartwork, particularly in "death certificate" and "this mortal coil"
Ammott's solos in Arch Enemy's "beast of man" and "burning angel"
Death's "to forgive is to suffer" ..especially that dischord in the beginning of the solo
Both of Trey's solos in Morbid Angel's "rapture" ..especially the second one, with that little partial muting bit in there
Samoth's solo in the middle of Psyklon Aeon by Zyklon is pretty kool
Solo in the live version of "this love" on Pantera's 101 Proof
The solo in Sepultura's Nomad.
There are probably tons more I am forgetting...
EDIT: I don't base mine only on technical ability.. emotion counts more

I've heard so many good solos I'm not easily impressed anymore but these solo get me every time I hear them.
Pantera Floods
Metallica The four horseman
Megadeth peace sells wake up dead
Overkill hello from the gutter
randy rhoades crazy train
Acdc you shook me all night long
Those are just the ones I listened to today. Note I don't like ozzy randy gets the credit for crazy train. Oh and floods is the one that I'm the most impressed with the rest are in no order.

the coolest solo ever would have to be the solo in a metalica song called Blackened off of ....and Justice for All. you can tell kirk had every note memorized perfect, rather than improvising it. That takes way more skill and practice to be able to do. It is also very long and fast as hell. props to kirk hammett for that one.

truly difficult solo's
A few of the truly most difficult solos ever would be
Pantera- Cemetary Gates, Domination, Floods
Metallica- Blackened, Fade to Black, Dyers Eve
Megadeth- Holy Wars, Hangar 18
Dragonforce- Fury of the Storm
Buckethead- Most of his stuff even though it sometimes sounds like crap
Iron Maiden- Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Trooper
Guns N' Roses- November Rain, Sweet Child O' Mine
Children of Bodom- Lake Bodom, Bodom After Midnight, Downfall... Everything else by them is insane too
Dream Theater- Pull Me Under
Avenged Sevenfold- Burn It Down, Afterlife
Yngwie Malmsteen- Arpeggios From Hell
Joe Satriani- Surfing With the Alien
Van Halen- Hot for Teacher.. PS Eruption really isn't that hard even though it sounds crazy
Ozzy Osbourne- Crazy Train
If anyone can play most of these solos fairly well, you are insanely good at guitar, i can only play a few of these

I don't listen to them, they are so heavy, it just scares the shit outta me every time I listen to them.
I'm serious I think these new guys come in here and try to find the oldest possible thread to revive and then drop an avenged sevenfold bomb.....

I wonder why noone has mentioned Sepultura - Inquisition Symphony yet...
The last solo of that song is completely outrageous!
More:
Enslaved - Heir to the Cosmic Seed
Enslaved - Neogenesis
Slayer - Necrophobic
Slayer - Eyes of the Insane
Slayer - Flesh Storm
Megadeth - Holy Wars... the Punishment Due
And many more (Enslaved) songs.

I really like, no, I love David Gilmour's solos, but as for metal, Opeth has some solos that I like a lot, especially in songs like Ghost Of Perdition and Baying Of The Hounds.
One of the best fitting solos is in Drudkh's song Furrows Of Gods.
I don't really like extremely fast solos where all they play is scales or some random dissonant (but fast) playing that doesn't fit with the songs' atmosphere, improve it at all or serve any purpose other than being there just for the sake of being there.
