The only reason they got rid of him was because he didn't speak very much English How gh3y.

wow...
I actually think the music is really cool. The vocals have their moments, but they are mainly gay. But since this was made by Cryptopsy, it is fucking horrible...

Musically yeah they sold us out. More than likely they changed to make more money, which they won't. This album WILL tank because they no longer have a fanbase.
And honestly, if this was a side project this wouldn't be that big of a deal. But since they are going to release this garbage under the mighty name of Cryptopsy, they're permanently damaging their credibility (and that's putting it lightly).
Dammit I can't listen to Whisper Supremacy without feeling like a friend just died.

exactly. it would have beeen a small/medium sized mistake that could be easily forgiven. but instead they chose to destroy a powerful name.

Yeah it's really sad.
A thing I don't understand is even though some of the elements in their new songs are 100% mainstream music, I can't think of absolutely ANY audience be it a mainstream or underground metal that is going to like this to any extent.
It's just so monumentally bad that I think this'll be their worst selling album. I bet they'll probably make less money from it than what they made with BMF.

The production wasn't too bad on DiSalvo's albums. "And Then You'll Beg" sounded pretty damn good imo.

Exactly. Whoever made that should used OWN instead of going with his own opinion.

Wasn't me, I found it on another forum BMF wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.

BMF would be outstanding if the production was better. Defenestration is a killer song.

I know. I was just pointing my finger at whoever made it. BMF isn't great, but at the time it was made it was pretty damn brutal.

From Wikipedia:
Several unsourced reports are circulating the internet that hapless ex-fans with Cryptopsy tattoos have turned to self-harming, due to feeling "mercilessly pwned." But in an attempt to lay to rest any concerns, the band have promised to release a more intense track on their myspace, however, many already feel that nothing short of miracle can save this, quote, "musical 9/11."
Hahaha.
Look at their forum at SMN news, it's practically full of trash-talking. They are so getting pelted with food on the next tour.

"Drummer Flo Mounier of the Canadian metallers CRYPTOPSY has defended the shift in the band's musical direction on their forthcoming sixth full-length studio album, "The Unspoken King", after unfinished versions of several of the tracks surfaced on the Internet.
A CRYPTOPSY fan named "Sam" made an online posting directed to Flo in which he stated about group's new material, "there is a difference between adding experimental touches to music and completely and utterly throwing everything you've done on past albums out the window. Now I haven't heard the full new album so I can't base a full opinion on it yet. But I sure as hell know that I'm not the only one feeling this way. The way I see it (and countless others I have spoken to about the issue) is that you've alienated your core fan base completely, which is shit, because die-hard fans like myself are just left saying 'What the fuck?' Also the new tunes I've heard sound pretty commercial, but not commercial enough to get a whole new fan base off the ground in my opinion. As a musician myself, I know what it's like to want to play something different and change it up every once in awhile. But at least change the name of the band if you guys are going to release this because listening to 'Bemoan the Martyr' [off the forthcoming album] and then putting on something great like 'Loathe', 'Shroud' or 'Phobophile', it just doesn't sound like the CRYPTOPSY I know and love, and have spent a lot of my hard-earned money getting tattoos, CDs, seeing shows, merch etc."
In his response to Sam, Flo wrote, "[I'm] very disappointed to see how closed-minded some of our fans are. We started extreme metal and now we are doing it even more then before, extreme dynamically. When you listen to the full album, you will understand or not. Never has CRYPTOPSY been soo fast and agressive and at the same time generated feel in metal songs, wow. Not an achievement to you, it seems, but something extremely hard to do. If you get it or not, that's up to you, but people judge fast and I can guarantee that if you open your mind a little, you'll understand and be in awe. No change, then just vote for Bush again while you're at it. You know, [I'm] not an angry person by nature, but god, open your ears."
"The Unspoken King" is CRYPTOPSY's first album to feature new vocalist Matt McGachy, who is also a member of 3 MILE SCREAM.
CRYPTOPSY was forced to cancel its previously announced tour of South America in March after Mounier broke his knee cap. Flo had completed the drum tracking process for the group’s new album prior to the incident, so it did not affect the recording. The tour of South America is expected to be rescheduled later in 2008."
I had no idea Flo was such a arrogant fucktard, but I guess he's earned the right to be.

the whole "We started extreme metal" seems quite arrogant and uncalled for. Not to mention that he's calling his fans closed-minded, when in reality I think it takes an open minded person to even dive into the genre of extreme metal to begin with. A true closed-minded person wouldn't make it past the bands on the radio before deciding what their musical taste consists of.

I really don't like Flo's response. Especially the "Bush" part. Compassion and understanding is a two way street, and it's very sad to see him treat Cryptopsy's fans like this. Especially when their new music is just so straight out BAD, never mind what genre of the season it is.
Cryptopsy was a band of innovation and not imitation. I seriously think they have run out of ideas. This is like fucking Cold Lake all over again. History repeats!

Judging from that, Flo seems like a moron. How could he not see this coming with such a drastic change of direction?
However, I don't think he's saying they were the ones to start extreme metal, but rather that the band started as extreme metal.

Since Jon left the band by reason of not wanting to write extreme music anymore, maybe this is Cryptopsy's way of enticing him back into the fold.

In mid march Drummer Flo Mounier released this statement
"Due to the current circumstances of the fans being unable to comprehend our new material, we have decided to call it quits. It should be said, however, that this will probably not be permanent, but we shall see. For we, the band, feel that the fans deserve from us something that they can appreciate no matter how closed minded they may be, and as such we have failed to deliver such to them, it is our obligation to quit and reevaluate the situation and take stock of our lives. We did not wish to alienate our entire fan base, let alone do it before the album even hit the shelves, but alas that is exactly what we have done. As such we have decided that the best thing to do at the moment is to drop off the SUMMER SLAUGHTER TOUR and postpone the release of our new album "The Unspoken King", possibly forever. We are very sorry if some of you were looking forward to seeing us on tour, but it must be said that as a band, the reaction we got from the leaked songs was not positive at all and it was felt that the same reaction would probably occur out on tour. Therefore, we have decided to not continue on with our current tour and album commitment. Again, we are sorry and want to thank ll the loyal fans for years of buying our stuff and going to see us live despite the line up changes we’ve had over the years!"

I hope it isn't a hoax.
They act like they've made a radical change in their music, like they're now playing some crazy avant-garde material and they call anyone who doesn't like the new shit "close-minded". It isn't that we're not open to clean vocals and a new direction, its that we're opposed to a band, who was usually on the forefront of metal, is now releasing material that sounds EXACTLY like 10,000 other shitty bands.

It seems Flo believes Cryptopsy can't write bad music, and we're closed-minded because we don't like this "excellent music" they've been experimenting with. Have they even considered that it might actually be bad music, or are they the close-minded ones?
Adding cleans vocals and keyboards, in my opinion, wasn't a bad idea. It was the music in general. Adding clean vocal bits into technical death metal might be interesting with it was done right, but do you honestly have to drasticlly change your sound to incorperate clean vocals and keyboards? It could have been different but it sounds too familiar.

as truthdevoid stated, getting into extreme and complex music requires an extremely open mind. I think Flo responded in a daze of frustration caused by his fans hating this new crap

It's true, extreme metal in general requires an open mind. It's probably true that Flo is just pissed that everyone hates their new music. Either they are too proud to say that it sucks or they actually think what they wrote was good.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read the first interview with Flo that LordofStorms posted. He sure isn't as cool as I used to think he was
"I'm very disappointed to see how closed-minded some of our fans are"
Does he fucking realize who he's talking about? Some of these so called "closed-minded fans" have been into Cryptopsy since 1993/1994. If it weren't for these "closed-minded fans", they wouldn't be shit today. So fucking sue us for being loyal and mourning the loss of the old Cryptopsy. It seems that they are looking for a new fan base... they must be, if they insist on releasing this shit album, AND insulting the loyal fans in the process.
Never has CRYPTOPSY been soo fast and agressive and at the same time generated feel in metal songs, wow.
Whisper Supremacy was fast and aggressive, and had alot of feel to it, same with ATYB. In comparison, this new album is about as aggressive as Alanis Morissette doing a gig on quaaludes.
No change, then just vote for Bush again while you're at it.
"Do you hear that? [Dun Dun Dun Dun] That, is the sound... of stupidity."

Or, they might be uber frustrated because they realized that they really stepped in the muck this time and it's kinda too late to change shit. Not only did they step in the muck, they kicked it into our faces.

I don't think he wants to join a decent band... he seems rather proud of what he has made
Does anyone know if DiSalvo joined any other bands after he left Cryptopsy?

Haha you're right. The bass really stands out on None so Vile in particular, the first I heard of them.
Come to think of it, Cryptopsy was one of the first death metal bands I really got into. Wow, that makes this whole situation suck a lot more. Maybe I shouldn't have remembered that.

One thing to keep in mind though is that even though they have turned to shit, it doesn't take away from how awesome they were in the past. I will always love older cryptopsy, no matter how bad of shit they put out now or in the future. Who knows, maybe they'll learn a hard lesson from the uproar they've caused in the death metal community and they'll straighten themselves out and one day be putting out good music once again. But no matter what happens, None So Vile is always be None So Vile and nothing they do now can ever change that. And the same goes with the rest of their albums.

While thats true, I can't stand the fact that having Cryptopsy roll into town a couple months from now means absolutely nothing. How much old stuff can they possibly play?

I think it would still be interesting to see them. I mean they can't play just stuff off the new album. At least i wouldn't think they would do something like that. I'm just not sure how the new vocalist could handle the older shit, but who knows maybe he could. I mean I don't think they would hire him if he couldn't at least do a decent job on the classics. It might not be his main style of vocals, but that doesn't mean he's necessarily incapable of doing it.

And how much can they make their keyboardist stand there and do nothing?
I guess as long as they play a few classics I could enjoy those. As long as they aren't butchered or something ridiculous.

All she has to do is stand there and look good haha. i dont think they'll change their entire set just because she doesnt have a place in their old music. She'll probably just stand there and headbang or something. What does Opeth do with their keyboardist when they play their older shit? I don't think they just cut all their older songs out of their set. The keyboardist probably just stands there and headbands and makes it look like he's playing.

Hmm I guess. We'll just have to wait and see. They can't cut a classic like Phobophile, and hearing that live will be good enough for me. Ill just have to ignore new songs.

Hey well at least the keyboardist can actually play the piano intro to phobophile, rather than having it sampled or something

Actually Per wrote keyboards part for most of the old songs they perform live. I read it in a interview with Mikael. You can hear them on the Roundhouse Tapes. He actually made them sound a little better imo.

oh really? Didn't know that. I doubt that would work out as well with cryptopsy's style, so I don't know what they'll do then.

That's very true. What they have done now, doesn't change their great albums in the past. Hopefully they will come around and realize what they have done.

i was thinking about Flo's "close-minded" comment, today. he makes it seem like we just hate clean vocals in general. when the case is simply that THOSE cleans/"screams" suck. hah. i wont even mention the guitars, which i didnt pay a lot of attention to anyway. but it seems hes talking about our reaction to the vocals. i was still open-minded when i read about the changes, which is why i was agreeing with Darko's first couple of comments. then it just came down to the fact that those particular vocals suck.

Does anyone know what effect is used on the voice at the beginning of that track? It sounds trippy as fuck.

They've just pitch shifted the vocals down. I believe it's a sample of Mr. Smith from The Matrix.

Sounds like something else in there too... light chorus or flange maybe?

I pretty much go to shows alone all the time, but seeing Cryptopsy right now it would make much more sense to go in a group to have some good laughs at how badly they suck now.
