Check out David Cross. He's a good, Christian comedian. You wouldn't know it from the track titles on his CD's, but they literally have NOTHING to do with the material they cover.

I'd be upset with a record company for putting symbols affiliating me with Satanism on my album cover as well. But, and this is the surprising part, this doesn't make me a Christian. Neither does the desire not to be associated with a dumb controversy to which they're not related make Black Sabbath a Christian band; the world isn't so simple that rejecting (explicit) Satanism is devout Christianity.
The lyrics on Master of Reality are pretty clearly the result of the same pressures that changed 'Walpurgis' to 'War Pigs.' But on the very next album we have lines like 'Got no religion' and 'Don't want no Jesus freak to tell me what it's all about.' Another album and we've got devout Christian teachings like 'God knows as sure as your dog knows.' If you're so interested in explanations about Sabbath, explain all that. I don't think they're a Satanic band, but aside from Iommi - who, again, wrote very few of the lyrics - they don't have any other religious affiliation, either.

Digressing a bit from the topic at hand, which bands constitute that elite corps, then? I'm curious to see which select few merit praise in your eyes.

Believer's pretty good. And, although they are metalcore (which you're clearly into) Demon Hunter are good.
I myself am a "christian" however I'll be one to tell you that the satanic bands tend to be better.

Did anyone know that Saint Peter(a disciple of Jesus) was crucified upside down because he believed he wasn't holy enough to die the same way Jesus did? The whole inverted cross came from the bible, so I don't totally see an inverted cross as "satanic/evil", you can also look at it as being a humble follower of Christ and not comparing yourself to him.
As for Christian bands..
Has anyone ever heard of Whitecross? If you're a fan of Van Halen, you'll love this band.
I consider myself to be christian(not as much of a follower as I should be) and I play in a thrash metal band, we have a song called "Satan's Formation" that my bassist and vocalist wrote, I don't think much of it. We sing about destruction, anti-politics, war, and whatever else is brutal. It doesn't matter much, if I want to reach out to people with my beliefs I will just hang out with some fans after a show and talk to them about it if it gets to that subject.

People did know that. They mentioned it in the very thread you posted in. It's incredible, that coincidence.
It's also hard to say that wearing an upside down cross is the same thing as being crucified upside down - or for that matter that wearing a cross is being crucified - but you seemed to manage that handily. Neat-o.

Yeah, but the problem is, that modern day idiots don't actually read about and study religion, they just believe what their preachers and modern day society tell them. Their was a christian pentagram before their was a satanic pentagram. (And yes, they would even use upside down stars in their pentagrams as well.)

Briefly: outside of the specialized world of hagiography, the upside-down cross is a symbol of Satan. Christ and Satan are not represented hagiographically by a cross and an inverted cross, respectively, for the simple reason that neither are saints and hence neither are represented by hagiography at all. It's not dumb to associated an upside-down cross on an album cover with Satan because an album cover is not a depiction of Saints, hence the upside-down cross is an inverted, Satanic symbol, rather than a medieval indication that the man in the picture is St. Peter. If you really bothered to learn about your religion, you might know this; unless, of course, you're a Protestant, in which case I have to wonder why you give a shit about saints at all.

Just read their lyrics. Some of their songs are more obviously religious than others. Here are the more obvious ones:
Awake
Dying I scream for life
But your eyes are sleeping forever now
Wondering what's to come
I remember the light of your life
Silence shadows of life
Sleep into eternal time
Darkness revenge on earth
My tears are falling above the face
I saw the fallen angel
Kreeping from time to time
Awake jesus christ - the world must survive
A light in front of me appears
I am at the door of fear
Gone is the day and so the time
The light goes off before I cry
Awake Jesus Christ - I saw the hope
Crying the time has come
To destroy the faith on this earth
Jesus christ welcome to be
The saver of this faithless life
Destroying the darkest night
Before the sun will rise for light
Saving nature's life
The sea of blood must stoping now
I saw the fallen angel - die
Lost Yourself
When I awke - from my dream
Obscurity - in my eyes
Burning tears - over me
Angels cry - lifeless time
I will cry - I wish to die
Lost yourself - lost your way
Lie above the holy ground
Devotion to your life
My faith is now my second way
To destroy my inner cry
I hear your voice deep in me
Let me feel your light
Help me god, now it's time
Incarnation on earth
Lost yourself - lost your way
Lost yourself - lost your way
Cry for your life when you just became a sign of god
Follow me into the light where angels fly
Cry as I see your soul leave now the sphere of death
Death is the door to another life where time will stop
Lost yourself - lost your way
Lost yourself - lost your mind
By the grace of God
However one day
Black shadows darkened the light
Destruction of harmony
The horsemen began the sentenced
In the name of god
A battle against godless tribe
A dreadful pact
Lost a thousand innocent souls
A sea of blood was the price
What they must pay for their life
Swords of steal and crys of pain
The silence destroyed once again
No one reason, gave them the right
Fighting a defencless tribe
So they created a misantropic kingdom
Created from a see of dmide
Weeping children died by holy hands
Summoned in the name of jesus christ
Blood fillded heavens lie above destruction
A Shallow faith formed into hate
Die - by the grace of god
Destroyed by their hate
Die - by the grace of god
The mistakes of life
As they ride the hill
To the holy land
A thousand people die
As the angels cry

not all black metal is totally satanic. Even some of the secular black metal bands base alot of their lyrics on nature and war. If you have ever heard antestor, horde, sanctifica, kekal, or lengsel then you may actually realize that there are some really good christian "black" metal artists.

i know i'm quoting an old post, but i'm not the one who dug up this thread. aeon impressed me when i first heard them.. particularly the drumming. but when i got their disc, after hearing and reading their lyrics i felt like i was listening to the bastard cousins of glen benton. maybe it's cuz they're foreign, but their lyrics made me say i would rather sell this to the local record shop for $2 or $3 than keep this thing in my collection. immature blasphemy just ruins it for me.. i feel like these guys belong on a fucking wrestling compilation or something. no thanks

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the band Zion? They're Christian metal trying to imitate Judas Priest. You know in Lord of the Rings how Orc's are an ugly mockery of Elves? Thats what a lot of Christian metal bands are compared to the rest of metal. A mockery. As I Lay Dying etc... isn't even close to being metal by the way. Besides the fact that it's kind of amusing, I don't like the fact that there is upside down crosses and pentagrams in metal. For example, if you're going to wear a necklace that's "metal", then why not get a nice dragon, or maybe a wizard? Christanity influences every element of day to day life, but it's not impossible to avoid if you just think about it.

quick thought. Wouldnt all of these so called "satanic" bands actually be considered a Christian band. Since Satan is the "Christian" god of Hell. Their just singing about the other part of the afterlife, hell, and hells god Satan. Just like so-called "Christian" bands sing about heaven. Its the same concept, same religion, just different spectrum's.

You really don't get things, do you?
Not all bands were using Satan as satanic symbol; They were using it as symbol of freedom, symbol of breakaway from Christianity and from religions in general. Satan as metaphor, not Satan for sake of Satan.

Christian Black Metal? What a bunch of oxymoronic shit.

Shut the hell up. Keep listening to your death metal.
If the musicians were adequate it could make for quite a good result, just different (not even thàt different) lyric matter.

So black metal lyrics have to be about satan, and death metal lyrics have to be about death, in order for the music to fit within their genres?

Black metal is inherently an anti-judeochristian form of music. I think I used the word inherently right.

I really don't buy that though, maybe if it was "Jesus Christ is False and Shitty Metal". I really don't see how Christian lyrics is going to make it sound less black metal.

I've seen more intelligent arguments on the back of a packet of crisps. I suggest you undertake at least some form of reading - Chicken Licken would be a good start - before you post further drivel on these fine boards.

that is somewhat true, i mean kelly from atheist made a point a while back about satanism. I mean he said that he was totally atheistic but that satanism was just another form of christianity. The funny thing he said though was that satanists were the stupid ones because they are worshipping the lesser god who always loses and eventually is put out of the picture. I mean you do definitely have a point whether it was phrased well or not is debatable but i sort of agree with you.

The point of LaVeyan Satanism : If you follow it wholeheartedly to the tee, then not only did you 'fall' for it, but you did'nt grasp what he was doing anyway. IMO.
Post Script : If you read throughout the Satanic Bible, Lavey contradicts himself by stating that there's no such thing as a 'supernatural realm' or what have you, and then lists Enochian calls in the back of the book. He contradicts himself, and I think he knew it. To him, the purpose of life was to get what you want, and a church that was very, very naughty that also gave him a source of financial income was probably what he wanted. And what do you know, he got it. The book was saying, "This is how I did it, you can do it too", but at the same time it convinces those who are willing to follow his ideas, to follow.
And Christianity does'nt have a monopoly on Satan. I've never understood that argument, the Assyrians were giving backdoor homage to Jehovah by praying and making sacrifices to their Shaitans? Please. I don't think the christians get any kind of intellectual royalties whenever someone says a 'hail satan'.

To me Satanism is a bastardized term that can mean way too many fucking things. I know some Satanists, and a few of them are very good people who I respect a lot. The thing is, I don't even think they know what they believe in. Is Satan as actual entity or just something to symbolize an affiliation with the darker side of reality and anti-Christian ideology?
As for the original subject on Christians in metal; I don't think very many Christians gravitate towards metal, and the few that do might eventually see life from a different perspective. I was raised a Christian. If it wasn't for Metal I would probably still be one. Listening to bands like Slayer and Deicide made me question the bible, and eventually I became a Nihilistic Atheist.

I would say that Nihilism is a type of extreme realism where superficial human conventions and illusions are deconstructed and stripped away to reveal the bare nature of existence.

I had an idea of what nihilism was, but this gave me a better idea.
http://www.answers.com/Nihilism+?cat=health
I don't know specifically what you want stripped away, but whatever it is, it almost certainly isn't for the better.
1. Philosophy.
1. An extreme form of skepticism that denies all existence.
2. A doctrine holding that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated.
2. Rejection of all distinctions in moral or religious value and a willingness to repudiate all previous theories of morality or religious belief.
3. The belief that destruction of existing political or social institutions is necessary for future improvement.
4. also Nihilism A diffuse, revolutionary movement of mid 19th-century Russia that scorned authority and tradition and believed in reason, materialism, and radical change in society and government through terrorism and assassination.
5. Psychiatry. A delusion, experienced in some mental disorders, that the world or one's mind, body, or self does not exist.
On that note, I've been into metal for some years now, and I'm still Christian, and so far the music hasn't made me question my beliefs, and most likely music will never effect my religious beliefs, whatsoever.

It depends on the type of person you are and how you look at it. As I said earlier, Nihilism is a state of extreme realism where one sees things for what they truly are.
"Surely it is an excellent plan, when you are seated before delicacies and choice foods, to impress upon your imagination that this is the dead body of a fish, that the dead body of a bird or pig; and again, that the Falernian wine is grape juice and that robe of purple a lamb's fleece dipped in shellfish's blood; and in matters of sex intercourse, that it is attrition of an entrail and a convulsive expulsion of mere mucus. Surely these are excellent imaginations, going to the heart of actual facts and penetrating them so as to see the kind of things they really are. You should adopt this practice all through your life, and where things make an impression which is very plausible, uncover their nakedness, see into their cheapness, strip off the profession on which they vaunt themselves."
- Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, VI, 13
I'm not trying to argue or anything, I just don't like people assuming that I huff glue or want to kill myself because I happen to be Nihilistic.

Fatalism is not giving a shit whether you live or die. Nihilism...fuck it, I feel no need to prove what it is or isn't. Everyone seems to have the wrong idea of what it is anyways.

Nihilism is basically that nothing matters, values don't matter, morals don't matter, etc.
Nothing matters.

I'm not going to leave, I'm going to end this pointless argument about Nihilism because it's not going anywhere. Getting back to the original subject, I don't see why Christians would be interested in metal. It's a style of music that often contains violent lyrics and anti-Christian themes.

Not necessarily. Metal may have helped shape my opinion on Christianity but it wasn't the deciding factor as to whether or not I would become an atheist.

How ironic. Listening to Slayer changed your opinions on Christianity, and Tom Araya is a Christian himself.

Hehe, it wasn't as if I heard Hell Awaits and immediately changed my mind. And yes, I do know that Tom Araya is a Catholic, and no, I don't really care.

Antaeus are a terribly atrocious band. They're like the black metal equivalent of Mortician.
