From all the bands I've seen live the two that blew me away were Alex Webster from Cannibal corpes and believe it or not and fuck you to anybody that would laugh Frank Watkins from Obituary.

Ya, sure there are better but I don't listen to cock rock. Sorry.

I have heard some musaaac from that band. They are actually pretty good. I liked it pretty decent (as we would say down in the south). I didn't pay attention to the bassist, specifically.

Les Claypool is an absolute master of the instrument, but I gotta go with Rush's Geddy Lee (I'm suprised more people didn't mention him... he's a magnificent player, hugely influential).

Um... Peter from Type O' Negative. (He has the best bass/vocals I've heard. I don't think Tom Aroa is a "great" at either. And the distorted bass kicks ass.)
Rex Brown
Alex Webster (this is why I don't use a pick)

(these aren't in any order)

All the playground objects were alive, including the swings and the merry-go-round. A silvery-blue arch of plastic color formed and collapsed in the center. A toy little boy, or maybe she was a little girl, jumped along this object, sliding down it, hanging on with small fingers, leaping into the grass. I felt a sense of responsibility begin to resonate within me, both for the knowledge of my wife and my coming child, and the deep psychedelic responsibility of my shamanic-like path. I glanced away briefly and one of the DMT beings, tall, thin and golem-like, grasped my head and turned it back to see. The shapes kept moving, and the child was my innocence too, and it was asking me to promise to share that innocence completely with our shinebelly baby when she/he births and grows and becomes human.

It would be difficult for me to narrow it down to just five. Many that I admire have already been named (DiGiorgio, Burton, Harris, etc.), so I'll throw out some others that interest me that I haven't seen anyone else mention yet (if anyone has, I just overlooked it.)

Tony Choy (Atheist, Cynic, Pestilence)
Lars K. Norberg (Spiral Architect)
Herwig Zamernik (Disharmonic Orchestra)
Ade Jackson (My Dying Bride)
Audie Pitre (Acid Bath)
John Emery (Anacrusis)
Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Fantomas)
Sean Malone (Cynic, Gordian Knot, ...)
Les Snyder (Deceased)
Blacky (Voivod)
Allen Price (dead horse)

Okay, I'm going to stop now.

Just downloaded "classical thumb" of him. I thaught my mp3-player scrathes, but it was him who slaps with unbelievable speed.

Nope. Funk started that craze. Larry from Sly and the Family Stone; and Bootsy from P. Funk (earlier from James Brown Band)

Yeah the song money kicks ass, the riff is quite easy to play, but sounds very smooth. and theres another song which has some bass grooves on, its called 'clocks' and ' Time'

I don´t know the other bassists, but these???????

Fieldy, the moron-slapper

And there´s nothing special about Sam Rivers(?). I don´t know whether that´s right, but there´s no need to know the name. There´s just one good thing about him: he plays Warwick ( i think, he plays one with the LEDs in the fretboard).

both limp bizkit and korn sucks at the bass department, sorry to break the news to you

my favorite chick bassist is P from dimension seven, her real name is Paula and she's a nice girl who told me all about the boss Odb-3 bass overdrive and the BFB-2 bass flanger, I've got her playlist hanging on my wall...

check out the photo, she also looks cute! and she plays ibanez prestige!

Sam is actually a good bassist. He doesn't just tune down and play roots. He gets funky.

He just plays some more notes than other bassists that are just bumping on the root-notes. But that isn´t funk for me. There are far better bassists than him.

But i have to apologize that this is the wrong thread. It´s about favourite and not best bassists.

He´s right. All of them are good bassists.
But look some pages before or other threads in the bass-zone. There aren´t just metal-bassists.

Who the hell is ryknow!!! *cowers in the corner, if ryknow is a popular bassisst, so he won´t be hit*

I'm sure he's good, he's been playing bass for longer than most of you kids have been alive. So shut the hell up and respect the man......you do know he sings too don't you??

Slayer is also a band that revolves around guitar work. So bass and drums are less important.

Fave bassists

Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse), Les Claypool (Primus), Ryknow (Mudvayne), dude from RATM, something Harris from Iron Maiden, the guy from Death, and I think that's about the size of it right there.

Best bassplayer is Cliff Burton, standing above everyone else. Further I'd like to mention Rex from Pantera, Marcus Miller, Nathan East. Special is Josquin des Prés, who transcribed J.S. Bach for bass-guitar. It's amazing how he plays the bass on the CD.
