Yeah Alex Webster is pretty damn good.
I think Vortex form Dimmu Borgir and Nagash (Lex Icon) Are pretty damn good bass players aswell.

Best bassists of all time thread
this is strictly your opinion but who do you think the best bassist of all time is?! No multiple answers!!!( only one person), In my opinion Jaco Pastorius is the overall best bassist of all time / he didnt slap because he didnt have to. And he had the most disciplined hands ever... chromatic fantasy anyone?

roger patterson of atheist
just got the relapse re-issue of unquestionable presence, this guy was a fantastic player, hes all over the fretboard. the re-issue has demo tracks as well as a bass and drum only track. if anybody knows where i can find out more about him please let me know. also...im sure it came off as sarcastic but once again i do apologize my ignorance on the band posts as well as the private messaging, im new to your forum and was truly unaware of these things.

you hear tony choy, bass GOD on unquestionable prescence. the bonus tracks, however are roger. roger is absolutely stunning. the rest of the band wrote their riffs around his bass lines and he was very much the reason atheist ruled so hard. he just wasnt alive for the recording of the tracks (other than the demos, which are just as good/better )
funny thing is, im listneing to this album now! weird coincidence

IMO, he is quite overratted compared to the great's - Miller, Pastorius, Wooten.. etc..
But thats just my opinion.
Chuck rainey is a good bassist to check out.

Have any of you guys bought or listened to the new album Roadrunner put out? It's called Roadrunner United: The Allstart sessions. It has a variety of artists who are or were with Roadrunner at some point in history. There is a black metal song on there called "Dawn of a Golden Age" and Sean Malone plays bass for it and his playing is excellent, top notch. Steve DiGiorgio also plays bass for a song too, I just don't remember which one. Anyways, check it out, you won't be dissapointed.

are you insane.....the couple of songd that i heard on the roadrunner site sucked big time...and the song with SDG in it....i dont think it did.coz frankly you couldnt hear the bass at all+ there were no improvisations/fills by SDG which i imo he cant do without(which makes all the songs sooooo much better)

No I'm not insane, I happen to like the songs. So what if you don't like them, there are a lot of talented musicians who played on that album. Maybe you should stop guzzling Heineken and appreciate good music when it comes to ear.

roadrunner allstars
i saw choy and digiorgio played on that and was debating picking it up, i love SDG's work on deaths "individual thought patterns", im in the process of defretting a yahama ive got to try and emulate some of the sounds these great fretless players bring to the metal genre(ryknow,SDG,jawsh from cephalic carnage). i imagine it will be quite difficult to play some of the more technical stuff on the fretless, but practice makes perfect eh?

HAH! ok
But Some guy mentioned Sam rivers-> Limp BIZKIT
Another one named Ryan-> Coal Chamber
As their favourite bassists and it really bothers me (when nu-metal is given any credit on metaltabs)
Also someone likes the bassist from nirvana.
(and all this from the first page only.....LOL)

Cliff Burton, John Myung, Alex Webster, Grutle Kjellson.
Orion is speedy as well indeed.

Dude fùck Orion. He plays with his fingers, wow, me too. But doesn't he have the guts to say "dudes, mind if I turn the bass up a little?"
On their DVD, during Chant for Eskhaton you can see/hear that his amp probably really isn't even on. It's embarassing, and he does nothing but following the guitars. Incredible.

You've got a point there. You should admit, though, his bass playing is really fast and technical.
But he just follows the guitars and the volume of it mostly is poorer than Jason's "...And Justice for All".

Jaco was one of the best bass players around, he influenced so many people, even non-bass players, his playing and technique was so beautiful, he is one of my biggest influences and i can never stop learning from him and his music.

Cheers to that buddy. I'm not a big fan of the music style, but I've heard enough from my dad playing his CD's that he was an amazing musician.
