Favorite opeth song...
Everyone loves opeth, there such a great universal metal band - whats your favorite song or album.
In my opinion the best Opeth song is Forests of October, its just so tragic sounding, that and Dirge for November.

forest of october is fucking awsome!!! its so much fun to play aswell because the guitar in it is so distinctive, and the entire Orchid album really is something awsome. Mikael Akerfeldt is my musician God. i got all Opeth albums (and damn proud of it) and i really cant pick a favourite, its just impossible, but some absoloute standouts for me is definatly The Moor, April Ethereal, Forest of October, The Drapery Falls and Nectar (being a standout track there from each album).

as far as i know Deliverance is the heavy one which is out next month i think and Damnation is the mellow one and will be released in March.
as for my fave song well Black Rose Immortal in my oppinion is the greatest song ever written!!!
I also should mention:
Demon Of The Fall
Forest Of October
The Moor
When
Nectar
The Night And The Silent Water
Blackwater Park
as being amazing songs also.

ok, let's see:
- the moor. never heard so much power combined with such a load of eerie melodies
- the drapery falls. incredible melodies
- demon of the fall
- the amen corner. the beginning is great!
- forest of october. (listen to the part at about 6.35 with only one guitar...incredible)
- prologue / april ethereal
- blackwater park. that song got me started...i use to hear it in the winter while its snowing... and i'm driving =)

Who has seen the Opeth live video Lamentations and watched the documentary on it.Well i remember them saying the album after Damnation was going to be the heaviest cd they made, what happened to that? Lets hope that the next album is as good as Moringrise.

clearly you know nothing about opeth. il let you in on a secret. they wont ever reproduce the same style of music like morningrise as long as mikel still walks this planet. otherwise you are out of place here. if you dont know something ask, dont assume its a certain way.

I am by far one of the biggest Opeth fans, in terms of their music. However, I happen to absolutely hate the first 2 albums. Most people here seems to like their early black metalish shit more than their later stuff. Ughhh

To bid you farewell and deliverance
not sure if it was already listed because I skipped over all the posts. These two songs for me are essential opeth tunes.

"When" is my favorite Opeth song. I love the mood on the whole My Arms, Your Hearse album.
The Baying of the Hounds is probably my favorite of the newer stuff. It was amazing live.

It'd be waay too hard for me to just pick one, but one of the songs that really stands out to me and I consider to be one of the most brilliant: Godhead's Lament.

I was listening to Orchid today in the car, i don't hate it, but i don't know whether its better or worse than the latest albums, all i know is that Still Life is the greatest album ever. The Moor being one of my favourite songs ever too

ummm....your the one who said you dont like still life correct? well seeing as how you said his "vocals are getting SO bad"; and yet you like ghost reveries...you really make no sense. seeing as how your background on opeth is very limited and you feel like you know everything about them just because you know the bands first names, i would suggest stop arguing with people about their opinions....hmmm yeah they are THEIR opinions. this is not a bicker contest. so go play in trafic and listen to the grand conjurfucktion

Absolute favourite would have to be Demon Of The Fall... To Rid The Disease has enormous sentimental value though. For mellow, I actually really like the closing track of Ghost Reveries - Isolation Years.

i think people who became obsessed a while back, like myself, with opeth have a harder time for accepting them for who they are now, being that they have aquired a keyboard, changed their sound immensley, etc...however, "ghost reveries" is not a bad release. and that is my sentence. fuckin HOLLA!

They have changed their style a lot, but they still kick ass. I love Ghost Reveries, even with the keyboards.

I think all the opeth albums up to ghost reveries were excellent ghost reveries just doesn't really do anything for me no matter how many times i listen to it i find it boring.
Like the grnad conjuration is incredibly forced to be 10 minutes it repeats alot and finsihes basically dead on 10 minutes you can't tell me that is just a coincidence.

GR is an awesome album...that is if you listen to the right songs...BotH, GoP, Reverie/Harlequin Forest, Isolation years, and yes TGC sucks lots and lots of balls, but im pretty comfortable to say that GR still kicks a lot of ass, i just try to ignore the songs i hate
but opeth wouldnt be opeth if they didnt have change. as far as keyboards go, theyve had them on BWP and D/D so its really nothing "new", more so just forced in certain parts of GR

I only really started paying real attention to Opeth after Ghost Reveries (and a lot of hyping by the person who later on became my BF). When I first heard The Grand Conjuration on the radio I hated it because it sounded like balls against a cheesegrater (and the radio quality sound didn't help) but when it came out it was cheap (and I had someone practically nagging me to buy it) so I bought it and I liked it and dusted off my old Opeth and started listening to them again (hooomygod so fickle and untr00). Seeing them live this Thursday woo.
Opeth have always been more concerned with pleasing themselves musically rather than pleasing anyone else, and that's why they progressed as they have, Mikael says that in some random interview I saw 4 or so months ago and explains that them being tired of Iron Maiden-ish guitar harmonies is the reason for their progression from the first two albums yadda yadda.
I'm just very curious to see what they come up with next.

I wouldn't say I love Opeth. I think they're alright. My favorite Opeth song is "Harvest".

as one of the biggest opeth fans in the forum, i feel it is my civic duty to reply. i have enjoyed every album they have ever put out, EVERY album. i adore ghost reveries, but grand conjuration does sound a little forced. the rest of the album has such a cool, unique vibe to it that none of the other album, have. in fact, no opeth album really sounds like another cept the first two, and they still have some huge difference in the overall sound. as for favorite tracks....
mellow: windowpane, weakness, credence, hours of wealth, and isolation years.
inbetween: to bid you farwell, a fair judgement, the drapery falls
heavy: serenity painted death, deliverance (first opeth song, lots of sentimental value), april ethereal, ghost of perdition, funeral portrait.

Once. Hopefully never again. I don't mind Opeth, but I used to be a fan before I saw them live. Once I saw them, I lost respect for them. Never before that show did I want to fall asleep at a metal concert, nor did I ever want the show to end early, very early, like 3 songs into the set list. If you want to see them live, buy cardboard cut outs, put them about 15 feet away, and put in one of their CDs. Pretty much the same thing.

No Opeth aren't a band to watch exactly but they are still cool and they can pull everything off live.

well, considering ive seen them live as well, i would have to disagree, they have a stage presence that makes it an amazing experience to see them live.

I haven't listened to too much Opeth. I've only got 2 of their CD's. But I would have to say Bleak is my favorite so far. I like the end with the wierd distorted sound. Kinda nice way to end it.
