I'm going to add Possessed to that list, considering the guy mainly listened to thrash, and Possessed, being the first death metal band, were heavily influences by thrash metal, of course.

For the Nile album I'd go with In Their Darkened Shrines or Annihilation of the Wicked as well. The death metal bands listed are all pretty good, unique and (relatively) easy to find so their a good place to go. Except I'd add Immolation (Close to A World Below + Unholy Cult) to the pile.

If you want melodic death, I recommend:
Amon amarth - Once sent from the golden hall
God dethroned - into the lungs of hell
And any Opeth
Other death metal:
Necrophagist, there is no way you cant like them.
Nile - in their darkened shrines
Cryptopsy - And then you'll beg (None so vile is better IMO but, beg is easier to get into)
Insision - revealed and worshipped (quite thrashy/swedish sounding DM)
If you like the tech stuff, try visceral bleeding - remnants revived
Also, check out Autopsy, the music is simple and slower, but there are some great riffs, and the vocalist sounds like hes about to eat your grandmother while fucking you in the eye. Brutal.

Carcass was one of the first metal bands I discovered after hearing one of the all-pivotal gateway bands, Slayer.
Whatever you do, don't listen to Jungle Rot 
The faster more technical bands may be too throttling if you're just getting into death metal, so download these three songs :
1. Bloodbath - Eaten
2. Morbid Angel - God Of Emptiness ( I've gotten so many people into metal from this one song )
3. Nile - Sarcophagus
Also listen to some Behemoth. Much death metal can be an acquired taste, but Behemoth have reeled a lot of people I know into listening to metal.

For melodic death metal I like Insomnium, Early Children Of Bodom, At The Gates, New Kalmah, Norther, Opeth, and Skyfire. Although most might argue that some of these mentioned are not in fact melodic "death metal" probably due to the way the vocals sound.

Fuck yes, I got one of their CD's and it rips, too bad they're not together. Excellent Danish death metal, groovy at times.
Oh yeah and MORBID MOTHERFUCKING ANGEL(both old and new, always promise quality shit with plenty of variety to keep you entertained) and modern Behemoth(any of their last 4 albums = sex).
I'm also a big fan of VADER, even if their music is often repetetive, it consistently kicks ass. Go grab De Profundis, Revelations, Black to the Blind, and The Ultimate Incantation.
And of course Decapitated, but only get Nihility and Winds of Creation. The Negation had 3 or 4 decent songs but just was the beggining of the downhill for the band. My first death metal band, actually. Deicide were one of my first too, so go grab "Legion" and "Deicide". Obituary and Possessed are a good start too, as they defined the whole fucking genre. And though not really death metal until they hit the early 90's, Napalm Death are great.
Notice a trend in the Polish death metal scene? Yeah, it always kicks ass. :P

Well I tried to keep it more related to melodic death metal where some might argue their past singer (past albums) vox's have elements of black metal. Needless to say, Swampsong and Swamplord kick way more ass than The Black Waltz IMO.

It is a lot like how i play. Except im not that good
I have strong arabian influence
HOWEVER it was kinda slow, it was awesome but a little slow
BTW don't recommend any Satanic death metal like Deicide cuz it is all BS to me
(along with all other metal lyrics )

Well I don't like gimmicky Satanic lyrics, nor the gore shit anymore either. It just gets old and has no real meaning to me. Sure Cannibal Corpse are great at what they do but I couldn't give a flying fuck about the lyrics. The only gore-themed band I still probably pay attention to is Avulsed(mainly 2 of their albums) because the lyrics are gory but always humorous.

Deicide - Deicide, Once Upon The Cross
Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness, Blessed Are The Sick (Just the fast songs, The Ancient Ones is my favorite)
Death, EVERYTHING, the older albums are more "classical death metal" and the last albums are more technical
Cannibal Corpse - Butchered At Birth, The Bleeding (I don't like the lyrics very much)
Hypocrisy - Penetralia, Obsculum Obscenum
Sepultura - Bestial Devastation, Morbid Visions. After these the band released two thrash albums,and then it began to "walk away" from metal.
Possessed - Seven Churches (first death metal record released)
None of these bands is a christian-friendly one, the one that is less ofensive is Death, but it had an inverted cross as a "T" on the logo, then it changed, but it never became a fucking christian cross. And you can judge by the cover of "Spiritual Healing" that "Death doesn't like christians", especially the ones that make money by cheating people = almost all preachers from every church.

If your goin from thrash to death metal i reccomend purchasing deicides selftitled album, since its solo's are heavily thrash influenced and on some of the songs the singing is not that far from thrash

For me it was the first three "The Haunted" albums and Salughter of the Soul by At the Gates...similar sounding bands, for obvious reasons.

Clandestine or Left Hand Path are some of the best Entombed albums, also Streetcleaner by Godflesh rules! Napalm--Harmony Corruption. As for Carcass I have Symphonies of Sickness, Necroticism and Heartwork. Great selections here indeed! |

for tech death, decapitated's first album "winds of creation" is where it is at. metal fuckin prodigies. not technical in the same sense as necrophagist, though. i think muhammad has more bells n whistles, but decapitated flows much better. |

so i listen to NIle, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Death, Hate Eternal, and Gorguts. i enjoy all the DM, but im kind of at a dead end, there are so many DM bands and i have no idea. what are some more bands that i should get if i like these bands, any comments are helpful

If you like Cannibal Corpse, try looking up Severe Torture. Theyre sort of a Corpse ripoff, but theyre good. Also check out Dying Fetus, if you havent already, theyre a must |

this all looks kind of tech except for disembowelment. anyone got some old school stuff that isn't death, MA, CC, Atheist. I like Gorguts and Nile for tech stuff but that tops it. I prefer a good groove w/ speed, rather than just speed ya know. just post more bands everyone

Whoooo!! Old school death, my favorite. Definitely check out the Florida scene, if youre into that low producion thrashy sound, which it seems like you are. This is the list of all the Florida bands Im familiar with. Check em out and I think youll find some real keepers

Dismbowlement - really really slow and ambient doom with some periods of intense speed. get Transcendance into the Peripheral [sp?]
Incantation - Decimate Christendom, death doom, with and emphasis on the death part, but the doom parts are mondo.
