yeah, but its still much too different to compare, or worse, say that he should be into power metal for liking this melodic death band. you know? not to mention, im almost positive that zionist has no interest in power metal vocals. and that is usually what will decide whether or not someone can get into it. other than the pricks who have some odd problem with melody.

more specifically, melodic death (a genre, im not sure why, YOU didnt mention). currently, and even more specifically, symphonic death. although, that specific title could be placed on skyfire, kalmah, embraced, etc. but, it seems we usually just stick with "melodic death", huh.

i dont understand peoples disliking of power metal. I mean its still great music and it is the style where most extreme metal originated from, excluding the old doom bands.

Because...people don't enjoy how it sounds?
Just because music you like comes from a different style...doesn't mean you have to like the originating style...
I fucking hate rock'n'roll.

i dont know, i just think that roots are a good thing, i mean most modern metal bands are heavily influenced by the originators and i hate it when people say that certain bands are really original when it has already been done about 25 years ago.

First Wave: Black Sabbath, although I probably listen to Zeppelin more frequently.
NWOBHM: Iron Maiden.
Thrash: Coroner, at the moment. This one is the hardest to choose from, and my opinion changes frequently.
Death: Morbid Angel.
Black: Emperor.
Power: Pantera (PUSSY TIME 2NITE! 88)
Prog: Fates Warning.
Those are my categories, those are my bands. Pretty short compared to my normal lists.

A few contradictions in your post.
Tech Metal: Opeth - Opeth is prog metal.
Power Metal: Nevermore Nevermore is also considered prog but I get where you're coming from.
Not trying to bash you mate but just correct you.

Thrash Metal: Coroner, Kreator, Destruction
Nu-Metal: first System Of A Down album, Static X's remix album [need I even tell you what my opinion on all other nu-metal is?]
Death Metal: old Suffocation, Immolation - Dawn Of Possession, old Cryptopsy
Black Metal: Celtic Frost, Emperor, old Arcturus, Nokturnal Mortum - Goat Horns, Bathory - Under The Sign Of The Black Mark
Industrial/Weird/Symphonic Black Metal: Tartaros, Mysticum, 3
Melodic Death Metal: Prophanity
Power Metal: first Helloween album
Prog Metal: Crystal Age, Cynic, Atheist
Doom Metal: Dusk [USA], Divine Eve, Mythic, Disembowelment, first Katatonia album (real doom not that gothicized crap people pass off as doom nowadays)
Tech Metal: fuck the term "technical", you're talking about music, not rebuilding small block engines
Folk/Epic/Viking Metal: Summoning - Stronghold
Grindcore: old Extreme Noise Terror (before they went DM), old Brutal Truth
Industrial Metal: Godflesh
Grunge: Skin Yard, AIC, Nirvana - Bleach, old Soundgarden.

Venom is not death metal. Testament & Danzig are not black metal. And Overkill definetly is NOT power metal.
