On their newest album, he has done the act of basically making his band sound like Atreyu. This is known as selling out, since there are a ton of bands today doing this, because it is quite popular in the mainstream minds of music. Don't tell me he didn't sell out, listen to the title track and tell me that does not sound like Atreyu. I mean, you got the chugs and the dischords. Nice way to fuck over a pretty cool band, Alexi. If you want to get some good sweeps play some Lumis's and COB's stuff and in the beginning I would advice you to lower the speed
Improuves sweep and technique like hell
Well I guess that shit would take couple of weeks to figure out and practice on it every day but it would worth it though most important is to build your tech step by step

I have a friend who has been playing about 6 years and looves shred, he could play that without much trouble, maybe not as clean as Iron Maiden guy though.

theres moer in life than just playing sweeps at a fast speed, i mean, a few sweeops dont make a good guitarplayer, or good music
thats what i think of it though, i can pull some pretty fast sweeps etc, and its nice but for some reason 20 fast sweeps in a row doesnt do me anything (talking bout the vid) yeah its kinda technical and stuff, id rather hear a REAL solo witch more than 1 technique init, and some good comcposition,
on the other hand the guy has some sweeping skills.
EDIT: but his shitty tone screws it up

That wasn't too bad, but it wasn't that good. There's a lot more to playing appregios than blind repetative pattern exercises that make the guitar sound like it's throwing up. It pretty much becomes muscle memory after a while.
I started practicing sweeps a very long time ago, and for about 6 years, I played a certain sequence VERY SLOWLY AND CLEARLY to imbedd all of the patterns into muscle memory. Then I started to do different stuff with the patterns, and that's when it really started to sound cool (ex. playing downward three notes a time, starting the next sequence on the next successive note, or triple picking each note, a la "appreggios from hell" by Yngwie).
When we see or hear stuff like this, it sounds very predictable. We know the patterns ourselves, so we know with the timing what the basic drills are going to sound like. But imagine switching it up and playing the shapes with a more undefined (but thoughtful) pattern. I will really add a lot of tonal unpredictability leaving you wondering where it's going next, instead of sonically just knowing and agreeing.
