As far as black metal goes, I'd say the one's nearly everyone knows. Mayhem and Darkthrone. There are different types of BM so it really depends on what you're listening to.

With black metal, I think I should try some out. I've never really heard any I don't think. I mean, I'm sure I have, but not on purpose. Don't most BM bands have high and scratchy vocalists, though? I hate that. I gotta have my fix, man. Gotta have it low and brutal.

Alright, I only thought it was a "Black Metal only" show becase I was told that by some guy in my school, so I was assuming he was right. I never knew that all those other bands were playing, he told me it was bands playing were Old Man's Child (which i already doubted, because Galder doesnt even have a real band), Dimmu Borgir, and Immortal. Not only that, but I like Bathory's first four albums as well as Mayhem's "De Mysteriis..." It doesn't matter, though, because I'm talking about black metal as a whole. Emperor's mightiness simply doesn't reverse the extreme fagitude of the rest of the genre, even as godly as Isahn was. For what it's worth, not only do I prefer Emperor to every other black metal band put together, I prefer them to most death and thrash bands as well. They were just amazing, absolutely terrific stuff.

Hell yah I totally agree, who cares if you don't like black metal, the only people who care are those who already don't like it, so it's not like your opinion really matters. As if calling black metal (BM) fans stupid would suddenly make them ALL idiots, or for some reason prove that they are all idiots. Now you can you can go and say that BM fans are all dumb, and the fact they like it proves such, but if you do you're looking like an arrogant asshole. I think Darkthrone and Buruzm are my favorites right now, graveland and emperor trailing a close 3rd and 4th. I love darkthrone for that utter...darkness(I had to say it). Burzum, well that band just made some really great tunes that I still listen to. Most BM bands I don't listen to that much, but those four...all the time.

The fact is, I didn't insult black metal, i merely stated some facts, using some adjectives that - although may be a little extreme given the circumstances, convey my general impression that I get from the genera.

I would also like to point out all the people that are going from black metal bands to death metal bands. Examples include
Emperor => Zyklon
Immortal => Grimfist
Also look as Satyricon's efforts on "Volcano". How anybody could remotely consider that to be black metal is beyond me.

Now this can be taken from several different perspctives.
1) Said bands have members that 'grew up'
2) Said members realised that black metal is no longer popular and have moved into a genera that is once again the most popular form of metal. If the latter is the case, then they are fairly shallow.

Now in relation to my opinion as far as black metal goes, I do not like their rampant eletism, or homosexual behavior that they employ. Anybody that roams around the forest wearing paint and leather claiming they are evil must lack some chemical in their brain. I have nothing against them as people if they don't do this, but their eletist attitude towards music being true and kvlt also anoys me.

I do not mind it when they play semi serios music though. Recently I listened to a 'Fintroll' song and discovered that it wasn't really all that bad, though it didn't grab me quite enough to warrant further investigation. Another 'black metal' band that I have hered a song of that has cought my attention as not being utter shit is 'Barathrum'. Though some further investigation into them revealed that they revel in the homosexual antics mensioned above.

As far as you liking black metal, I have nothing against this, and have never insulted a person based on their musical tastes. If you noticed, I always insult the genera of black metal based upon their antics, as well as their inability to make a song that is much more than playing about 6 notes throughout the song and singing about how evil they are, or how jesus is a sinner or other such unwavering topics. Alot of death metal fans are sick of Deicide for having done this non stop for 15 years, I have read people saying things like "Alright Glen, we get it, you hate god. Now its time to move on". Where as black metal is a whole genera of similar songs to this end.

On the note of boredom, i will briefly mension my opinion of Christian and his band Burzum. Specifically on how several of their songs consist of 6 or 7 minutes of the same 30 seconds of music. While listening to said music I was enjoying it, for the first minute or two, then I actively stopped what I was doing, and fast forwarded the song, hoping for something different, not achieving my goal I gave up, and tossed that band into my mental 'shit-bin'. Continuing the topic of boredom, i will be most supprised if you actually read all this shit.

Now as far as band recomendations, some that i hear are decent that come from Australia are:

- Gospel of Horns
- Astriaal
- Atomizer

The reason black metal gets such a strong, and lately universal, negative reaction is because its fans are more pretentious, elitist, and in love with themselves than jazz fans, film majors, po-mo lovers, hippies, Harvard professors, Objectivists, neo-futurists, and myself, combined. Aside from its fans, there's no reason to despise it; there's a reason to dislike it (it's terrible), but to despise it? Hell no; there's plenty of terrible music out there, and most of us ignore it, or should. If the fans of this specific subgenre didn't continuously rave about how superior they are to everyone for identifying with the work of other people, people more talented than themselves (since they are all essentially untalented), and think about their own superiority so much they wrote overlong tracts about it, nobody would care. Of course, the fact that nobody would care probably prompts these tracts, since nobody who claims to disdain the mainstream would care to do so without first attracting their attention and annoying them.

But seriously, do you see essays about why liking thrash or death makes you a more advanced person philosophically, and overall a more worthwhile ubermensch? Yes, but only by black metal fans redacting history to invent a sociological survey of the metal scene. No other scene's (deny it all you like, you're a part of one) fans are so obnoxious, and no other scene earns such contempt among its peers. Black metal is to music what Objectivism is the philosophy, or literature; and that is bigoted, stupid, self-important, and shockingly seductive to dumbasses. If you like the music, then fantastic for you, I really don't care, but cut all the other shit out. Liking a guy who screams high doesn't make you any better than the people who like a guy who screams low, or vice versa, and the sooner you realize that the less of a misguided, self-deluded, solipsistic dumbass you'll become.

1. It's incredibly easy. I really don't see why you don't, if the music's the only thing that matters. Something can be good even if ridiculous people make it.
2. So many of the genre's fans focus on those very same aspects as positives, ignoring the music.

Like I've said, as far as music goes I'd be happy to ignore it. It's just that so many fans are self-righteous, elitist twats who use it as a pretext for pretension. I would love it if black metal would realize its role as a simply musical phenomenon; then I could just ignore it the same way I ignore everything else I don't like. The music leaves me indifferent; I listen to it and then switch to something else to cleanse my palate after an aesthetically displeasing experience. As for the lyrics: lyrics are part and parcel with music. A song's lyrics are still part of the song and are thus a musical aspect and can be made fun of for that reason. Especially since most black metal artists seem to have a conception of creating a total artistic unity between the two.

Finally: most of us don't agree with what you consider a good riff or particularly like an atmospheric synth passage, but that's beside the point. Most of the laughable black metal doesn't seem to be your cup of tea either, according to posts you've made in the past; you're confusing a particular part of a subgenre (the only part you seem to like) with the whole. So shut it.
