You're really going to hate hearing this ... I've been playing for nearly five months. You can go to the "Riffs and Recordings" thread to hear me, and you can certainly hear my inexperience. Maybe I'll post recordings of myself playing Cannibal Corpse songs, but that entails hauling my PC tower into another room just to give it internet access.
For about 2 years, I had an SG lying around, and maybe 30 minutes a week I would sit and strum chords ... but it never went beyond anything other than a showpiece to decorate a room. Around December, I had some mystical experiences in which instructions to practice the guitar 8-11 hours a day were contained, using select practice methods available only to I.

Metallica - One
Pantera - Mouth For War, not the solo
The Doors - People Are Strange
Super Mario Bros theme almost
Dimmuborgir - Metal Heart, not the sweeping part in the solo thoug.

I dare say I have it down perfectly ... my expedenture was made possible by
Mountain Dew. There's several riffs before that "weird one", the Meshuggah-like intro riff, the minor thirds, the slide riff ( F to F# to low D ), then there's
-------------------------------------------------Ab-B-Ab--Ab-------
--------B-D-B---B-------------D-F-D-B-D-B---B----------F---D-F----
--F-Ab-------Ab--Ab-F-Ab--*--------------Ab-----------------------
This is that really "weird" riff in its entirety. The * signifies the fourth measure, where you hear this long extension of the original motif ( damn my lack of music theory knowledge ).
( I tabbed it out with note names because as some of you know, I have a "weird" tuning )
If you need any of the other riffs, don't hesitate to ask.
I think Atifman has a tab on this song, I imagine he was accurate.

On a scale of 1-5, where is that song's difficulty located between "Hammer Smashed Face" and "Frantic Disembowelment" ?

Im learning Concerto by Cacophony now, the only parts I definately cant do is the shredding in the beginning, and there is some real fast shredding about 3/4 of the way through. The first time I tried to learn any Cacophony was with the song Speed Metal Symphony, and I was like no way in hell, not going to happen. But Concerto is much easier than Sms, probably the easiest on that album, but still a great challenge for me

Yeah, I tried to learn Concerto once and as I started out, I said to myself "Hey this can't be that hard." and then like at 00:21 seconds, Jason like starts shredding at like a million mph so I just quit . I'm trying to learn Pantera's Cowboys from Hell.

^ Hahaha yes thats the first fast part I was talking about, he starts with those sweeps, and shreds real real fast. His guitar playing makes me feel imcomplete as a musician

I use a different fingering for that part, if you don't like stretching it's much easier. I'll see if I can dig it up
-------------------------------------------------
-1-4-1---------1---------------------------------
-------2-1-2-2---2---------1---------------------
-------------------3-2-3-3---3---------2---------

Less stretching but more string skipping, try it.

Haha yep
For some reason I still find that intro 3-note sweeping part of Lucretia very difficult, I learned it about 6 months ago, and I still cant play it very well. Any suggestions?

Jason Becker is just not my style, but my Brother can play his songs very well, he was learning "Altitudes" by JB, and seems that he can play now, i dunno, but hes almost playin' the entire song, my Brother kickass on guitar, and hes just 16, hes a big Shredder...trust me.

I'm currently aboput to start on the solo from Watchtower - "The Eldritch" since I've just polished up teh song, so much fun to play. And thoes arpeggios in the are simple as fuck (if your barring technique is up to par) yet they sound so fucking cool.
Ron Jarzombek is an asshole this solo is fucking wierd.

I'm going to start learning foul body autopsy soon (after my exams). It will take me ages to learn, but it's about time I really started pushing myself. The speed isn't stupid so it's achievable for me. Some hard stretching though.

With this and "Frantic Disembowelment", I think I'll have a very solid repetoire for auditioning.

I just got done with all of the riffs from "Pierced From Within" by Suffocation, and am now working on the solos. But it's funny because i have only have me to play guitar with and there are 2 different guitarists playing solos in it so i just combine them I have completed "One Shot, One Kill" but the only part that gives me a little trouble is the final descending run. Also "Vengenace Unleashed" by Dying Fetus as well. Now im trying to learn "Seven" or "Stabwound" from Necrophagist. But i'm also trying to get away from learning other people's stuff (although it is fun and cool to play) i need to get in the habit of making up my own shit.

this is more of a question about a song im learning next.
its steve vai - for the love of god (that song rules)
the thing is its been tabbed on a 7-string but in the whole song
theres only one bar where there's a slide on the B string.
E--------------------------------------
B--------------------------------------
G--11----------------------------------
D------12------------------------------
A----------12--------------------------
E---------------14s12-10---------------
B--------------------------12s3---------
what i cant understand is why do a whole song on a seven string
when all your gonna do is slide on the 12th fret

Angel of Death- Slayer
A bit dissapointing, by the end it seemed the Solo formula was getting a tad repetitive. Still fun as hell though to rip up though.
Follow the reaper- working on the solo.
i also have tabs for marcel Coenens Race against time...muhahaha... i'll get to them. Eventually.
