Recently Conquered
What song/songs have you just recently finished learning or perfecting?
For me it is the fingerpicking on Jason Becker's "air"

Man, that would be a daunting task eh? Is Mable's Fatal Fable that hard? I've heard it tons of times, I'd just like to try it some time.

Well obviously its not easy. But there isnt nearly as much to remember as many otehr Becker songs. The main theme is very easy if you have good alternate picking mechanics. The hardest part is after the intro solo, there are these arpeggios with slides in them, kind of hard to get the feeling for them.
I'm thinking of attemting taht because I'm bored with almost everythign else, nothing really inspires me to pick up my guitar and say "Oh my god I have to learn that."

I'm constantly trying to perfect Master of Puppets. I think I hit it finally for once yesterday. Wish I had one of those Boss Phrase Samplers or Electro Harmonix or something. Then I could really say I have perfected it.

I recently learned all but one riff off Opeth - the drapery falls.
Its not that hard, but so awesome to play

I was just at a mate's house, having a rather large jam. With me on guitar and him on drums, we managed to get 'We Bleed', 'Cold Hate, Warm Blood' (Cryptopsy) and 'Masturbating The War God' (Nile) down pretty precisely. No, he can't quite do those Cryptopsy gravity blasts, but he's pretty damn close.

Great thread! For me - Necrophagist-Stabwound, not exactly conquered, but learned mostly all of Muhammed's part (except solos of course, but his rhythm section is much harder that Christian's)

Mainly Unearth, like Black Hearts Now Reign and most of Zombie Autopilot, I played Buz's parts.. so that means most leads.

I'm not the greatest musician ever, but I have the ability to play/write some pretty difficult shit. The stupid thing is, I don't put that ability to the test. If I know it, I know it. But I never strive to learn anything new (well, hardly ever). I usually don't even play other people's songs--I just do my own. But hell, no matter how hard I try I will never beat Ygnie Malmsteen or whatever that fuckers name is. And I've never learned a solo by heart--I always "ad lib" my solos if I have any. I try to conquer whatever pops into my head.

OMG just about the whole album is a bitch to play. I have been working on 'Good Morning, Black Friday' for years. There are no tabed leads for that song anywhere and I'll be damned if I could do it.

You gotta search more, I've seen coupla tabs for that song. I think the Rust in Peace album is much harder to play than anything on Peace Sells...

Malmsteen is simply a gay pirate who can do 3 strings arpeggios.
Spiral Architect and Spastic Ink, good stuff. I've been meaning to get around to learning "Fountain Head" and "Aquanet".

True, but it is good to learn his material, and then use those three string arpeggios in more tasteful ways than he can.

You talking about Good Mourning or Wake Up Dead? I use Guitar pro to learn most of the songs I wanna learn, so I can get like helluva lot of tabs I want. Most of 'em are mostly correct, and so it's useful having that program.

I got PT and yes, Good Mourning is the song. Like I said. I have looked for hours for that songs complete and correct leads. As far as I know, Mustaine and Poland are the only 2 people that actually know how to play it right and they never tabed it. I think I might be the only person in the world that wants the song and can't tab it myself. It is a real bitch.
Fucking Poland and Mustaine Damn you both!

hooray, this song never uses the open string on the D string, so I can play it tuned to Eb.

Adagio in G minor by ear, off that G3:live denver.. what a waste of money. that ending, i dont see why satch and vai tryed to match malmsteens speed.
but satch won the mini duel. malmsteen raped the harmonic minor mode, it almost made me rip my hair out .

Its only been about 2 months since ive really started learning properly and pracing. I just nailed Metallicas - Seek and Destroy. I know it seems like nothing much to you guys. I got everything but the solo down in just 1 night. Last night. My fingers are sore as fuck. I wanna start learning the basics of alot of songs so i can practice alot more things when i sit down to play. and not just the 5 or 6 riffs of songs i know.

If you've nailed that and only been playing for 2 months, then I'm impressed. Next time make sure that your fingers bleed...

play the blues scale over and over just move the root note around too. play it in the dark, same with trills and other stuff, to get ur ears warmed up, for later and ur fingers wont kill so much. when i first started out i played till my fingers bleed. kids at school laughed at me but i told them to fuck off.now im one of the most popular kids in school, and if ur a dude then the ladies like fast fingers(lol). keep playing old metallica(when cliff was still there and, and justice for all), cuz thats when they were good.dont play any black album stuff cuz its too weak. after going on with metallica for a lil. buy a Cd called G3 or some joe satriani/steve vai/dream theater/malmsteen(to be amazed, how much he rapes harmonic minor, but i respect him cuz im not that good yet)/jason becker/vinnie moore and thats about it.
so keep on going. make ur self a gole then set it higher. just keep practicing

April 13 - 2005
Bloodbath - "Eaten" ( if anyone has the solos, please e-mail them to me, or something )
Pig Destroyer - "Pretty In Casts", "Terrifyer", "Piss Angel".
Slayer - "Disciple". Complete with the maniacal, haphazard, hellacious and hopelessly random guitar solo.
Amon Amarth - "God, His Son, and Holy Whore".
Now to reward myself I'm going to head to the store to get 2 litre mountain dews on sale for 89 cents ( if you play metal then this drink is seconday only to hard liquor ).
I'm going to begin deciphering Decapitated and Necrophagist. I feel that I'm ready for it.

BLS - Stoned and Drunk
Took me about 30 mins, but I can't seem to find the solo anywhere.
Edit: Found the solo, I'll get on it tomorrow!

"Angel Of Death", "Jesus Saves", "Raining Blood" - Slayer ( I'm working on the whole Reign In Blood album. )
Half of Yngwie Malmsteen's "Blitzkrieg", by ear.
"The Pentecostal", Deicide.
"New Millenium Cyanide Christ", Meshuggah. The solo is going to take a while, obviously.
A few Decapitated riffs.

Morbid Angel - Pain Divine
This song is pretty easy but the solo is a little tough..You have to use the whammy part on some parts really fast.

Well, I know a bunch of random riffs, bu those hardly require much effort or time to get down...Well, i guess Bed of Razors is really the only song that i have down. ^ superb tabbings on that song by the way, Young guitarist.
But i think i'll start Hallowed be thy name or some more COB stuff. Challenging to players like myself at a more, uh, "entry" level. (Pssst, that means i suck bad.) Still satisfying though.
Or maybe Crystal Planet, that song is catchy as hell. First i thought it might be too hard, And then i heard Air. So, i thought What the hell, Why not?

"Frantic Disembowlment" - Cannibal Corpse.
"Cyberwaste" - Fear Factory. There seems to be what sounds like 32nd notes at 120 or so beats per minute in this song. Very hard to hit. EDIT : this song is actually harder to play all the way through than "Frantic Disembowelment".

Picking sixteenth notes of the chromatic scale at 230 beats per minute. With my wrist.
Because before I was playing just with my forearm, and I'm making the necessary transition to using my wrist.
Fear Factory's "Demanufacture" ( and I used to think Dino was a terrible guitar player for being in a 'nu-metal' group )

lol, i got ecnomoy picking down, it comes natural, most people go with economy cause its easy, just if your going to a higher string down pick it or vice versa. Strict Alternate picking is what people slave for, its hard to strict alternate every note, john petrucci always strict alternate picks, even his arpeggios, he can strict alternate a whole arpeggio as fast as most people can sweep it (or economy pick)

Petrucci is machine-like in his precision.
I just read the "Technique From Hell" article in your sig : Have you composed that powertab file yet?
And by any chance was I the good member who posted an excercise about sixteenth notes ?

Cannibal Corpse - "Psychotic Precision".
After "Frantic Disembowelment" this song was unusually easy. I met someone the other day who told me that after having learned Disembowelment, the rest of Cannibal Corpse's catalogue should be fairly easy.
So what are Decapitated, Cryptopsy's, Necrophagist, Deicides, most difficult songs ? I'm sure I'm forgetting other bands that are equally as virtuosic, but I want to learn their hardest songs first and then devour the rest of their catalogue.
