At the moment I have to, they're the only speakers I have at hand. I sacrificed my solid-state combo for this head ( which in the long run, will certainly be worth it ). Those are my dad's bass cabinets, and he just stores them in my room. True, the sound is'nt exactly pristine, but it is only a matter of time before I can get a 2x12/1x15 guitar cab from Avatar.

Because it does'nt have a 15 inch

I plan to eventually have a 4x12 and a 2x12/1x15 rig.

Extended bottom end without muddiness, basically.

rivera lobottom sub cab... it's self powered too... it's made specifically for lows.

or..

this seems to be exactly what you want

though, with a 5150 II and a good 4x12 you shouldnt have any problems getting great low end.

That sounds like a nice offer, and I might have to take you up on that : but however, I know nothing about ohms. I'll have to read about it.

I know who Mr. George Ohm is, the 18th century physicist ( I'm railing this off the top of my head ) who made important contributions to the study of electricity and the field of acoustics and mathematics in general, and that the ohm has become a standard measurement of electrical current in honor of his discovery. But as I've stated before, I'm very new to amplifier/speaker electronics, and how ohms might relate to said equipment. So I think my inquisitive nature is very well in order.

Please stop being an instigator.

im not being an instigator, im being an asshole

anyways i found a site way back that talked about OHMS

i dont remember much except it having to with resistance
the less ohms the less resistance and more volume you have

i'm bringing this old thread back cuz i didn't want to create a new one just for my rig.

heres an update of what i'm running.

the guitar that is now my main axe is a parker fly deluxe. in a sexy dark green color. this guitar is about 10-11 years old and lived most of it's life in a gigbag. it plays perfect, stay in tune really well, and sounds killer.

honest to god i've never played a guitar i've liked more all around. from jazz to grindcore, this is the axe.

at first it sounded really thin and had a high pitch noise... so i popped in a fresh 9v battery, and changed the strings from the .09's to some ernie ball "not even slinky's"(12-56). this thing is insane. the feel changed so much when i switched strings. even with those thick suckers tuned up to E they don't feel to tight and down to drop C - B- ish they arent flubby.

the pickups are custom dimarzios. based off of the tonezone for the bridge and then i believe(or at least sounds like) a PAF in the neck. but i think there is some kind of booster because that battery really brought these things to life. and helps give more of a tight/higher output to them, to balance for the thin body. but still maintains the warmth of passives in a good ol' wooden guitar.

i'd challenge a gibby any day in sustain... it'd be a close match.

THE AMP

voodoo hex modded/point to point rebuilt sovtek mig 100.

one channel, no fx loop, no bullshit. just straight up tone.

the cab is just my trusty vintage crate GC-412TS(guitar cabinet, 4 12 inch speakers, tall, slant) that i've had loaded with two vintage 30's and two g12t-75's.

------accessories------

i have a little off brand 2 space rack i'm using to hold my furman PL tuner(standard PL series power conditioner with a built on chromatic tuner) and then i have my boss ns-2 held in the back with velcro.
i also hold all my cords in the rack for transportation.

i'm also outfitting my rg570 with an emg-81/85 set. we'll see how long that lasts.

and selling my pgm30

are you using the g major to do channel switching on the 5150 via midi?

Sorry for not posting any pictures, but i was away from my rehearse room, and couldn't take the pictures, hopefully by tomorrow i will have some.

xdislexicx that is a great comment, because i haven't figure that one out, i don't know how to switch the channels via the g major midi, i have to switch the channel using the 5150 footswitch. Do you know how to change channels via midi??

You need a special cable ordered from JerryP http://www.fjamods.com/Cable.html

well, i know the g major does it, i just didn't know if you were taking advantage of that feature... you're going to need the right kind of cable running from the g major to the 5150's footswitch jack. as bls stated, someone like jerryp could probably hook you up as he's really familiar with 5150's and other stuff.

if i were you i'd shoot an e-mail over to t.c. electronic's and or peavey asking them how to make it work... also if you have the instruction manual for the g major.

it's worth it though... once you get everything switching midi, it's alot less tapdancing.

My friend has that very same Schecter with the stock Seymour Duncan pickups. Jeezus does it sound and play nice. Replacing them with EMG's doesn't sound like a good deal to me, but to each is own...

WOW great comments xdislexicx and BLS!!!!!!

I'm really interested in the cable from jerry, so all i have to do is buy the cable and then configure the gmajor to do the channel switching via midi, right??

And sorry for not posting any pictures, but i have been really busy at work, and this is the only time i'm here at home, i arrive from work at this hour, so i have no chance to go to the rehearse room. Hopefully tomorrow.

1. No, the guitar is not scalloped, is the light that seems that way.

2. The maximizer is a great improvement to your sound, you should definetly get one if you have the chance, the model it really doesn't matter, all maximizers sound the same, the only difference is having a mono or stereo maximizer (1 channel or 2 channels).

3. The G-Major is a effects processor, it doesn't have any pre-amp or distortions, so for people like me who uses a head for his primary distortion, this unit is the best, because it doesn't mess with your distortion, just enhances it with clear sounding effects.

i wouldnt say the g major is anywhere near "the best".

they're great units... but if you've ever played a tc g force, or eventide unit... you would laugh at the g major.

But this is the BEST processor unit without preamp or distortions, the g-force has distortions and it costs 1000 dlls more, so obviously is better in performance.

the g force does offer gain stages as fx, but even still... i would not consider the g-major to be "the best" processor unit without preamping or distortions. i could name many units in it's price range that can rival it... like about half a dozen rocktron units, a couple boss and lexicon units. ect...

but tc aswell as alot of other manufacturers also make a number of high end studio/instrument processors.

if you want what imho is THE BEST processor unit for a guitar rig... the eventide ecplipse is the one. but have fun saving up for that shit.. and from there you need to have a masters in bio-chemical engineering to figure that fucker out.

haha...

ok so some dude offered me a bunch of shit for my triamp... a pair of emgs(81/85), a rivera trb-1m, a big 12 space rack case, AND several hundred bucks. SUCKER!

so the money went towards my parker fly deluxe, the 12 space rack has my PA shit in it... the emgs are in my ibanez rg570... and i traded some bro the rivera straight up for a voodoo modded/rebuilt sovtek mig 100.

in the mean time i also purchased a mint condition splawn pro-mod 100, the newer dual eq model, with the jj kt-88 upgrade.

and now i traded some dude the voodoo modded mig 100 for his engl straight 100.

so i have a splawn promod 100 and an engl straight 100.

so far the splawn is sticking around for sure... the engl is undecided.

A stock MIG 100? That's hardly worth $600, more like $150-200.

I'd get a new set of pickups for your guitar first, then a better amp/effects unit

any ideas what amps/effects can produce the rich and resonant yet fairly raw sound of einherjer's demo? (a more well known album with a simular guitar sound would be dimmu's stormblast)

Fucking hell, that's overpriced for a bunch of cheap Russian parts. I'm sure MIG 100's go for around £200 in England, so I assumed they go for $200 over in the US. MIG's go for even lower than $200 in Russia. Oh well, my bad.

Yeah I know, my bad. I was talking out of my ass there. I still think $600 is way too expensive for a MIG though.
