The LA series is solid state. SWR dosent make any all tube amps, but they make a few hybrids. And the Aural Enhancer has nothing to do with making the amp sound like a tube amp. Its basically a knob that boosts your highs and lows, so it kind of gives a scooped tone.

Lol, well thats the thing, it dosent sound like tubes. Tubes, generally, are known for being warm sounding, especially in the midrange. What the Aural Enhancer on most SWR amps does isnt condusive to the sound of tubes at all.
Ive owned two all tube bass amps and ive owned the SWR SM-900 so im quite familiar with the subject.

Here is all my shit...

That's a 1974 Ampeg SVT 300 Watt tube head with a Fender Bassman Cabinet - 2-10" and an 18" EV. I'm playing a warmoth jazz - I posted a while back on how I finished it.
Anyone know the possible year for that Fender cab? I bought it used in 1992.

Behringer Ultrabass BX1200
Practice amp: Dean Markley K-15x
Yeah, shut up, I know it sucks. I'm in desperate need of a better rig. I've been playing for 4 years and this shit just ain't cutting it anymore.
And the behringer isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be, I just think it could be better. How good are Hartke bass amps?

Well, it's a second-hand instrument, and it came wíth the stickers.
Oh, and it's a Washburn XB100.
So yes, cheap model. But good enough for me.

I used to have Slayer, Misfits, Danzig, ect. stickers all over my bass..didn't last that long. Now I have electrical tape that's been on there for about 4 years.

I dont really see how it degrades anything.
unless its a custom vigier or lakland or something.
or if its a wood grain finish.
but I really dont see anything wrong with putting stuff on a flat color glossed instrument.
as long as you play good who gives a shit.

Yeah the Gary Willis signature sounds great, im not too fond of the swamp ash body, but congrats!
sixsicsix.. the 'shit' between the pickup and neck is called a Ramp.. the purpose of the ramp is explained here.. http://www.garywillis.com/pages/bas...al/theramp.html

thats awesome.
I actually kind of want one now.
I wouldnt get it in a matching wood though.
IMO it would look alot better made of just carbon fiber, or some other black synthetic.

I have a ramp on my dingwall, and i love it. I highly recomend anyone curious about ramps to try it out. I also added a D-Tuner to the B string. The low A sounds deadly through my rig.

I did something similar with my six, I made a nice chunk of Cocobolo to fit between the pickups.

Just sold my Thumb for 1400, need start looking for another 4-string.
I've never seen a four string Euro made Spector in Finland, I just wish I could find the LX-4 as used somewhere.

Thanks, but no thanks
Couldnt find a single bass I'd be interested in. The prices were pretty high too. I hope you also know what shipping would cost to here + the taxes I'd have to pay?

Ah yeah, should've been more accurate. I couldnt really find any bass for the price range I have currently. If I could get a MTD or Fodera for 1000, I'd buy it without even testing it out first. This is what I was mainly after

If youre gonna go big with a cab and head set up, then go fucking big.
Decent cab, tube head or good SS.

The New Rig...So Far...
After WAY too long with that Ampeg head, and all the associated problems I was having with it, I bought an SWR 750X head, and it KICKS SERIOUS ASS!!!! I currently run it through 2 Yorkville 4x10 cabs, but would like to upgrade them soon...
I'm thinking of getting a good 1x18 cab (not sure what make yet) and a better 4x10, but I must say, the Yorkie's are holding their own!!!!
Cheers.

These basses surprise me too, I was playing a 200$ Ibanez and I thought
it was much better than the 850$ Spector next door

I've played guitar for a fairly long time, and got into bass about a year ago now I guess... been taking it more seriously than guitar since the start of this year and love it.
So far this is my set-up:
Epiphone Explorer bass (no complaints here, I have friends with Warwicks who love this bass)
Elixer strings (those nanoweb things, definitely get them again)
Zoom B2.1u pedal (all I really use on this is the tuner and a bit of compression, I guess after my new amp arrives I will only use the tuner haha. Effects are fun to play around with, but that's about all)
Samick BA10 amp (this thing is terrible, it sounds like you have overdrive on if the volume is raised above 2 or 3. It is very old and beaten around though).
And about 3 weeks ago I ordered a 350watt Hartke head and a 4x10 Hartke XL cab with a horn. Every day that goes by I go a little more insane knowing that this is in a crate somewhere and I'm playing through a 10watt Samick.

I just couldnt stop saying 'mmmmmmmm-M' at those pics.
What the fuck is wrong with me.
So anyway, I'm awaiting my Washburn XB125, anyone got experience with it?
I already have a Washburn XB100 and it's a fucken tànk man. It fell down stairs, against stairs, from a stage, and in more than a year that I've owned it I had to go repair it, NOT ONCE. Not even a fucked input or something, nùffin. Awesome.
So, XB125 experience anyone?

My rig is shit, so I thought I'd post my old mans bass as some people in the bass section mentioned that they would like to see photos when I described it. 1976 Fender Precision 5-string fretless, maple neck, swamp ash body. He's given it a few modifications over the years :
- Converted it to a 5-string himself a ten years after he bought it. Added an extra tuning peg, new bridge, new nut and 2 more string trees.
- Changed the stock pickups to DiMarzio in 1987 then changed them to Bartolini's (active) which are still in there and sound fucking awesome.
- Changed the pickguard more times than he probably even remembers.
- Added two thumbrests.
- Added a toggle switch.
- And an LED light to remind him to unplug during breaks as not to run the active battery down.
Photo 1
Photo 2
Beautiful thing, fucking heavy too

That is a fine looking instrument. The lack of frets looks so good on the maple fretboard and with the sunburst, imo at least. A lot of people I know don't like the look of maple fretboards but they're the best looking to me. And say, that's a crafty maneuver to convert a 4 string to a 5. Your pops should be proud to own it.
I'm probably gonna be buying my friend's bass this weekend. It's by a brand called Douglas and it's a 6-string. I had never heard of Douglas until I saw this bass but the thing's built like a tank and he only wants $60. So there's really no going wrong, especially for a first bass.

Thanks man, and yeah he is really proud to own it. He has owned about 8 basses including this one and still thinks that none of them sound as good as this one. He even owned a fretless Rickenbacker and said it doesn't even come close to this thing.

Indeed it is, if you're talking about the Kubicki. How in the hell did you afford that epitaph? Did you rob a bank?

I bought it second hand through ebay, from a guy in Italy.
The electronics went down after I had played for 30mins, I'm sending the pre-amp and pick-ups back to Phil tomorrow and he's most likely able to fix it.
I scraped down enough funds for the next bass.. I'm keeping an eye out for a 5-string Status S2 Classic currently.

Yeah, the head blows, but it actually sounds really good with that SansAmp preamp. I highly recommend it.
