but on another view altogether, pantera has a few great acoustic tunes whereas slayer has no acoustic tunes at all.
how can anyone compare suicide note part 1 and cemetary gates to anything slayers done?
still doesnt get them my vote though.  |

I believe there are many Slayer songs superior to "Cemetary Gates" and "Suicide Note Pt. 1", but your right, no acoustic songs that are better (no acoustic songs period).

I have a feeling that some slayer fans happen to think Slayer are more awesome (not more awesome than Pantera, but more awesome than Slayer, if you get what i mean) just because Slayer has the reputation of being the greatest thrash band ever, and they have a cool, easy to yell name: "SLAYER!!!"
and i think those fans voted in that poll...  |

No matter the show I go to there is always someone that will randomly yell SLAYER; including Pantera shows and weddings receptions. I have not heard Pantera yelled at a Slayer show though.

It's fun and doesn't hurt. It's the 'Freebird' of metal. Also, a lot of Pantera fans tend to be intolerant redneck assholes only a step or two away from being into Hatebreed, so I wouldn't bring the fans of either band into it.

Haha, when someone yells SLAYER at a show it's a request; just like Freebird. Somtimes you get luckly too. Just like CtD said 
Once at my moms wedding reception a bunch of my friends and I yelled FREEBIRD at the band. Keep in mind I was drunk and I remember the band looking at us just after we said it. I didn't think they took us serious because it was a counrty band... but the next song was Freebird and I felt so bad because they struggled through it; in fact it was the worst Freebird I have ever heard in my life.
I have heard SLAYER yelled at wedding receptions before, so I should have yelled SLAYER instead and saved them the trouble.

You're missing the point. On a one-to-one level, Pantera is a more skilled band, but that's meaningless if the product isn't superior. There are many bands with more skilled members than Pantera, but I doubt you'd say they were better. It's not the individual members - that's the fallacy of the supergroup - but how well they combine.
And you did forget Mr. Hanneman.
I'd be equally unable to decide between Metallica and Megadeth, unless we freeze-framed it at a certain point in their careers.

I have that picture on my bedroom wall, too, but oddly enough, was NOT the cheesy picture I was referring to in my earlier post. That picture does not seem cheesy to me, that's just a picture of kids who have fun rocking out. The picture I was referring to was circa 83, when they were wearing makeup and doing the whole Satan thing. My wall is plastered with pictures of Slayer and Megadeth that I found on the internet when I was in high school. I have no idea where I found them all, some of them are probably rare.

This poll shouldn't matter anyway. Slayer play their own type of music - they kind of reinvented thrash with big chunky speed riffs and all out crazy solos. Pantera are influenced by Priest and Maiden and add their own bit to it (and other than Becker, in my opinion Dime is the best metal guitarist ever). It's like comparing Friedman and Becker - both played the same music but were completely different types of guitarists. Hey some1 should do Friedman v Becker poll.

I have the 1980 picture on my wall and it's higher quality than the one you linked to, it's much clearer. Again, it's not the cheesy makeup shit I was referring to. Again, it's just couple of kids havng fun. The only thing cheesy about it is the 80's clothes, you can't blame them for that. Those pictures of Jeff are exactly what I'm referring to, but I don't have that particular picture. I have a different picture of Jeff, with makeup on, playing an orange/brown flying V (looks like a Gibson, but I can't tell because it's cut off), and a cross in his hand that he's holding (of course) upside down. I also have a picture of Kerry with makeup on while playing guitar. I have another picture that's of the whole band standing around with makeup on. I don't know if you have ever seen the cheesy ass promo shots of Celtic Frost (awful band), but if you have, this picture is essentially the same exact thing only with Slayer. It's almost plagiarism if it were possible. Then there is this other picture, which is of the whole band (you can't see Dave, though) playing a gig, with makeup on. This time Jeff has a black Gibson, but it's not a flying V. I can't really tell what Kerry or Tom have.

I beg to differ. Slayer is much more aggressive. Pantera has more of a hardcore feel, while Slayer's is fast, thrashy and pretty much non-stop from start to finish.

Slayer has it hands down. They are way more fast and aggresive. Dime is an awesome guitar player, and phil can (use to) let lose.....but look who is still kickin it strong!!!!!!!!
