Black Dahlia uses custom Esps most likely, but i know for sure they plug into a dual rectifier.

black dahlia plays jackson and esp&ltd guitars with mesa rectos....

unearth uses ibanez s series and rg series 7 strings...
when i saw them about a month ago with lamb of god and E.T.I.D. one guy had a framus cobra as his main head + a rack full of stuff, then he also had a framus dragon as a back up to the cobra, then the other guy had a framus cobra+ rack full of stuff and then a mesa recto as a backup to his cobra.

but def was saying something about they used to use engl stuff in the "stings of conscience" days. but i'm not sure.

Unearth dosent play that pos..

Ken plays the Ibanez S7420
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...e_id=0020583305

and Buz uses some sort of an Ibanez RG.. hard to tell which model, could be the RG7620 or even the RG1527

they both use EMG 707's in the bridge and have an inactive passive pickup in the neck which they obviously dont use.

http://www.blistering.com/fastpage/...th-081302-7.jpg

http://www.prophecy21.com/6/unearth/unearth628.jpg

they used to play ESP guitars, hence why Buz's ESP shirt is inside out

they switch on and off between rg and s series guitars... last time i saw them they were both playing s series ones... but you could clearly see the backup guitars(a couple rgs and another s series)...

nicer ibanez's normally come stock with dimarzios... which are fine... but if you insist on emg's you can get them installed or if you have the know how(it isnt that hard) you can save yourself a lil' $$$ and install them your self. then sell the stock ones on evilbay or put them in another guitar.

EMG's wont fit directly into an Ibanez 7 string.

You need to route some mroe wood out. Just stick with the Dimarzio's

Dimarzio's and Seymour Duncans kick EMG's ass anyday.

Yeah, they used Engl back in the day, or at least, one of their guitarist did, I saw them before the strings of conscience came out, when it came out, I allready had it for two months to preview for inside knowledge (www.insideknowledge.net)

on of those guys used a JCM900 live too, the small guy, I have no idea what his name is. their bassist played Ibanez BTB5's both and Hartke, well the four times I saw them, he played that. maybe he's upgraded by now since they've been getting a lot of attention in the last two years.
I must say the tone of 'the oncoming storm' is pretty different.
I only talked to Trevor a couple of times (the vocalist) he's cool, when they played in Arnhem last year he came up to me and talked for a bit, he reminded my face, and the first time I talked to him was in the end of 2000 when they where recording 'the strings of conscience' so that was pretty darn cool of him.

Loads of metalcore bands seem to be changing tone every now and then, which is weird. Caliban (germany's best metalcore band) still uses engl though, but they've changed their tone quite a bit. their new album doesn't appeal to me at all.

as for Terror, they use esp's, those EC models and viper model bass guitars. don't recall what amps they used, I remember one mesa on stage, the allmost inevidable recto. it was about a year ago, at Groezrock, good stuff. better then Hatebreed by far. shame they didn't bring Freddy Madball for some extra vocals, he does some vocals on 'one with the underdogs' too, the song is 'I'll find my way' Madball style, fucking ownage, like allways!

I dont know, Ibanez must think that you are going to change them anyways or something. Which is stupid.

The pick ups (pups) are not where all the money is at. A guitar may have the same pups as another but cost more since it has better hardware and construction. If you want EMG then you will have to learn to put them in. It isn't hard and there are lots of threads here that give detailed directions about how to do it, plus EMG.com tells you how to do it too. Just buy a Ibanez RG and some EMG's and do it yourself. It's easy!

also http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--IBARG321...

also since there both the same stock pickups, are they anygood..

I would say that your first one is the best, IMO. Depending on what you want in a guitar should determind what model you get and the cost. I know you don't know that much about Ibanez guitars but I hope you clearly see the difference in the two guitars you posted. The first is the one I would get. I see no problems with it and it would take EMG's easy.

The 370 would be the better choice.

But the rg550 would be the best

Well you could just leave it in there but you should never have it connected with the EMG's, which means it would be there for looks and died. You could also get a sigle coil EMG and replace the middle pup and then use it with the other EMG's.

So if i leave it in there for looks, the channel switch will only work for the emgs right?
lol im kind of slow on this guitar stuff..

I was reading about the 370dx and they have flat and fast Wizard and Wizard II necks or something like that, is that decent?

Wizard II neck -- 25.5 scale neck is 2mm thicker than the super-thin, super-flat Ibanez Wizard.

Maple neck material
thanks

Well both of those necks feel the same to me, so if one is 2 mm thicker then who cares. Wizard whatever necks are wonderful. I think you would like that Ibanez with EMG, and yes, if you wire the guitar for just the EMG then the middle pup will never be activated. It's only purpose would be to fill space and look nice. What you could do to simplify things is just replace the 5 way blade switch with a 3 way blade switch while installing the EMG's. That way you wouldn't have 2 points on the switch that are died and the EMG's will always be on as though the guitar only had 2 pups.

im talking bout a good sound, with nice cleans.

BIATCH!! I start to dislike EMG's more and more.

My one guitar with the 81 sounds so fake to me now, where my other guitars with Duncans and Dimarzio's sound organic, warm... just all around good.

there. you pretty much nailed whats wrong with emg's.

well, its not 'wrong' but thats the downside of active pu's.

about the 370dx, you can throw those pickups right outta the window when you take it out of the box. I would prolly go with some nice dimarzio's or SD's if you want to go even heavier.

I've got a RG750, a pre'90 model with the original Edge trem, it owns. and I got it used for a good price, its on the same level as the prestiges nowaday, actually, it was the paul gilbert guitar before he got his own sig. nice bounded headstock/neck too, I use it with dimarzio tone zone's and a blue velvet in the middle pos.

If I wanted EMG's I'de probably stick them in a gibby les paul for a brutal bashing sound a lá Zakk Wylde. they sound thinner in an SG and I don't think they sound great in RG's at all. the Les Paul's fattness makes EMG's stand out.

i don't see why everybody hates emg's around here... i think they sound fine... an emg 60 in the neck position is my favorite for cleans... 81's and 85's are pretty nice to...
they don't sound like duncan's or dimarzios, but that's because they're emg's...

personally i love more passive pickups than active ones, but my next guitar is going to be a 1972 tele thinline with an emg 60 in the neck and duncan livewire metal in the bridge.... fantastic... but first i need to sell my pgm 30.

in my rg 570 i'm trying to figure out if i like the duncan jb or dimarzio tonezone better... if only they had one that was like a mixture...
my guitarist just ditched the emg's in his sg... he has the stock neck pu back in there because he likes it's solo tone, and he's thinking of going for a dimarzio super distortion or a gibson dirty fingers.

but i'd hardly say that emg's are super sterile or fake sounding... alot depends on the guitar, the amp, and the person playing.

I don't think there's anyone who 'hates' EMG's here, haha.

in comparisson, all active pickups sound more sterile, but thats just the characteristic of active pickups, they do have a lot of output and sound really tight, tighter then most passive pu's. they can sound really brutal. best example how tight an emg can sound is dino cazares. I let a friend of mine try his LP with EMG zakk wylde set and it was really brutal through both my tube amps. but the overall tone remained the same, didn't do much for me, but I can understand why some people love them. If I had a solid state setup I'de probably use them to in one of my guitars. Livewires are better, but they have different characteritics, they're more like a boosted passive in sound.

as for RG's, I love my tone zone's in it, they're not as heavy as a duncan JB set, but they sound great overall, they can really scream out on the high notes and they just compliment your playing when you're doing solos.

So as for the rg 370dx which pickups would sound heavier or better in them, i want something with a nice clean heavy sound, maybe something like KSE, lamb of god, sorta of like that.

thanks

If you want a good clean sound than get some good Passives, im not a fan of EMG cleans at all.

EMG's will give more of a tight, punchy sound...

Passives will give you more tonal options.

Well I made a thread similar to this not too long ago, and had about the same price range for getting a new amp and the more experienced members recomended either getting a used Peavey 5150 Combo or a Crate Blue Voodoo-60 halfstack, so I would say check those two out.

as for getting a new amp for 400, you're going into the used market for sure because its hard to find an amp for that price thats decent. a 5150 combo would be neat for that price, if they're that cheap over there.

what amp are you using right now?

don't worry about pedals.... that's what you should look for in an amp is a good/great distortion channel.... something like the bv could slay any of those little metal stomboxes.

unearth: good guitars with good spec's(pickups n' such), framus cobras and dragons, and a rack full of goodies.... if you have the gear they have and you can't get a great sound out of it then you simply suck.....
as for studio... you can do even more wonders in there.

Guitar world says alot of things. They cant have that because their tone is too good.

+1
though i wouldnt doubt what guitar world says too much, but i'm sure they have many setups... the mode four could easily be one of them because they do have that simple marshall tone that could be found amongst many marshalls... though i don't see the point of the ts-9 because the mode four has to much gain available as it is and shadow's fall don't even use that much gain.

i'd find a used guitar... $300-$500 can go a long ways on the used market.

assuming you're talking u.s. dollars.... $400 can get you a great used cab or a pretty good new cab.
i see 1960 cabs going for like $300 these days used.
for a head however, if you must buy new then you're definately looking at s.s.
and $400 still wont go far there.
even on the used market $400 wont give you much options for tube stuff.
the blue voodoos are about that(usually a little less), or if you could find a trashed 5150... also, laney and sovtek stuff(used of course)....

Yeah.

LTD's are non-american ESP's, in other words, pretty crappy ESP knock off's which they sell ''as'' ESP, but if you put them next to each other you'll see and feel the difference immidiatly, some retards can't tell the difference in sound, but I'm pretty sure 80% will hear it at the first couple of notes...

they're factory produced outside the US and carry cheapern hardware, pickups and woods. so there you go.

Ok, for their price they aren't all that crap, but they're not american ESPs, those are way more expensive.

real esp's cost more... musicians friend catologs and other small dealers prefer to show off the more affordable git's.

No such thing as an American Made ESP, their all made in Japan.

and the EC-1000 is a nice guitar, but i think passives sound better in it.
