i mean cant you hear all his screw ups and insistancies?
if he played on a classical guitar or on that guitar unplugged i think he would sound like absolute crap
so unless the kid is 8 years old, i dont really find that impressive

That kid is horrible in every way possible....
I'm 17 and can play Bodom After Midnight  And I actually hit the notes. Sounds like that kid is SOMETIMES hitting root notes or whatever and throwing in bullshit notes inbetween

yea i saw this on another forum, and everybody there was giving him mucho complimentes, even though he sucked so much ass!
so i'll just post what i said on that thread:
I'm not impressed at all by this guy.
i started playing guitar when i was 11 years old, and at his age (14), i could play much cleaner. True, i didn't attempt to play Eruption, but that's the very thing that bothers me
If he was actually 8 years old, or 4, or still in the womb, I would've been a lot more impressed if he playing anything cleanly, mary had a little lamb, anything easy.
The fact is that he tried to show off and play something he couldn't play, Eruption. He did not hit one note cleanly.
Anybody can sloppily play Eruption with unwanted strings ringing out and generally bad technique, at any age if they just picked up the guitar for one month.
He's no better than dudes at Guitar shops that play hard songs unintentionally bad for the sake of showing off.

Uhhhh thats not very good at all.
Ive seen better ill try and figure out who the kid i saw. He looked like he was maybe 12 and he was extremely good, i saw him on tv playing the national anthem at some sporting event, and they showed a clip of him improvising

the reason he probably has so much confidence is that everyone thinks he some child prodigy. I wish I had started guitar at 13 but I didn't. That Ryan Perry kid might have repetative riffs but his solo is shitload better then that kids attempt at shredding.

That first kid,it was a nice try but he sucked.I mean,if he was 8,I guess you could cut him some slack but does age really matter? I think what matters more is how long and how much has he been playing and I believe that I could take him out and I'm 14 and I've been playng for 4 yrs.
The other kid that plays my life was pretty boring,but at least he doesn't make noise.

Now that I know he is a young teen, I would exspect more of him, but he was in front of a lot of peeps in the first vid so maybe he was nervous. I still get nervous just before I play for people, but I like that energized feeling too. He isn't bad, but the I don't think he deserves the attention he is getting.

i just hope that he doesn't start thinking that he's a "good" player, aside from him being so young. he's playing WAY too fast for his abilities, and will never get any better unless he turns the speed down and spends a lot of time practicing much slower. that kind of sloppiness shouldn't be so encouraged. it's great that he's playing guitar, but he won't go anywhere until he slows down a LOT and works at it more seriously.

My kid is turning 8 in two weeks, I bought a starter epiphone and am going to get him lessons. We'll see how he turns out, his favorite two bands are Slayer and Death at the moment so we'll see. He's more interested in drums than guitar, but I think all kids are at that age.

I went to see a band I had never heard of once, and they blew me away, these guys walked on stage looking like half of Limp Bizkit, and one of the guitarists warmed up with a sweeping run, and I felt like walking out of the building, going home and throwing my guitar in the bin. These guys were 17 when I saw them two years ago and they had been playing for 10 and 8 years then, and Nick (the one who's been playing the longest) is shit hot. they play metal which has kinda ended up as powermetal with harsh vocals, but originally they had influences such as Dissection, At The Gates, Immortal and everything in between. Check out www.phallicide.co.uk...although they don't shred for shred's sake, their solos are always part of the songs, not songs to support solos (yngwie!)
Maybe this kid will be good in a while, but he looked like a dick mashing all those notes with a guitar that practically drawfed him. And those idiots in the background who are 'worshipping him' need a kicking too. |

I think its stupid that hes getting all this attention from MTV and stuff. Theres kids out there the same age thats better. This dude just looks younger (cuz hes like 4 ft tall) so every one thinks hes really young and good. And I think from the second video, he is worse. So what, he can tap and shred very sloppely. Hes not a bad guitarist. Hes just not that great.

I hate you shredisnotdead, everyone on the forums is better than me but I'm still better than everyone at my school so theres no one to practice my ass off just for the sole purpose of being better than they are.
And that little kid reminded me of my last drummer when he played guitar, he did the same thing but only used the neck pickup and just thrashed his entire forearm. According to him all solos are supposed to be with the neck pickup because he said "where else is the bass going to come from." He also didn't understand that when you flicked that switch the pickups you were using changed or that you can change pickups. I tried to explain that I put emgs on my guitar but he said "I dont like jacksons because they come with emgs" Then he wanted to play slipknot and quit after saying that he was a better player than me.

Same here, especially for sweeps and the like. I think Jon from Cryptopsy predominantly uses the neck pick up and his style is awesome.

I was playing a slowish solo with quite a few pinches and stuff and he didnt understand that pinches suck on the neck pickup, because he didnt know that when you flipped the switch it used the neck pickup. He kept trying to get my friend to do it and my friend's guitar doesnt even have a neck pickup (he could only afford to get 1 emg so having that and a powersound both hooked up would be really damn stupid)
But yea sweeps do sound better on the neck, as does insano romeo and tolkki shredding (and i cant do any of it  ) |

Does anyone live wherever they said that school of rock is. It'd be priceless for someone from the forums to join that thing and outplay the kid in every possible way and then say something like "why did they put someone as bad as you on mtv" to see the kid run away crying because he's a pussy.

I think its the bridge pickup hes using but Im not sure. I know I use the bridge pickup for sweeping only cuz I have 2 single coils in the neck pos (sounds like ass).
And shred, that clip was pretty good. Better than I was expecting. I thought you were going to be like the kid in the video.

well, all i can say is hes a good guitarist for his age. Yes there were obvious errors. It sounds similar to how i would play what he was playing if i were given a month or so to practice it, but then again ive only been playing since october 2002...and i was 13 at the time

That kid is going to get to a point a little bit better than he is now and then just stop progressing because he thinks he's good enough. And it's obvious that that stupid school of rock can only teach you power chords and pop rock so i doubt anyone there could help him progress. The key to getting really good is to never be satisfied with your playing. Billy Sheehan still isn't and hes been playing for like 30 years, and he's waaaay too good.

How can you tell... a toggle switch wont tell you what pickup is selected, maybe if it was a blade type switch than yes you could tell but a toggle no you cant.

dammit im an idiot, sorry it's on some newer vid of him i have playing prog (the song). But I looked at the speed lives video on the site and its pretty clear when hes using what pickup because of the sound and you see him switch back and forth and he plays most of the song including sweeps with bridge.

On speed lives it looks like he is sweeping on the bridge. It sounds like it and he switches the pickup from what sounds to be the neck pickup to the bridge for his sweeps. Once again, Im not sure.

yeah pretty nice youngster i've been playing for like 5 years and 23 but yeah i can recognize some of that..... a lil paganini and some stuff yngwie does for warming up and what not... i just learned the beggining of trilogy suite op5 of yngwies..... took a while but it was fun and worth it

EXACTLY. Ive never agreed w/ anything more about guitaring. People say im real good for the amount of time im playing, but the only reason why is because im never happy w/ what i play, and when briefly i dont play very much. This is the problem w/ other guiatrists i know, they just keep playing the same stuff and dont progress and think "yeah im pretty good" |
