Man fuck off with this genre shit. A good solo is a good solo.
It's not the most technical, but the solos after Bed of Razors on COB - Tokyo Warhearts live are awesome. At the end the guitar vs keyboard showdown ... \m/

Holy shit. I don't know if I mentioned that in my first reply, but all the solos on that album are so fucking awesome. It's not even the technicality (which in itself is great in certain songs, especially "Bad Omen"), they are all just so rich, full, and emotional.

Martyr - Retry? Abort? Ignore?
Nevermore - Bittersweet Feast.
Insision - We Did Not Come To Heal.
Hate Eternal - The Faceless One [both of them].
Meshuggah - Cadaverous Mastication [in fact I pretty much like all of Throdendal's crazy musings].
Allan Holdsworth - Proto Cosmos, Tell Me [on the REH instructional video].
Death - Overactive Imagination, The Philosopher.
Cynic - Veil Of Maya, How Could I [outro].
I like too many. I don't really have a favourite.

You guy's will hate this, but Metallica's 'Eye of the beholder' is a fave of mine.
But most every thing Michael Ammott does is inspiring, and the all the lead work in between the buried and me gives me a woody.

My all time favorite metal solo is definitely the Friedman solo form Torndao of Souls by Megadeth.

Generally speaking I prefer non-super fast shred solo's so my fav's include:
Nemesis by Arch Enemy, anything by Insomnium, Zombie Inc- In Flames, Lost in Apathy - Dark Tranquillity, Black Waltz- Kalmah, Voice of the Soul- Death. But my ultimate fav. solo is December Flower by In Flames off Jester Race. Wasn't even them that did it though, it was some session guy they had.
