No. If that were true he might allow his other musicians input into the songwriting. It's true that he's not being a guitar hero (though it's not as though he isn't the most respected rhythm player in the past decade), but he stresses being in control over the music. True perfectionism is not about being a control freak ceaselessly; it allows input if it makes the music better. He'd rather his music come out poorly than any way other than his way.
I picked up the guitar because of Dimebag and Zakk Wylde, but neither of them would top my list at the moment. The same is equally true of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Brian May (good to see somebody mentioned him), Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kenny Burrell, and any number of guitarists in this vain. I guess I still idolize them, but they're not so ever-present in my mind.
Probably the players I've had the most respect for are as follows:
Jeff Loomis
Scott Ian
Andy Laroque
Dave Mustaine
Chuck Schuldiner
Daniel Mongrain
Trey Azagthoth
Kirk Windstein
Fredrik Thordendal
Brian Patton
It feels odd having so many rhythm players on here, but what can you do? If none of these guys could write a good riff, they'd have no business being on my list to begin with.

Ha..
My biggest influences to play guitar are Akerfeldt and Lindgren, but the most talented would be:
Jason Becker
Jimmy Page
Dimebag Darrell
Gary Moore
Randy Rhoads
Zakk Wylde
Tony Iommi
Dave Mustaine
Steve Vai
Stevie Ray Vaughan
John Petrucci
Jeff Beck
Eric Clapton
Dave Gilmour
Chuck the god
I love to listen to / play anything by any of these.

Favorite Guitarists...
Hey, really too many too list on this one but here's a partial list of my favorites/most influential:
-Dimebag
-Randy Rhoads
-Van Halen
-Marty Friedman
-Jimmy Page
-Michael Schenker (Only saw him mentioned once?? what's up?)
-Steve Vai
-Eric Johnson
-Gary Moore (thought no one was gonna mention him until I finally saw him in the post right before this. Once again, wtf?? )
-Mike Stern (Jazz player, fucking awesome!)
-Al Di Meola (Guys, c'mon if you haven't checked out Di Meola you really should)
And for good measure an up-n-comer:
-Synyster Gates (from Avenged Sevenfold, they haven't been around long, maybe a few years, but for such a young dude this guys prolly gonna go a long way. If you haven't heard him check out Second Heartbeat from the album Waking the Fallen. I love his rhythms and the whole song rox, but he's got a solo starting at about 6:10 and going through the end of the song that's a good sample of his work. But you really should check out the whole album )
EDIT: How could I forget Steve Morse??

DIMEBAG is my favorite guitarist and ill tell you why
he could shred better than anyone reading this could even understand
his knowledge of music was underated, he could play anything he wanted
he may not technically be the best but ive never heard anyone in history write as nasty rhythm parts and throw down the perfect lead.....every single song.....i mean people like yngwie and vai are incredible but i dont have their music in my head all day its motherfuckin pantera
and if ur down with blues check out roy buchanan

For me i'd have to say there are 2 guitarists that really really made me feel the music. And they would have to be Dimebag and Steve Vai.
The solo's by Dime: The Sleep, Floods, 10's and We'll meet again were truly heaven sent for me.
And Steve Vai's Tender Surrender and For Love of God are only a couple of the many many Vai songs i could listen to over and over.

Slash ( for solos in November rain etc)
Max Cavalera ( for riffs in Schizophrenia )
Alexi Laiho
Not to be included in my list are:
Malmsteen ( cos he uses too much Arpeggios)
Kirk Hammet ( cos he uses too much tapping)

You do know that Alexi Laiho uses a lot of arpeggios, don't you? I'd also add that Kirk Hammet uses no more tapping than the next thrash soloist - in fact, his recent work is completely deviod of the technique altogether.

Assuming I haven't already replied to this (and not bothering to look through), here are some people I really look up to.
Muhammed Suicmez (I'll never be on his level and have resigned myself to that fact)
Marty Friedman
Ron Jarzombek & Billy White
Paul Masvidal & Jason Gobel
Pat O'Brien
Frank Emmi & Rand Burkey
Doug Cerrito
Terrance Hobbs
My only true hero, and he has been my hero since I started out with guitar, is Dave Mustaine. Anybody who doesn't like that is in for a beatdown followed by a savage teabagging.

I feek that John Lowery (also known to minimoshers as John 5) is my fav guitar player. Check out his album vertigo. it's not the most technixally outstanding album I've ever heard, But he's just got such a wierd style. must be all his country lovin'.
Also, the guitarist from Nokturnal Mortum is pretty good at making dodge folk/black riffs and wierd sweepy solos. they may be a bunch of NS assholes, but their music still rocks.
apart from that it's all pretty obvious: Satch, Vai, Malmsteen, Batio, Fareri, Dime (RIP), Hanneman, Thompson & Root (except when playing w/ tonkpilS), Mustaine, Friedman, Pin & Weller (SikTh), Lykathea Aflame's axeman, and Gash (you don't know him yet, but give it time... )

There are many. The ones that really stand out are as follows.
James Hetfield, (for his vocals, and bad ass rhytm guitar chops)
Dave Mustaine, (he's amazing, one of the fastest guitarists I've ever heard)
Angus Young, (originality, stage antics, unbelievable skills)
Dimebag Darrell, (for his thick, heavy, balls to the wall, tone on VDOP, (did I mention his sheer fucking shredding awesomeness?))
and lately
John Petruci, for his technique, he's plain fucking awesome.
Probably forgot a few. If they read this and get mad, I will appologize.

Alexi Laiho was the reason i started listening to metal and eventually starting guitar, But once i got into the music a bit more i found quite a few... Another one up there is late pantera/Damageplan guitarist Dimebag darrel.
