Ok Thanks for the link but what do you mean by "reverse what you are doing when picking down" ??

I mean sweep back up instead of alternative picking.

Mabye this will help: Each scale starts on the 2nd note of the previous scale. The order of the scales is always the same. The only thing that changes is the position of them which changes along with the key.

So in this attachment, its in Am so we start with Aeolian on the A on the big E. Locrian is the next scale (see the pictures to connect). If say you where composing a solo for a riff in F major, you would place Ionian on F on the big E string.

I use my middle finger to tap. The pick tap does tend to be a bit louder but with practice the finger seems to be just as good. Besides that the only reason I prefer the finger is because it causes a tad less effort and movement from the hand causing less loss of speed.

Yeah as it turns out it is alot easier using my finger, or maybe I just have practiced it to a point where it just feels like that.

also this is an awesome thread. can't wait to see what you do with it.

It'll be some time before I do, but I will eventually. I'd put videos up but I don't know how to hook up old video recorder to the computer. Mabye I'll put some audio up.

I would recommend getting over that habit. Sweep picking is different than economy picking.

Im just practicing small sweeps at the moment.

If i do a sweep like:
e-------6
B-----7-
G---8---
D-9-----
I up pick on the 9 and downstroke the rest. Anyway, in this simple sweep fingers come off the string comlpetley.
If I try a similar pattern downways my fingers do not completely come off the strings.

Is this a good or a bad habit? In a way my fingers stil stay on the string and dont allow ring. If i work at it will i get a nice sweep sound happening? Or what... Im new to Sweep Picking and Im learning the Open Face Surgery solo ... Is this a good choice to start of with. Im finding it pretty easy.
Anyway, someone comment on my technique. Sorry if i wasnt descriptive enough but basically my question is whether its ok to not completely take fingers off the string.

Thanks.

Pick and choose some stuff out of Cacophony's Concerto. Some of the stuff in there is great sweep practice.

The top one is definitely the diminished scale.
