Favorite drum riff/passage of all time??
This is a hard one!!
Mine would have to be Tjoldalv's rhythm from 3:42 - 4:28 of Dimmu Borgir's "Mourning Palace" (Enthrone Darkness Triumphant). This is one of my favorite black metal passages of all time, anyway, but the drums in particular are what gets me. They're just so fluid..... SOOOOOOOOOO powerful.
Tjoldalv is one of my favorite drummers on the face of the Earth (would make my all-time Top 5 list, for sure).
A VERY closer runner-up would have to be Children of Bodom's Jaska Raatikainen during the first verse of "Downfall" (album - Hatebreeder, 0:52 - 1:12). I love the sound of the double-kick drum, and he uses it in this song better than anyone I've ever heard, despite being only 22 years old!

Easy for me...
Napalm Death - The Chains That Blind Us - drum interlude after the giutar solo...
Painkiller - Morning Of Balachaturdasi - drum intro...
Oh yeah, Mick Harris is my "only" influence in drumming, lol...

i was listening to Vital Remains the other day and was reminded of this thread...Forever Underground, something around 5:45min. mark is a kickass bit of drumming excellence...nothing too complicated, but it just sounds soo awesome, perfectly fitting in w/the song

I'd say tracks #3 and #4 off Immolation's Failures for Gods.
I love the sound he gets out of his double-bass drums.
Actually.....just about that whole cd is awesome for drumming.

I still say the first part of Raining Blood just gets me off ever time I hear it plus the drum solo in that song "Snot" by Snot. I like the sound he gets out of his Snare. Its got a real bright sound.

The shapes kept moving, and the child was my innocence too, and it was asking me to promise to share that innocence completely with our shinebelly baby when she/he births and grows and becomes human.

Mine would have to be either the intro to 13 Steps to Nowhere by Pantera, or the beginning drum riff with the tremolo guitars in Morbid Angel's Dawn of the Angry.

DC, I did know about the Mortician thingy...
That's why I checked them out, because they did cover Napalm Death. Too bad they're too shitty to write any good songs. And they use fuckin' drum-machines.
And if someone wants to be a grinder here, starts to listen to Mortician, because it's entitled as a 'grind' band by metalhammer, and the only grind shirt what 'headbanger' has is the newest Mortician.

Perhaps ill natured spiritual invasion by Old Man's Child was so awesome because it was Gene Hoglan on drums? You know, the guy from death, Dark Angel, Strapping Young Lad and Testament. But tjoldalv is a good drummer too.

the main drum beat to "Puritania" by Dimmu Borgir. It has a real haunting and gothic feel to it. That, or "Necrophobic" by Slayer. Man thats FAST!

I'd have to say that this song is one of my favourites. However, my favourite passage comes after the long-high pitched scream at about 4:10 until 4:25
(followed by one friggin mad riff)
