Here's a short article about Down, with mention of the upcoming record:
From http://www.elektra.com
New Album - comin' soon!
DOWN REUNITES WITH SOPHOMORE EFFORT IN 2002
Downtime between albums has taken on a whole new meaning for rock’s premier underground supergroup… Down. Pantera’s Philip Anselmo and Corrosion Of Conformity’s Pepper Keenan, along with Jimmy Bower of Eye Hate God, Kirk Windstein of Crowbar, and Pantera’s Rex Brown are readying the new Down album, scheduled to hits stores March 26, 2002.
The Louisiana natives (except for Brown) have once again buried themselves in their New Orleans roots - taking a leave of absence from their day jobs to crank out the kind of rock that only Down knows how to cook up.
The group originally formed - sans Brown - as a relaxed free-for-all – just a few close, lifelong friends, all hailing from the true capital of the dirty South – New Orleans - cutting it up with all the southern flair they could muster. What was originally regarded as a pleasurable little side project ultimately surprised the rock world, with Down’s 1995 debut album, NOLA, garnering rave reviews and shipping more than 300,000 units.
The ebullient album struck a chord in rock fans hungry for a no frills, bayou-baked throw down, with one critic colorfully describing the results as: “A rabid Sabbath-on-Moonshine extravaganza.” This time around, Pantera bass player Rex Brown adds even more bottom to Down’s alluvial sound. “I love playing with these guys,” says Philip Anselmo. “We go so far back the music is almost second nature to us.” Recorded in Nodferatu’s Lair somewhere in the swamps of south Louisiana, you can almost hear the bamboo rustling, as well as the no-holds barred camaraderie between each member. “We do this shit for fun,” says Phil. “Down is about the pure love of playing the kind of music that is imbedded in our souls.”
For more info, visit http://www.down-nola.com
I like some of the material off the first Down record; "Stone the Crow" comes to mind instantly. Great song.

This thread needs a poll.
Anyway, early contender for best album of 2002 - Bad Religion - The Process of Belief. It's fucking fantastic.

I don't think so. How could they be ripping off themselves when their newer stuff is much deeper and heavier than their earlier stuff?
Also i doubt their ripping slipknot off....usually when people copy another band, it turns out worse than ever....but Slayer's new stuff sounds way better than anything Slipknot ever wrote.

I never follow the actual releases, so now I can make a clear list...
Top-5 of the best:
1. Godflesh - Hymns
2. Atomsmasher - s/t
3. Neurosis - A Sun That Never Sets
4. Carcass Grinder/Hashdum - Split
5. Godflesh - In All Languages DVD
3 Biggest disappointments:
1. Napalm Death - Enemy of the Music Business
It's utter shit. Completely sucks. Even worse than Utopia Banished...
2. Neurosis - A Sun That Never Sets
I expected more for them, but anyways, it's still on my list. The worst about it - Dave didn't do any vocals on that. I feel Neurosis didn't do it's 100% on this one...
3. Napalm Death - DVD
It was hard to decide, what was better the Godflesh or the Napalm DVD... I liked the Godflesh better - Napalm Death shows both might had Mick on the drums, but there were mainly dull tracks on them, and on the prev. unreleased gig there wasn't Mitch, only Jesse.
What I missed from the year:
Mick Harris didn't do shit. No Scorn, no Lull, no EOE, no Painkiller, no Defecation, no nothing...
What I get annoyed of mostly:
Nickelback - Silver Side Up
Damn... I'll have to listen to that crap everytime I turn on my radio...

No, I know that is not right!
..Slipknot is ripping SLAYER off!.........((that is if anyone is getting ripped off))
..Slipknot's song "heretic anthem".....rips off SLAYER's song "Angel of Death"!!!
((especially since the slipknot song came out over ten years after the SLAYER album"Reign in Blood"))
..in the slipknot song, the bass drums are doing that double roll when all the music stops, then while the bass drums are still going the music kicks back in..............
...just like in SLAYER's "Angel of Death"!!!!!

Correct me if I fuck up the releaseyears, I'm really not sure. Here goes:
1. Sonata Arctica - Silence (except for two shitty ballads, it's awesome)
2. CoB - Follow the Reaper (I don't give a fuck if you HATE ME!!!)
3. Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin (I think it was 2001 in Japan......not sure)
4. Borknagar - Empiricism (or however you spell it. Kick-ass-album)
5. Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical bla bla (It is quite good)
Disappointments:
Rhapsody - Rain of a thousand Flames (I hate the narrator, he fucks up evrything)
probably more, I forget bad releases
