I saw Metallica live with Godsmack on thursday. It was an awesome concert but Kirk Hammet's solo's werent that great. His clean solo's were pretty good and stuff but his distorted solo's were covered up with wah so basically he was just making noise. I think hes a bit overrated in terms of skill but he can write some pretty awesome guitar parts. |

Kirk's best work is on ...And Justice For All - his solo in Dyer's Eve is one of my favourite solos and never ceases to amaze me. There's a lot of good guitar work from him on that album (and also on RTL and MOP) but everything after that is very derivative and uninspiring. I prefer Marty Friedman - he's better technically and his solos seem to be more fluid than Kirk's.

Hammet is WAYYY overrated. Mustaine's solos kick ass too- Hangar 18, Five Magics, Mechanix. That's a good example why MEGADETH KICKS METALLICA'S ASS. Mechanix vs. The Four Horsemen, PLEASE.

hammet is good, better than i am but most of his solos are very similar, and he never sounds like hes pushing himself. but, he did make some of my favorite all time solos (Damage Inc., NEM, Master of Puppets)
