Floyd Rose Tension: String gauge? Number of Springs?

The Floyd Rose on my Neck-Thru N.J. Warlock seems to put up a lot of resistance when I use the whammy bar, more than other guitars. It's tuned to D, has 10 gauge strings, and has an extra spring on the tremolo plate. Do you guys think I could make the trem easier to use by:

1) Removing a spring? (I don't think it would help but I hope so)

2) Switching to 9 gauge strings? (I think it would help but I don't really want to)

Or maybe I should just suck it up and practice my dimebag harmonic screams with the guitar as it is?

Thanks for the feedback.

Having 4 springs will require more effort to dive the trem, and I think 4 is too many for 10 gauge strings on a guitar tuned in D. I've only got 3 in my Jackson strung with 11s in C#, so you should be able to set it up with just 3 and get it balanced. You'll obviously have to screw the spring claw in further to compensate.

Not all trem springs are the same 'weight' either. Sometimes 1 stronger spring can provide enough extra resistance to make a difference if a trem is too light on just 3 springs. Problem is I've never seen them actually 'graded' so, it's not exactly scientific. Just luck if you have a couple lying around and one happens to be slightly stiffer than another.
