passive single coil for bridge

i'm looking for a replacement bridge pickup for a fender strat.

the guitar has got a really thin body, not sure what the wood is, but it's very light. it's japanese, and has a floating trem.

i intend to use it for leads. i'd like it to sound like a real guitar and not a toy. something thick and cool not wanky.

been looking at the SD hot rails, and also a kent armstrong wpu12. any suggestions? no dimarzio plz

why no dimarzio sir? Their single pickups are my favorites, sound so damn close to humbuckers. I heard good things about the hot rails though

I got a hot rails in the bridge of a strat. They are fantastic pickups. Moderate output and very crunchy.

If you want a single coil pickup that sounds like a humbucker(and cancels noise like one), why not try the Dimarzio Tonezone S? The humbucker version is thick, awesome sound for leads and it also does good rhythm tones. The SC version is supposed to sound exactly the same so you know what to expect.

i had the tonezone as a humbucker and didn't like it. i also had a paf pro and a x2n, and i didn't like those either. so that's why i'm looking for something other than a dimarzio. other brands that make good hot single coils?

Hotrails & Lil 59'

My American Standard Tele has the Duncan Hotrails in the bridge and it sounds amazing. It's very hot and tight sounding.

I also have a USA Highway One Tele with a Lil 59' and it's equally bad ass. It's more of a medium output pickup. So it's got a differen't flavor. It's a little smoother and not as bright as the Hotrails.

My American Standard has been fitted for a Gibson BurstBucker 2 in the neck. Great match for the Hotrails. This is my more modern Tele for sure.

The USA Highway1 Tele has the stock neck pickup. Which of course sounds great with the little 59'. It's my classier Tele.

Can't you just replace the pickguard and put in a 'standard' size humbucker into it?

You'll have more options to choose from that way, and standard size humbuckers are less muddy then single-unit sized ones.

The Hotrails and Lil 59' are nowhere near muddy. The Hotrails is actually one of the tightest pickups I've ever played with a super focused low end. And the Lil 59' is a medium output pickup so it's very very clear in the entire frequency range.

Less muddy. I didn't say that single space humbuckers are cursed with excessive mud, but in relation to 'normal' size humbuckers..

Its because the closer the coils of a humbucker get togheter, the less clear the sound becomes.

And that still leaves the fact that theres more double sized humbuckers out there then single space models, hence more choice.

I also think they look cool. But that may be a bogus reason to get one

it's a single space bridge cavity in the body. do strats with singles usually come with a double sized cavity?
