Think this guy just sold me on a GT-10 or at least a GT-8.

http://www.bossgtcentral.com/gt10video.html

Damn! I'm looking for a preamp or something to add some oomph to my Crate GX-130C and since i'm broke I can't just go out and get a Engl and new Ibanez.

So, that said, I'm also looking at a Behringer or however the fuck you spell it V-amp Pro.

I have a late 80s USA Made Hamer Chapparal with a Dimarzio X2N, a scalloped fret board from the 12 fret up and my Crate GX130C. Will probably upgrade the speakers soon to V30s or some V30 sounding speakers.

Any comments? I have a budget of about 600 bucks to spend on new gear.

hmm.. they do promote it very hornily, but they sayd the exact same things about my gt-6, the only things that seem different would be.. the usb port, an improved ez tone thingy (never used it much) and the positional graphic stuff.

They are right about one thing though..boss stuff IS built like a tank.

As far as gt preamps go.. they're acceptable, but not great. You'll not get pro sounds out of a gt unless you have a good (tube) poweramp or stack with it.

I can pretty much guarantee the guys in the film played with a tubestack.

If you want everything into one with a easier interface then most multi-fx stuff, it's good. The preamps are meh, but the other fx are good.

If you just want a preamp, buy something else or save up. Especialy high gain preamps on the gt are kinda sucky.

Annyhow, what do you want to do with the rig you're looking at?
Home use and recording?
Band practice and gigging?

If you just want something at home, download a pirated amps sim software, like Amplitube, Guitar Rig or Revalver. They're decent, free if you don't mind breaking the law a bit , and sound decent enough on a stereo, in the loop of an amp, or with a poweramp.

Also, one thing.. if there's a rig you want, save up until you can afford it, don't just buy shitty stuff in the middle.

I'm looking at home use and possibly getting into doing live. I do want a new rig in addition to my crate gx130c but I just don't know what to get. I love darker sounds like cannibal corpse and broken hope.

what about a digitech preamp ... like a 2112 or 2120? would probably sound a lot better than the v-amp pro or the boss. more expensive though.

jack owen is a digitech endorser, so you should be able to get that CC sound you're looking for.

I've had a GT-8 for a few years now. I love it but hate having to tweak out a new patch. There are an almost unlimited range of parameters that have to be addressed before you can zero in on a tone and its different for every amp and guitar combination. I use a Midi/USB cord to install and make patches and it works pretty well. I thought about the GT-10 but the only new thing is it has a looper function, so I'll stay with my GT-8.

There was a member of this forum named Innards Decay who had a 2112/2120 (don't exactly remember which one he had) and he loved the distortion it brought out. Said it was thick like Suffocation's sound on "Pierced From Within", a definite plus in my book.

Man i've been wanting a digitech 2112 or whatever since i was in college. 8 years ago! Maybe I can afford one now.

I'm thinking maybe get an Avatar 4x12 stereo cab for my gx130c and a digitech and be good to go. I just don't see myself dropping a lot of cash on a VHT or some other nice but $$$ tube amp.
