finger curling

when you play with your fingers should you curl the pink and ring finger to your palm or does it matter if they are going up and down as long as they dont hit the string. i was wondering if the curling helps with your finger independancy like when your playing with 3 or 4 fingers...

i use my index, middle, ring and thumb to pluck the strings, but my pinky does tend to curl in a bit on its own. i guess it still moves a bit, but i dont think it has any affect really.

I tend to keep my fingers straight, i mainly use my index and middle, and my ring finger and little finger would be muting the strings when not doing anything.

When using 2 fingers, I tend to keep my pinkie and ring finger straight, so when I come to faster parts, they are both right there and comfortable to jump in.

Cheers.

i use my index and middle finger, and my ring for galloping and any triplet sections. My pinky does involuntarily curl. I don't think it means anything cause im still improving.

I use my Index, Middle (and sometimes my ring finger) for plucking. My pinky usually moves on it's own or curls up just a little bit on it's own. I wouldn't intentionally curl it, it could constrict your playing. IMO... not a very good idea. It doesn't matter if they move on their own, just make sure they aren't muting the string you are playing or hitting other strings in the process.

~Cheers

i use a flamenco style three finger pattern unless i'm string crossing, and i've noticed that my pinky mainly remains rigid and doesn't curl

Well, I don't think curling changes anything. I mean, it's like with guitarist and picks. Some people pick with three fingers spread away from palm, others play with fingers curled to palm. I tend to curl the fingers while playing the guitar, but when I'm playing bass all fingers are straight.
