Again, it alerts you of every new post made while you look at it. So if, for example, we had one here and you were looking at it now, the second I posted this, it would show up right before your eyes, with a link to this post, so that you can post-whore with the utmost convenience. Which would be useful, since you don't seem to be up to the rigorous levels of thought required of anonymous internet discourse.
