Leadership, not lobbyshit

"Hi, This is an amended form of the previous.
Please pass this on to all the politicians, pundits, wonks, bureaucrats, and bloggers
you might know. You can thank me later.

All the talk about energy involves more welfare for large corporations, and the further financial enslavement of the common man. Giant windfarms are being promoted rather than small scale windmills for small business, family farmers, and lower and middle class family homes. Ditto solar. There should be subsidies and incentives for family homes. small business and small scale rental properties to cut the oppressive energy cost burden for the average person. There would also be the benefit of job growth, especially blue-collar, and esp. inner-city. There should be subsidies and incentives to build family homes, in fact all new construction, incorporating concepts of passive solar design. The current methods of homebuilding are extremely wasteful. Cities should be planned with the intent of increasing pedestrian and bicycle use. This would also help with our obesity and other health problems. We will save money on health costs in this country when we start managing health instead of managing disease. Ethanol production in large amounts depends on large amounts of petroleum based pesticides, petroleum based fertilizer, and will amount to giant bio-engineered mono-cultures. Hello. It's basically more welfare for big corporations. We need to incentivize organic farming, bio-diversity, and tree-planting. Offshore drilling shouldn't be done in quake and tsunami prone areas. If they're going to drill in the Gulf, they should develop hurricane , and spill resistant platforms that could also be aqua culture development stations, fishery stations, desalinization stations, and solar and wind as well as wave generated electrical stations. Every large building and parking lot in the country should be covered with trees and plants. The rebuilding of New Orleans could be the equivalent of the 1960's man on the moon project, where the nation's scientific community could be enlisted to build the first true city of the 21st century. The lessons learned could be applied to rebuilding the eroding infrastructure of all American cities, esp. those that will be most greatly impacted by global warming."

(side note) From what i've heard ethanol signifcantly degrades an engine. They've started "experimenting" by putting it like 15-25% in gas in various places such as DC, Virginia beach and in missouri. (these are the places that i know of)

This guy whos really big into agriculture, robotics, and like mechanical engines and such wants me to get him some ethanol fuel so he can do some personal research on it.

hydrogen > ethanol

true hydrogen combustion engines still need more development before seeing mass production..not to mention we need more hydrogen stations (i think there are 3 in the entire world..though there aren't many places you can buy ethanol)

the real problem is our government and their friend big business. we need to finally shed that bullshit and get to it. no more just doing what is green (money green..not economically friendly green), and do whats best for the world and the people living in it. sure i don't want to give up gas guzzling sports cars before i even get a chance to own one...but they keep talking all this shit about greenhouse gases, climate control, pollution, dependency on foreign oil, etc...but what do they really do about it?

i forget what country it is over in europe..northern europe i believe..but they offer people good incentives (ie tax breaks, etc.) if they drive hybrid cars..and guess what? most of the population drives hybrid cars. here in the us, they don't give you shit for making the switch, and most people won't do it because they see it as an inconvenience. if there was some material benefit people would receive..they'd go for it..at least some of them would.

Thats completely untrue. I'm not going to quote the federal government but at least many many states have incentives for hybrids. I would imagine the federal government does too because the DC area has it. Things like HOV lane access and tax breaks.

Also global warming is one of the most unsure things of ever. They attempt to make you think (via commerical, and sensationalism) that the majority of (what human kind might be doing) is related to cars. Which is total B.S. (As i've seen, and researched) They say almost any influence from man kind is a result of power plants. They say that power consumption is the #1 greenhouse gas polluter.

I'm not defending big companies either, but even though people always go "oh politics is swayed by big companies" don't forget big companies also employ big amounts of people (wanted to bank on the word Big give me a break ) Don't forget democratic, free trade like countries revolve around capitalism. You hurt large companies which bring ungodly amount of revenue into the country, you hurt large portions of the country.

Whats just so intense about this entire interwoven problem is just how (to me anyways) it is just seemingly impossible it is to solve this "problem" or similar problems related to all this without significantly harming various areas of the country/world/economies and so on and so on.

One of the reason why i'm starting to think apathy is the best policy. haha I get too tired of thinking of this kind of stuff, especially since i'm just me and i'm ridiculous insignifcant in the scheme of things. (hell everything)

ahh..well that is news to me. i was thinking there might be something here..but i wasn't sure so i figured there wasn't. maybe they need to make the benefits better, or more widely known of (as i am just finding out from you that there are definitely incentives).

it just strikes me as odd that one country would have such a huge response to them, while our country seems largely uninterested. i know i see hybrids and some ethanol vehicles out there on the road..and maybe just the fact that we have so many more people here than in whatever country that was (i'll try and find out which one it was when i get home.) so it seems like less people are actually making a step in that direction. either way..whatever they are doing here seems like its either a drop in an ocean, or falling on deaf ears.

i know big business makes big money and offers lots of jobs..but something has to change eventually..whether we do it now, or later when the shit is really hitting the fan. some of these companies are gonna have to lose their say in these matters one of these days. sadly, it could take just short of a crisis to make the people in washington get things going.

heh just on the side..when my dad was eastern air wing commander, he had some driver and before my dad was there, the car they used was some chrysler concorde (big, kinda heavy, not very efficient engine) and my dad complained and got it switched to a civic hybrid.

as for global warming...yea i know its a much debated topic..but i'm just saying, they throw it around like its one of the most important things of our time. so why don't they bust their ass and get in gear instead of talking all kinds of shit?

haha i hate politics.

See i can definately agree that they're lacking in putting out word or creating MORE incentive to buy hybrid. Although its definately becoming "the thing" to be "econ friendly." Its in style now haha.

And definately there should be beginning of change starting in businesses and econ and all that good stuff. Better milder long term changes than oh shit we will now cut you off. Everybody is so.... impatient with things, when complicated issues can't be solved over night. *cough * *cough* iraq, global warming, globalization issues, and so on and so on.

Nice post POT, fuck putting more control of our energy/lives into the corporations, we've already seen what they do. They should start designing solar roofing that is cheaper and can be mass produced to replace current homes and future homes. A lot of the energy corporations buy out all the solar cell producers, thats why solar panel pricing hasn't gone down much at all in the last couple decades.
