it DOES matter how many albums you sell, despite what you say. here is my reasoning.

first off, pop music sales and metal music sales are different in a sense. dont always use the "if britney spears........"
plus, BS doesnt write her own music, so dont use her as an example......

ok, im pretty sure Obituary has the highest record sales of any pure death metal band. the album "the end complete" as of 1998, sold 250,000-300,000 copies worldwide. well, only people that like metal music would like Obituary. and judging by the sales, that would make it seem like Obituary is the most preffered pure death metal band. does that make them the best? your opinion may say no, but the majority says yes.

now, type o and SOTB are both goth bands. people who like goth music like type o, typeo sells better that SOTB, thus making type o a better band by majority, maybe not by your opinion though............

maybe not many people know SOTB as many know Type O Negative ... because Type O Negative is more COMMERCIAL ! and being commercial and having more record sales doesn't make you better.

Then let's compare Cradle of Filth and Mystic Circle ... of course CoF have a lot more sales than Mystic Circle ... does it make them better because they sell more records? imo ... NO ... or lets say Cannibal Corpse ... they sell more records than Vader ... are they better ...not to me ... well that's just my opinion ...

i dont reckon any band is better than another because of the amount of albums they sell, just different bands appeal to different people in different ways....Cannibal Corpse appeal to more people than Vader. thats how i see it i cant really decide who i prefer between CC and vader though probably CC cause i have more of their stuff

look, you are missing what im trying to say. it is your opinion that SOTB is better but, the majority of people who like goth music like type o better. type o is more commercial? thats just a stereotypical answer to too many band questions. they are both goth metal, type o sells more, so they are considered better by majority. people immdiately associate good music as just being "commerical". i hate when people use that. its all goth music, but type o sells more.

Type O Negative is more known than any other goth band I think ... publicity ... well I've seen some cunts at my school that listen Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit,Papa Roach and that shit ..and hey! .. they know Type O Negative too ... but do they know ... Crematory ? ... SOTB ? ... NO !!! ... then what does it means ? ... is Type O Negative commercial ? .. you answer it ...

I'll throw my two cents into this. The only band that you guys have mentioned that I've ever heard was Type O Negative. The album October Rust is really cool, when I'm in the mood for it. I don't like the other things I've heard by them very much though...

And why are you guys all arguing about band popularity?

goth music may not be that popular, but type o happens to be a rare occurance of a very popular goth band.........
