I used to be hugely into melo death but over time I've brushed it aside. Still love AA to death tho, and Arsis too although they incorporate too much other influences to be considered mdm. Tech and brutal DM with melody like Psycroptic is where its at.
Dismember, Entombed, and all the other old Swedish bands don't count, AtG do though(I don't like them, nor an of their clone bands).

Kalmah and Insomnium are my big ones for melo death. I can listen to all their albums all the way through and never want to skip a track. That's money well spent.

I used to be huge on the melodic stuff, but it hasnt really piqued my interest as of late. I love Heartwork-era Carcass, and Dismember's "Like an Everflowing Stream" (is that melodeath?), but other than that, I find myself listening to alot of other stuff, whether it be brutal death, 80s thrash, or even black metal. God, I remember I used to love it though, especially Soilwork, and especially "The Chainheart Machine". That album was aces

When the genre first got started back in the mid-90's, it was a really good idea. Combining Iron Maiden-esque melodies that were tuned down a bunch, mixed with harsh vocals is a great combo. The problem is that when 3,440,990,979,551,234 bands agree with my previous statement, it got overly stagnated and it is getting really, really stale now.

yes slaughter of the soul is very melodic ( one of the best death metal albu in the history) but IMHO not so "sweet" for melodic death metal.
And it is only 1 album.

Yeah..you're a fool, even their older shit was as well. And minus the first two/three albums, Death is melodic Death metal.

Nothing in the melo-death realm has grabbed my attention lately other than Wintersun which was one of my favorite albums of 2004.

Pretty decent stuff, but I consider em more folk/black than melodic death
