Hey. You other guys did a GREAT job explaining 9th chords, but I think you should check out the song "Floods" by Pantera. While these chords are ADD9, they are still a good example of left hand finger positions...

Another note -- I'm not sure if anyone said this yet, but,

THIS is a "C9" chord:

THIS is a "C_add9" chord:

And SO IS THIS:

|---x---| <WOULD be a 7th, but it's MUFFLED!! DON'T PLAY IT!!

|---3---| <Route
|--------|

You NEEED a 7th and a 9th in order to create a NINTH chord

Without a 7th, but still WITH a 9th, a chord becomes ADD 9...
