Quest for perfection on that metronome

My friend asked me today:

"Ive been playing for about a year, with no metronome, and I finally bought one, how long does it take to master timing?"

I didnt know how to answer him because I just eventually got it. He is the kind of person who would sit there for hours on end practicing timing if necessary, unlike me who spends maybe 20-30 minutes a day with it.

I told him maybe a month or two, am I wrong or do you think if he did an hour each day he could make it into some good timing (PS: Hes looking for metal beats, so he will range between 120-160 bpm)

Dude, 5 minutes or an hour can be very effective. Every second is valuable.

Everyone learns at different speeds. Just tell him to practice as much as possible, he will definitly see results.

Hes completly lost as usual (I made him pass in math lol), so if he took 20 minutes a day for a whole month, each day practicing on a metronome at maybe 90 bpm, you think he'd be better? I suggested 90 bpm to start off cause thats what I started on with, but as you said, people learn different.

(Btw im not trying to be slow at posting, Im gonna tab the entire Painkiller album for drums, but first I gotta deal with the hardest semester ever: Calc, Chem, and physics )
