Meh, also the drummer of Vornagar. There's a video of the drumrecording for Hyperion on their myspace if you scroll down (http://www.myspace.com/vornagar), for those of you who haven't seen it yet. Don't forget to stop the regular player though. Great drummer, great kit, great song too.

Well, honestly, you can't because drumming involves a variety of different styles, and it is impossible to label one drummer as the best. "The best drummer" is really an expression for who do you like the best.

I think it goes without saying that in order to have a good technical/brutal death metal band, you have to have a great drummer. So all those deathheads behind the kit, while very highly skilled, seem kinda interchangeable to me. Nile for example, did their style really change THAT much after Laureano left and Kollias stepped in?

Richard Christy was in Death, Control Denied and Iced Earth.
Sean Reinert was in Death's album Human and Cynic. Think he teaches Jazz drumming at Florida university or something but he is awesome at brutal metal with a jazzy touch as well.
Gene Hoglan was in Dark Angel, Death, Strapping Young Lad.

Get these albums-

Death: Human, The Sound of Perservernce, Symbolic, Individual Thought Patterns

Cynic: Focus

Dimmu Borgir: Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia

Judas priest (Painkiller, on) - Yes Scott Travis is my favorite. Not only does he know everything, but he can do stuff most people cant. Of course he can't rifle through shit like some bass drummers today, but what he makes, fits perfectly.

Death - Self Explanitory

Gene Hoglan, Nicholas Barker, John Longstreth, (The guy who played before Longstreth)..Kevin Talley has some interesting work at times as well. Let's not forget the new Cattle Decap drummer either, ..not to say he's the best but his new work is great.

Those are the only three I recognized.

Joey- Is decent, can be creative but most of the time isn't, and sucks at blasting. Here "Three Nil" live and you'll know what I"m talking about. Same with "Disasterpiece."

Nick Barker- I think he's a really great drummer. The best out of all three of those.

Paul- I think he's good, but not creative, and I've never heard him do any double bass faster than maybe around the 190-200 bpm range. He sounds good live, and keeps a solid tempo.

Inferno i'm pretty fond of, tight drummer and plays up to speed live.
Adrian is great, his blasts although not really emphasised in CoF now, are still really good. His overall playing is consistent and I can't complain for his work with ATG.
Nick Barker blasts too fast, despite the use of triggers, he's ridiculous. I like his work a lot though, be it Old Mans Child, Dimmu, whatever, his ride patterns and such always add an atmosphere to the music.
Paul..I just have to say hammer blasts are ridiculous.
As for what i've heard, Daniel is also really good. I can't deny that on albums but I haven't seen Arch Enemy live.

My fav is Mike Portnoy of DT, and Nic Barker. They have a very good style and they do not just drum in 4/4, 3/4 or 6/8.

My opinion about Joey Jordidon?
I would have liked him better in a better band. He is a good drummer, but Slipknot just does not do anything to me.
Nick Barker is good!!

Tell you who I don't think has had a mention in this so far and certainly deserves one: Igor Cavalera. Massively talented drummer, and very rarely mentioned among the greats, but should be.

Frost from Satyricon is a good drummer, and he's in 1349 aswell.

i think the dude from Meshuggah is the best. because his feet play in a different time signature to his hands. that's gotta take skill!

Hahaha, then do yourself a favor and type in "Akira Jimbo" on youtube.

That Warface drummer is great.
He has another video too, where he does a cool gravity blast at the end of the song.
People like him make it all look so damn easy...

Always liked this video (don't know if it's posted before) :

Decrepit Birth - Of Genocide

This video has such a cool groove!

Although I play bass and guitar, my favorites would probably be:
Peter Wildoer (Darkane)
Nick Barker (ex-Dimmu Borgir, ex-Cradle of Filth, and a million others.)
Hellhammer (Every black metal band to exist... )
Martin Lopez (Opeth)
