A few thoughts, playing bass and a sticker with all the notes??

I'm away at school, in the middle of no where, wishing I brought my guitar (i'm going to get it this weekend though) and I had a few thoughts on how to improve your playing. Playing bass and if there is even such a thing a sticker that you could put on the back of the neck to memorize all the note???????

what do you think?

I Think you should practice before you bring it to school, so people dont have to hear a bassist that doesnt know the notes

haha

But how is a sticker on the back of the neck gonna help you? You cant really see the back of the neck while your playing can you?
If you took one day and spent time to memorize them, you'll probably have more luck.

ehh.. try it note for note.

spend a day finding out all the notes that are C, and trying to find those as fast as possible. Then roll some dice or something else random for different C's and find that note as fast as possible. Do this until you can find out any C relativly fast. Then do this with a different note, and when you have that one down, mix it with the previous note. Then a third note, etc.

Even if you don't get 100% accuracy, it should help you improve to the point of at least finding any note somewhere.

I don't even have a bass. It was just an idea, since the string and frets are so big, going back to the playing the guitar it would seem smaller.

I was originally thinking about putting stickers on the frets, but they would obviously rip apart in no time. Even though there on the back, you could still reference them or inadvertainly see it..........

Yeah, I'll probably spend some time memorizing the notes. I know a bit from playing scales and such. Does guitar zone sell a poster of the notes??

You don't even need a poster dude. Somewhere out there on the 'net there's a page that has a diagram of the neck with all the notes labeled on it - just print that out.
Learn your scales and their modes too - that's what helped me memorize the notes on the neck in terms of whole steps/half steps, etc.

Modes are derived from scales, most modes as guitar players know them are derived from everyone's favorite, the major scale [yuk.]

This little article should help:

Thanks. It was from a guitar teacher I once met though.

O well, if it'll help me learn the notes. I've been playing for awhile and I still consider my self a noob anyway..........

I google imaged notes and found a print out of the fretboard. It actually follow a simple pattern. a-g starting on the open note of each string. I'm just going to stick this print out where I have to see it all the time...
