Sensationalism my good friend. Quoting someone as being a Whitney Houston fan doesn’t induce the same blood curdling fear in the public as a band with extreme image, name or loud aggressive music. People look for an answer, rather than look on their on door step it makes it more palatable to scapegoat a style or genre of music. Just by naming a metal band you've almost exonerated the individual of any culpability in the crime Yeah right!
As for military fatigues....James Huberty wore military fatigues when he rampaged through McDonalds in 1984 as did Michael Ryan in 1987 when he laid waste to Hungerford, so did Denis Lorte at the Quebec Citadel in 1984 and I don't recall any of them being Cannibal Corpse fans?

These people tend to be narcissistic individuals who fail to see they are to blame for the gap between their ambitious expectations and actual achievements and or failings. More pressure is placed on the individual to be a success these days, a situation exacerbated if he is a citizen of one of the world's most powerful nations as these tend to propagate the notion of ease of social advancement. They'll be left with feelings of failure and powerlessness when they realise there is no realistic chance of success. With school this could be alienation, social exclusion, failure to obtain grades, exams etc. With work it could be being over looked for promotion, redundancy or sacking. They can't possibly lay the blame at their own feet so some other system, society or institution is to blame. Some feel persecuted and eventually they snap with all this simmering anger. They then target the place they see as the root of all their troubles; college, work, society or a race or gender of people(Marc Lepine targeted female engineering students in Montreal in 1989) Next they get tooled up and make the headlines, now the world will not forget my name.......


My thoughts are with those caught up in yesterday’s incident.

Yeah, it is a shame that some are so out of reality that they do stupid stuff to other people. And some are so out of reality they believe what's reported. Whether it's guns or whatever, if someone wants to kill people they'll find a way to do it.

I don't think we don't hear of things because they don't happen. I think it's because it's surpressed in the respective countries unlike the US that everyone's waiting for something to happen in.

Recently I saw on the news about a girl who was kidnapped and hidden for about 8 years in Austria. Apparently that's been a case in the works for that long, but we're just hearing about it now since she escaped.

They mentioned how he was dressed because they like to include those kinds of details in crime stories. If he was wearing a Seville Row double-breasted herringbone suit and had whatever's considered a fine, fashionable male haricut, we'd have heard about it too. And, oddly enough, high powered businessmen would not be whining on the internet about how this will make them all look like criminals (possibly because they are already all painted with the criminal fuckhead brush). Part of what journalists do is to report on all of this shit; it's actually their jobs (kinda) to give us all these inane details. On the other hand, us giving a shit is strictly on a volunteer basis.

Anyway, sucks for the people involved. If Canadians in general really need condolences, I'll be surprised; I'm in Canada and this is the first I've heard. I've heard more about the Toronto Film Festival than this.

thats all it is, school shootings happen, have happened for decades......everywhere. columbine happened at a low for that year in actual school shootings, it was just newsworthy to not only harp on one of the deadliest attacks<not the most,mind you of a single attack or number of shootings nationwide OR deaths that are a result of attacks> but pretend the fucking world is crumbling. i wonder why this is getting such press.......maybe because it didnt happen in the US.

dont get me wrong, it sucks. but like those LA/san diego suicide car chases and shootouts on the expressways<10 years ago, OJ simpson being a highpoint> the news knows they are galvanizing the problem by advertising ways to get on the evening news,kill yourself and in the process of killing people who were gonna kill anyway. they shouldnt pay this event much media attention.....its not as if school shootings stopped in the US.

news goes in cycles of convenience. soon shark attacks will be back in few years even tho the year in question most likely wont be statisticallty the highest of occurances or the most murderous.
