my opinions
i tryed playing unanything's 7 but its a lefty
and i am a righty so i couldnt play it.
at the moment i prefere 6 strings but if i ever buy a 7 my opinion may change

a related question: those of you who have a 7-string for playing in B instead of a 6 tuned down to B, do you tune the G string down to F#, or do you just shift your fretting on that string by one fret? i would think tune the string down, but just curious.

I never change the tuning. You get used to shifting your finger down a fret after a while anyway. It usually makes things easier since it is a fret down instead of a fret up.

RIght now i only have one guitar and it is a 7 string. I think it makes you better when you play a 6 string and it sorta forces you to know your way around the fretboard more. 6 strings are more comfortable to play, I'll say that much.

i play 6 strings,
i owned a 7 string, and its not bad, but since most songs i play are al written on 6 strings i have no need for that extra B.
i might build a 7 in the future though

i was thinking on getting a 7 string because great death metal bands are tuned to B or Bb and I dont want to tune a 6 string two and a half or three steps down
