Not really. I wouldnt complain if that even was the case.
There is a greater amount of technique become involved in the newer death metal bands as a whole, granted. But is that really such an unexpected development?
And theres always stuff coming out that is more groove orientated, alot of it by people who think exactly the same as you Transient; that its all going too tech. So its nothing to worry about. Chances are if you think something, then theres others out there that think the same.
Either way, I wouldnt moan, as long as it continues to be interesting.
Ironically, OP check out Deadborn.
pretty dull and predictable but different strokes... etc.
Unmerciful, too. And Origin. Brain Drill. DEFINITELY Later Malignancy (Cross Species / 2005 Promo)

Nile and Cannibal Corpse. But I've only heard of a little Nile, but from what I've heard I'd say they really know how to play.

Bloodbath is an excellent example of a new death metal band that is not techincal at all really, but kick just as much ass.

first off im not complaining! but the majority of new death metal bands are striving for technical. and just about all of them have succeeded. old simple death metal (death - spiritual healing, gorguts - considered dead, immolation - dawn of possession) is totally a thing of the past. nobody sounds like that more, everyone is going for more riffs, more time changes, etc
i could list bands but i think you understand what i mean, its a sea change really. defintely to be expected, im just saying, if you want technical bands look for the newer ones

What do you guys think of VILE? I am not really sure if they are technical or not seeing as i just got "the new age of chaos" yesterday and only listened to it while driving, so I wasn't able to remember much. Brutal death metal is always a blur on the first listen for me anyway.

Cool. I have heard a few people rag on the production but the only thing i think needed tweaking was the amount of gain on the guitars, they sound kinda muddy. It sounds like he was using his neck pickup exclusivley.
